    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Ok so the little one came all the way out of the egg today around noon or so!

A few questions though, as there are some things worrying me!

1. Is he supposed to be this small? I've never had or seen a new baby!

2. What about the big yoke sac he left behind? I thought they stayed in the egg to adsorb it all before coming out!

3. How many days before I offer him/her food, since his belly is flat and empty?

He really worried me there most of the day because he would not crawl just move his head and neck some, but he finally figured out how to use the rest of his/her body lol after a few trys..

However on a really good note, he is now moving all around the tank, went to the water dish and drank ALOT, and went in the hide a few times, and is now laying in the water bowl..

So anyway he looks like a normal to me, but what is up with the purplish look he has going on?? :shrug01: Is that common?

Oh and his in a 10gal tank right beside of me, on a heating pad, dry paper towels and a nice WET hide that he seems to like!
Please let me know if I need to change anything!

he does look small and there is alot of yolk left in there, I have had hatchlings as small as 30 grams survive just fine but on those few instances where I have had small hatchlings like that, it didn't come easy. Can you get a wieght on him? Can he hold his head up and is his tongue flicking alright?
 
Forgot to ad that it will shed within the next week or so, I would not try feeding him untill after that so as not to stress it out.
 
She was pretty large, laid 5 eggs and already had the eggs in her when I bought her.

I'm gonna weigh him right now Bob!

And I was asking about food because as you can see alot of the yoke did NOT go into his belly so thought maybe he might get hungry sooner than most??? I don't know much about any of this!

Oh and YES he holds his head up just fine I was watching him drink! Humm don't think I have seen his tongue yet..

i totally agree with bob on this one...amanda some hatchling do survive in some cases...you baby i would say has a 50/50 chance to survival.usually healthy babies come out with therye eggs completely clean on the inside.just have faith and keep us posted.
 
27 grams is pretty small and as Brian said it's 50/50, the main thing is that it don't get stressed, it will not thrive if it is stressed.... If it were me, and I had that small of a hatchling, I would put him in a small shoebox tub with paper towel as substrate, keep it damp, give him a hide and try not to handle him much, wait till he sheds before offering food, I personally think a 10 gallon aquarium is way too big and all that openess may stress him out. Just my opinon though. Keep us posted.
 
Ok no problem I have something alot smaller, I'll get him into it... As for handling him I have not picked him up or held him at all other than to weigh him just now and to take from the inc, and place him in the tank!

So the bedding or paper towels needs to stay wet or damp??

I use paper towels, dampened, for all of my hatchlings here untill they shed, his color really don't look out of the ordinary to me, its color will change after it sheds a few times regardless.
 
thats not to bad of a weight i have had babys at 20 grams thrive once you get them to eat. i bought my yellowbelly het ghost female at 25 grams and she is well over 2400grams now and she is only three years old. they are pretty hardy just get them eating and you will be fine.
 
He is moving better and faster tonight, he IS using his tongue well and stretching his head to the top alot so he seems to be getting more energy!

Thanks Craig, I'm hoping the best for the little thing.

It's belly is soooo empty and flat though, I wish it would have sucked up all that yoke! or wish I could feed him sooner!
 
If it were me with a baby that small that didn't absorb the yolk like it should have, I would offer it a pinky or fuzzy mouse at the very least--something that can't hurt it,a nd don't leave it in too long, but just try it and see if he's hungry. For normal babies I would definitely wait until after the first shed, but with one that doesn't seem to be full of yolk--I'd try something! ;)

I don't want to step on anybodies toes but definitely don't offer it food until he sheds. He should shed soon. With your typical 80 gram baby you have a month or so when they've absorbed all or most of their yolk before they get to where it's a real problem. I'd say with this guy if he doesn't eat soon after his first shed it may be a sign he wont make it, but I'd say at his size you can't afford to stress him out before shedding. They pretty much come out of the egg in a pre-shed cycle.
 
It should make it for you but it will be tough getting it to thrive.

Tough getting her to eat regularly and it was hard starting her. I needed day old live pinks which was not easy to locate.
