    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Texas Lizard Connection finally received a refund from Mike Roe for $1300 after six weeks of dealing with his excuses. In the last few weeks, he has come up with every excuse not to ship. Here is the contact info. that Scott (TLC) gave me:

I just got a refund from Mike Roe for a snake he either never had or had no intentions of selling. He was advertising a female albino ball python on kingsnake.com. He took money as a loan basically for a couple weeks, blew me off on shipping twice, would not answer or return about 20 phone calls. If the money did not show up the day it did, my partner was going to have his attorney start action against this con man. I was also contemplating a trip to his house to collect in person.


A word of advice though to Mike, do not ever come anywhere that I may be. I have a bad temper, hold grudges too long and you really really pissed me off you sack of crap!

Just as a heads up to anybody that has dealt with Mike Roe: he is back to swindling people, this time under the business name "Animal Island". I'm waiting to see if my money will ever reappear.

Where did you find the advertisement? What kind of animal did you try to purchase? When and how much did you send, what payment method did you use? What was the contact info(email) (Physical address)? Give all the details you can about this transaction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Money returned

A few days ago I posted a message in this thread stating that Mike Roe is back to stealing money from people. Since that time the Mike D. Roe to whom I had sent $350 for some small bearded dragons that were advertised on kingsnake.com has informed me that he is a different Mike D. Roe than the one discussed in this forum. In addition, he returned my money promptly. Below is the final (I hope) conciliatory e-mail that I sent to him.

Thanks for returning my money. I received the cashiers check on Wednesday, and the bank accepted it with no problems. If, as you claim, you are a completely different Mike D. Roe than the Mike D. Roe from Fort Dodge, IA that has stolen money from lots and lots of people by selling them reptiles and birds that don't get delivered, then my approach to getting a refund from you was rude. As I've stated before, I would be ecstatic if you could provide me some evidence that you are a different Mike D. Roe so that the pet trade community could have some way of differentiating you from that sorry piece of work over in Fort Dodge (or where ever he lives now). If I were that Mike D. Roe from Fort Dodge, I would feel like a wretched scab on society.

If I was wrong about your identity, please understand why I drew the conclusions I did:

1) I sent you a money order and did not hear anything from you for four days after you received it, and only after repeated attempts to contact you via e-mail (you never gave a phone number).

2) The day before you were going to ship, you e-mailed me with an excuse for not shipping that the other Mike D. Roe used on several occassions to lie to people: that a close relative was on his deathbed and you and your wife had to leave town immediately and would get in touch with me later. I also often get this excuse from students that miss class for a week, so it sounded kind of made up. I hope your wife's grandfather is improving, by the way.

3) You just happened to get home the day after you left town, in time to promptly respond to my e-mail in which I threatened to sue you (see, at the time I thought you were this other BAD Mike D. Roe).

4) Despite my best attempts to do so, I couldn't find any information about a Mike D. Roe in Urbandale, IA who is honest and been breeding herps for 25 years. I would have thought that after that amount of time, some other herp people would have posted positive information about you on the internet. All I could find was lots of information from people who had had negative experiences with a Mike Roe in Iowa. However, I can understand that some of us are just more private than others. However, I was surprised that you didn't take me up on my request for reputable references.

5) In response to my accusations that you were trying to steal my money, you chose to make irrational threats (twice) to contact the president of my university and my department head to tell them how rude I am. At the time, this struck me as an attempt to intimidate me rather than defuse the situation, as my superiors would have no interest whatsoever in my communications with you. This was a deal to get a refund for lizards that I felt I wasn't going to get, not pornography or drug dealing for crying out loud!

6) You failed to provide compelling evidence (or any evidence, for that matter) that you aren't that slimebag Mike D. Roe from Fort Dodge, despite my suggestion that you do so. I guess the fact that you live in Urbandale, IA, and the bad, dishonest Mike D. Roe lives/lived in Fort Dodge, IA, just wasn't enough to completely allay my suspicions that you aren't him.

So, thanks again for returning my money so promptly. If you are a different Mike D. Roe than the one that steals people's money (and I hope for your sake that you are), I'm sorry that I felt I had to threaten legal action against you in order to get a refund, as you no doubt would have sent it had I simply asked.

Whoa!

There are two Mike D. Roes in Iowa? Both of them share the same excuses? Both of them are rude? Neither of them have references worth using? Both of them like to use threats to try to make you look like the bad guy? Neither of them contact you after recieving payment? Hmmmm....... Looks like the safe thing to do would be to ignore them BOTH!

Look, you may have been a bit harsh on the guy but what did he expect after ignoring your emails after recieving payment? 4 DAYS??? The way I see it is this. If he doesn't want to be treated like the BAD Mike D. Roe, then he should STOP acting like the BAD Mike D. Roe! Plain and simple. 4 days later he contacts you with an excuse that has been used by a con artist. Instead of setting your mind at ease with a solid reference he threatens you? Sounds like they must be twins.

Just my opinion of course.

Do not listen to this BS it is the same guy he doesnt live in Fort Dodge anymore he lives about an hour from there now it is him no doubt in my mind and why is it all the searching I did for the Mike Roe we all know too well this othere guy never showed up and why didnt he just ship the animals you ordered? Hey Mike you are a real piece of work cant you just find a new Scam before you get you self hurt

Mike should hire a personal crossing guard because one of these days when he crosses the street somebody's foot is going to slip off the brake and onto the accellerator!
 
If Anyone has any new info on him PLease forward it to us or email it too us... He still Owes us Over $1400 and has made no effort to make good on it... Its for an NSF check (which is Illegal) and Im tired of having his name anywhere in my records...

About two months ago(Feb 7th), I saw an ad on King snake for 26 albino leopard gecko babies for $400. I contacted Mike Roe of Animal Island, we made a deal, and to make a long excuse filled story short, I have no Leos and no refund. I tend to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but after reading this (why I did not check about him prior to this transaction....) I am so upset that I got scammed! First, there was a death in the family and he had to go out of town, then when he got back he was to busy to ship even though I told him I could wait, then he emailed me saying he was so sorry for everything he was just going to refund my money, even after I told him no, I want the Leos, I can wait. He emails me to tell me he SENT the refund anyways. Now he keeps telling me my refund is in the mail....for the past 4 weeks!!!!!First, his wife put on the wrong extended zipcode and it was returned as undeliverable, then it was sent again, only to never turn up, now he is waiting on the money order to be canceled and said on Tuesday he'd be sending it out UPS, overnight. Still nothing.

I sent the money order to 3156 68th St Urbandale Iowa 50322 on Feb 9th. ANd of course, I can not find the money order receipt.
He does communicate with me well, but the excuses are piling up. Maybe this is a different Mike Roe? My luck lately with buying Leos, I doubt it but one can only hope. The email he is using is [email protected].

If this is a different Mike Roe of Animal Island I am sorry, prove me wrong and I will post a huge apology here and give you good guy reviews...but after reading all this threads' posts....I think it is the same guy. Can anyone help me?

Same guy

Sorry Shannan, its the same guy, he moved a few month ago since this thread started and I know 3 other people that are in hassles with him right now on their "refunds" or non shipment of reptiles.

Personally I really wonder that he has any of these he is selling or just kiting one business deal to pay off another one and it will eventually collapse, stay on him, some have got their money back by being persistent

you can contact detective Doug Utley at the fort dodge police department, 5155732323, hes the guy that helped me out on this deal, they have a huge file on him for selling fake computers as well, good luck, i know how hard it is, but i got 4 peoples money back including myself for over 10k,

thats cool , but i dont believe Mr. Roe even uses this place, or any others other than ks that im aware of, and ks banned me for complaining about this guy? but hey I am complaining! so you can use that if it helps?
 
I'll post a complaint on KS, but from what I have read in other threads they seem to harbor scammers and others you don't want to deal with. From here on out, I check here first for feedback on people.
Thankfully I at least saved all of our emails back and forth. and have the receipt from when I overnighted the money order showing the name and address, and an "invoice" email.
I'll also call the police detective. Hopefully everyone else who has gotten scammed by him will as well!

Unless you want to get the boot from KS as well, don't post a complaint on one of the forums or classified sections. That violates their TOS. Instead, go through theor normal complaint process.

At the top od any of the classified sections there is a link that is called Report Abuse. Click there and the rest of the procedure for filing a complaint is relatively self explanatory.

I went through their report fraud link. I also posted just about everywhere else I could think about that allows you to post things such as this. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will get my money back!
