    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.
  • Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

is usark over stepping its rights by proposing rules for states without asking us

he set up rules to offer up to ours states without even talking to us or running it by us

No. There is model legislation to use to mitigate calls for a ban and it will only be put forward to fight a proposed ban. You are fighting the one group that is actually trying to save your collection and your investment from being made worthless by the stroke of a pen.

Why is this so difficult for you to comprehend?

i really dont think you people realize the implications for breeders. how many breeders are posting on here. how many of you could be faced with having to micro chip hundreds of hatchlings

Again, I'll ask you which would be preferable. Adding $10-$25 to the overhead associated with a hatchling, or having your entire investment in equipment and breeding stock made WORTHLESS by a ban.

you have no clue what you are talking about first comes a few laws with micro chips and so on next comes the big snake and venomous ban next comes the no reptiles at all ban. thats where it will lead. someone that is legally keeping venomous after laws are in place will get bit and then they will say licensing isnt enough just make then illegal. as redneck as the nra is we still should be paying closer attention to how they are doing things. they wont stand for any ban.

its not like were not all on their emailing list they could have sent emails informing us with their plans and asked for our input

Any idea how long that would take and how arduous that would be? They don't have a huge staff of people.. and I don't think anyone gets paid for the job.

And who would collate and tabulate all that "input"? You fuss about the money in dues and donations...do you think that kind of tedious work comes for free?

But for S&G's, what would your input be? How would you go about countering a push for an outright ban?

Furthermore, if we are to police ourselves, which is what you are suggesting with your chant for no laws or regulations, how will we deal with those who simply won't abide by best practices? How will we deal with those media darlings who keep a retic or burm in a fish tank, have an escape and perhaps a dead toddler?

If responsible practice is codified at the state level, then the law deals with these people. That sounds like a plan.

first of all you will need to find a reptile vet that knows how to do it. then you got to drag all your babies to the vet. so $25 for the chip plus the fee for implanting it and now you have to wait and see how many it will kill

Well said. And there are advantage to uniform model legislation for multiple states. There are several active uniform codes including the Uniform Commercial Code so the concept is not new.

i doubt it would take much longer than it takes them to send all those emails asking for our money

I'm a firm 2nd Amendment supporter and I can tell that the NRA will get none of my money. They will compromise in a heartbeat because they realize that is how business is done in the civilized world. If you want no compromise gun rights activisim, Grass Roots or Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership should be the organizations you look to.

However, when it comes to keeping large constrictors, we are not discussing a constitutional right, now are we? No, we are not. We are discussing something that can and will be taken from us if we don't play our cards right. Stomping our feet and chanting "no laws, no laws" won't do it. We have to play within the system.

And I have to repeat here, though I'm sure I'm only wasting the wear and tear on my fingertips, but the compromise legislation WILL NOT be proposed if legislation for a ban can be stopped. That is a no-compromise victory. The compromise legislation is a fall-back position that is defensible.

That is just ridiculous IMO. Writing one email and forward it to a list of people is not too time consuming. Reading thousands of emails could take a lifetime.

Come on now...

if you think your constitutional rights cant be taken away your dreaming

You do have a reptile vet that you are acquainted with and that sees your animals, right? You shouldn't need to "find a vet". If you have a collection, including breeders, and have no vet, you've put the cart ahead of the horse.

You still have not put forth any information regarding chips killing babies, causing cancer, etc. Not all of us can see your page....please put the information here in the thread and make it a part of the discussion.

i dont care how long it takes them they decide to do this and they should take the time to find out what people that they represent want. what about all those letters and phone calls they told us to make to our representatives. what if we had all our letters sent back unopened and when we called in we got a recording saying they didnt have time to hear our opinion. how would you have felt about that. and your telling me that the people that are fighting for us dont have the time to talk to us

Not all of us...

Why are you not understanding that the alternative at the point when these recommendations might be enacted, is having NO hatchlings due to a ban?

the funny thing about this is if we would of all got and email from our state representative saying we went ahead and set up a set of guidelines for how you maybe your pets and we will go ahead and propose them if need be the whole industry would be up in arms today yet since it came from usark everyones ok with it. the only places usark should be proposing these kinda rulse is places like NY where there is a ban so people that are already keeping animals can get some kinda license instead of being considered criminals. thats the only time its ok to compromise when its for getting back you freedoms not for loosing them.
