    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.
  • Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Steps To Become Fedex Certified!!!

I am just waiting to get a copy signed by a Fed Ex person back. This is what happened last time in 2004 I sent a copy off signed and was told I was good to go. Fast forward to 2010 and they have no record of me being approved or even ever doing the pkg test so i had to do everything all over...I knew more about what needed to be done than the reps did.

Sandy & Scott, I received an email from my account rep today and would be more then happy to fwd your name and account number to her to see if she can get everything expedited. Just send me a PM with your account number and I'll shoot it over to her.

Yes, please!! I'm sending you a PM with my info right now.

Have you contacted the legal department (1-901-434-8494)?

I just called this number and spoke with someone there. She said that the person in charge of reptiles is on vacation right now (Misty...something..I didn't catch the last name). Maybe that's why it's taking so long to get things done. Her boss's name is Rusty Phillips and the number given goes to his office. He was on lunch so I left a message and I'm hoping to hear from him soon.

Thanks again for the number and help!

I'm in exactly the same position you are--again! However, this time I have an e-mail from Clint Gowen telling me that he received word that I AM entered in the computer system as an approved shipper, and I can go ahead and ship--so, I'm going ahead and shipping. No problems so far.
I sent another e-mail asking when I would get the hard copy last week. No word back yet. Maybe everyone is on vacation?

Stephanie, I will keep that offer in mind but I am going to wait just a little longer since I am am in no hurry to ship right now but I am not going to let them forget me.

I may even try the new service to see how that works out.

i have been trying for over 2 weeks now to just get the name of my rep, finally today i was able to get through and talk to someone who knew what they/I was talking about, now i just have to pack up the box and ship

Got my waiver via email today! Just have to sign it and get it back to them! Thanks so much, Stephanie!

Q: Was everyone aware that the shipping cost estimator does not include any discounts you may receive with FedEx? You have to calculate it yourself! I negotiated new rates with my rep because of the $20 difference shipping to California compared to ReptilesEXPRESS. She gave me a PDF with my new rate discounts that says I have to calculate it myself as it won't be displayed online! How do I know if I'll be billed accurately if it's not displaying properly? It's not even just that I have to figure out math...It goes off of published rate per pound for Express?

EXAMPLE:
$2.00 published rate per pound x .20 discount (20% off) = $.40 discount per pound
$.40 discount per pound x 1,000 lb. shipment weight = $400 total discount
$2,000 published regular rate - $400total discount = $1,600 discount rate

That is just insane that I need to do three math problems just to figure out a quote for a customer!

Rate per pound (a) Weight (b) Discount (c).

(a*b)*c = discount. :D (* = multiply)

A simple calculator will do this.

They need to get with the decade. It should be automated. A multiple billion (trillion?) dollar company can't get their scripts to accept discounted rates?

Annoyance could have been averted...
The discounts are showing up in the rate quote...I have no idea why the PDF and my rep said I had to calculate it myself. :shrug01:

Has any one had any luck getting approved to send to residential? I know almost every large feeder company ships to residential. Surely as large of scale these business's are they wouldn't be breaking rules that would jeopardize their shipping provider. Also isn't the back of FedEx trucks climate controlled vs UPS?

Feeders are dead, they are not covered under the Live Harmless Reptiles waiver. The Live Harmless Reptiles waiver is what prohibits residential delivery. Some areas have the climate controlled Express vans, but not all.

Just called legal department there and I can honestly say i waste more time dialing the number than what I got info on. I was told even worms are not allowed to be shipped to residential. I don't understand. If they wont insure them to be there alive where does it matter where they are shipped to. I was granted to be able to use 2nd day air with FedEx but still no residential. I will be doing over 100K annual with them and they wont budge about residential. Yet every other large company gets the ok to ship doesn't really make since. Seems like selective selection. What do you mean about Feeders are dead, they are not covered under the Live Harmless Reptiles waiver.

This thread is about FedEx Reptile Certification, which feeders would not be covered under. I had assumed you were speaking of rodent feeders. My worms come in through USPS.

I ship reptiles to residential addresses through FedEx. They always add on a fee for residential delivery, but I have yet to have them refuse to. Us shipping certain reptiles who are CITES governed, it is an actual law for us to mark the boxes appropriately. If you are shipping worms, then simply marking the box "perishable" should be all that's required of you. Open a regular FedEx account, and not the reptile waiver type of account, and you should be good to go. Simply tell them when they ask what you'll be shipping, "various perishable goods". I can't see any problems arising from that. But it would still be on you to package correctly to ensure they don't die in the chance they don't hit a climate controlled truck.

My waiver specifically says I'm not permitted to ship residential (as does the official policy). Do you have an older waiver? I've noticed some of the older waivers do not have that stipulation in. Makes me wish I hadn't been lazy and done it before they started adding it.
