    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    **************************************************
    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Bullying a Seller

Do these people not understand how the pm system works?
So many problems in online forums could/would be solved if people just used PMs at the appropriate time. I don't believe I've ever publicly responded to a request for price negotiations in a thread, always a PM, always...that's why God made them private :)

Ok....So I am noticing more and more in the classifieds people seem to think its ok to pretty much bully a seller on their prices or the animal they have for sale

First off to lowball an offer to a seller can be insulting in the first place, but when that offer is declined, its just flat out RUDE to keep pushing the issue

Either increase your offer, or move on. Half of the asking price is NOT a good offer....I mean really...no one cares how much you paid for the same morph from someone else...no one cares what your opinion on the quality of the animal is or how much it looks like you expect it to...these are signs that its time for you to moooove on

Continuing to badger a seller for more pics, more info, better price, basically trying to call the seller out on anything and everything simply because your to immature to deal with REJECTION!!!

Calm the heck down people. Sellers have the right to put whatever price they wish on their animals...do you really think that trying to push and push and push and push and push (pulls out the pink bunny with the drums) is really going to get you anywhere?

Sorry for the mini rant...but when I first wake up in the morning it really irks me to log on and see people feeling high and mighty about themselves and think they have the right to pretty much be rude and disrespectful to their fellow man because they cant handle being told NO

I can only imagine the temper tantrums these people had as kids if their parents didn't buy them that shiny new toy they wanted.

:iagree: Well said Willow

I agree with everyone here , so many times have i received an offer that might seem reasonable to the person doing it , seems offensive to me .The boi thread that inspired this is a joke just being spiteful because the said person could not get a sweet deal.

I'm just curious as to why you feel this way.

just a personal preference, because locked ads give me the impression the person may have something to hide. Also some of the questions asked are very pertinent (what is it feeding on, trades?, etc) and can give added info for other interested parties that might sway them one way or the other.

I also skip over those classifieds ads that are one or two lines long with no name and a ph#. I prefer at least one photo (or link), some background info (even if it is "I just got these in a trade..") and a name. Just my preference.
:eek:

I tend to skip over several of them. First reason being, most are from big breeders who I prefer to stay away from for personal reasons. Second, it appears (but may not be the case at all) that they have something to hide. i.e. someone will post "that's not a real super pastel" or "that's my buddies snake that was stolen" or a link to a bad BOI thread. All stuff that may or may not be true, but it's enough for me to turn the other way. I guess this point is moot anyway since threads can just be deleted and recreated.

I'm new to herps and try to not lowball sellers. I know my local petstore prices and other prices I see on this forum. I have offered trades and I dont know if you can lowball with trades, but I try to respect the seller while trying to understand why their prices are what they are so I can learn what reasonable prices are.

That being said if I ever offend anyone I hope they let me know and are willing to tell me what offended them about my offer so I dont do it to another seller later on. =)

Personally, I don't find lowballs offensive the first time around. I have the right to ask a price, and unless it says firm, someone is allowed to make an offer. Granted, sometimes I think lowballs are funny, but not to the degree in which I am gonna get upset about it.

Pestering, insulting, relentless lowball offers and negative comments are what gets me. If you don't like it, don't leave comments like this... move on, lol:

im interested, but price is a lil high for a ****** by far

If the ad says, PM for negotiations, why make a comment like this??

I don't necessarily find lowball offers offensive....but they do end the conversation quickly. They are NOT a starting point - they are an absolute endpoint, no further discussion involved.
