    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Ok....So I am noticing more and more in the classifieds people seem to think its ok to pretty much bully a seller on their prices or the animal they have for sale

First off to lowball an offer to a seller can be insulting in the first place, but when that offer is declined, its just flat out RUDE to keep pushing the issue

Either increase your offer, or move on. Half of the asking price is NOT a good offer....I mean really...no one cares how much you paid for the same morph from someone else...no one cares what your opinion on the quality of the animal is or how much it looks like you expect it to...these are signs that its time for you to moooove on

Continuing to badger a seller for more pics, more info, better price, basically trying to call the seller out on anything and everything simply because your to immature to deal with REJECTION!!!

Calm the heck down people. Sellers have the right to put whatever price they wish on their animals...do you really think that trying to push and push and push and push and push (pulls out the pink bunny with the drums) is really going to get you anywhere?

Sorry for the mini rant...but when I first wake up in the morning it really irks me to log on and see people feeling high and mighty about themselves and think they have the right to pretty much be rude and disrespectful to their fellow man because they cant handle being told NO

I can only imagine the temper tantrums these people had as kids if their parents didn't buy them that shiny new toy they wanted.
 
I understand where you are coming from, but they do make a lock function on the thread to block public opinions.

oh I know...but if a seller chooses not to lock their ad, that shouldn't be grounds for others to just go nuts

and for locked ad's, the same issues are just going on in private

would be nice to see people act like adults and just accept that they got declined and move on

might be to much to ask from some I guess :D
 
Absolutely. IMO, I don't think any replies should be allowed in a "classified ad," especially since most can't reply to their own ads. There are a few loop holes that are exploited in that section, but then again, I don't know all the details...

Yes, that was proposed long ago. There are people that don't even read the ads, they are simply not interested in buying, just in degrading the seller.

It was done long ago as well. The problem is when replies are allowed half the membership complains that they shouldn't be and when replies are not allowed the other half complains about not being able to reply.

Replies may be blocked again in the future if the conditions require it, but as for now it seems easier to just allow replies and let the sellers lock their ads if they so choose.
Aside from that, I'd suggest you utilize the report post function when you see something that appears to be abuse.
We try to curb that sort of thing all we can, but the classifieds are a very busy place and we can't see it all. All reported posts are seen and evaluated though. Taking a moment to report something will help us address a problem in many cases quite a while before we would have came across it ourselves.

my rant is more for the fact that people cant be adult enough on their own to keep us from having to use that report button. It's just sad

Unfortunately, that can be a problem. Speaking strictly for myself, I HATE people posting in my ads...I don't care if it is a smartass comment, good natured ribbing, a compliment, or a legitimate question. And trying to negotiate on a public forum??? Not going to happen with me. I clearly state in my ads, in large blue letters, that questions and comments should be via PM or direct email (which I provide). For those people that cannot comprehend that, it's pretty iffy whether they'll get a response from me. Generally, I ignore posted inquiries in my ads. In the case of legitimate information questions - if I have overlooked something, and it is pointed out - I will amend my ad to include the information.
Left to my own devices, I would lock every ad I place, so I wouldn't have to deal with the people that feel the need to post in them....but my experience has shown that doing so significantly reduces the response to the ads (even from people that DO email or PM). That leaves me having to frequently delete my ads and create new ones, just to get rid of the offending posts.
 
To touch on the original issue, I am familiar with one of the people Willow is referring to; she criticized the animal and the price, flat out stated that she wasn't going to purchase the animal at the advertised price, but continued to hound the seller for more pictures...all after her repeated offers were politely declined by the seller.
Odd that people think this is acceptable...and even stranger to think that some people are desperate enough for a sale to tolerate it. I suspect that a number of people see, and decide otherwise though. It isn't just buyers that can be selective, after all; and it is just as easy for a breeder to decide not to sell to somebody.
 
all though sellers have the right to post at a certian price it is not wrong for someone to offer a lower price, it is how ever wrong to harass a seller.
 
Trust me Craig, I have had my shared moments of trying to get a better deal out of people....but never in my right mind would I feel that once I was declined it was acceptable of me to continue to blatantly badger someone simply because they aren't out to make me happy.

Some people just like to portray how spoiled they are...if they cant have what they want, when they want it, and for the price they demand...oooh how the world should suffer =)

If the sites wants more traffic through the ads something needs to be done about this. The information gained by leaving ads open to replies is useful to a certain point but disruptive posts such as those exemplified are a deterrent for sellers and buyers alike. They have turned the ad section in a "mini" version of the BOI. If there is an absolute need to leave them open (I'm not sure why) maybe a steeper infraction system for this section could be helpful.
 
Posts in a classified ad that link to a seller's previous exploits are relevant IMO.
Everything else is at the OP's discretion I think. You can post whatever you want on my ads, you're just giving me a free bump and even possibly getting questions answered for other prospective buyers. I know if I felt someone was ruining my ad I would report it to Nick and he would pwnz them if they were indeed violating a rule. We have mods, but you gotta let the mods know when there's a problem.
