    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

Sorry everyone, I'm a bit snap happy of these, my first Candoia babies.

They are just so TINY, feeding time is a bit difficult. Here they are on their second ever meal, gecko tail as I can't find geckos small enough.

For scale,I'm holding the gecko tails in chopsticks. And yes, the weight is in GRAMS, but this one is the runt. Most were 11 or 12 gms at birth.

I'm having SUCH a good time! :):)

Holy CRAP those are TINY!!! I can't let my wife see this thread or she's gonna want one. They're adorable!!! I'm sure you are "snap happy" these days!! :D

Very cool, Helen!

So how many tailless geckos are running around your house?

Thanks guys - I'm infatuated.... but nice to know others think they're special too.

Actually it's funny you should ask about tailless geckos - I did try that once, caught one of the monster geckos that run around my ceiling, held his tail until he dropped it and then let him run off - but somehow I felt more guilty doing that than just snapping a tail off a frozen gecko that will be fed to my larger snakes. I know, no logic, just a feeling....

When I run out of tails they will also take hind legs - it's kind of KFC Gecko Portion time around here! :D

Neat stuff Helen. Glad to see they ain't giving you too many problems getting started off too. Although, being able to offer them exactly what they'd find in nature might help a bit. LOL

Thanks for sharing!

Yes, I don't share the feeding problems other Candoia owners have trying to find tiny frogs etc - house geckos I do have!

Great job. I have a 3.2 group of Candoia carinata carinata I'd like to breed in the future, but they are tough and the babies might be smaller than even those... how long are they?

About 30cm (1 foot) at birth, typical birth weight 10 to 12 grams - so tiny I can't imagine smaller ones.
I didn't feed them for 3 weeks, they were fine. Then started them with gecko tails and they're now feeding weekly. Now at 2 months old they have put on a massive 2 to 3 grams each!

Add on to that - the mother was about 1m 60cm when bred and weighed about 1,200 gms. The father (males are smaller) was about 1m 20 cm and maybe 500 gms

A foot long baby? THose are huge. My adult male C. c. carinata are only at about 14-17".

Wow, they are beautiful! :D So glad to see them eating! Are you going to switch them to rodents, or keep them on a lizard diet?

Wow. How old?

I got them as adults, and that was 2 years ago for the newest of them.

Good luck switching them over... I have one male I still can't get to take mammals. One that will only take live mammals.

The three females will all take f/t.

I don't have ready access to mammals - but I have managed to get all mine on to birds. When big enough they take day old or week old chicks with as much enthusiasm as they do geckos. Also managed to get them to take chicken hearts and eventually small wing portions... :)

I was about to say, being arboreal, and a Boa, I can see them taking birds without too much fuss. I've never met a Boa that refused a bird.

Might be worth the effort to make a chicken coop (or whatever land bird, if any, exists on those islands) and raise your own. :shrug01:

Actually got there just before you... but only raising them for a week to put a bit of muscle onto them before they get the chop and go into the freezer... :ack2:

Friends of mine trap Mynah birds (local invasive species) and use those, but I'm afraid of internal parasites, not to mention fleas and mites....

Mynah are Corbin, which = smart. But I understand your concern.

Them chicks look like they'll do though. Wouldn't you want a couple to grow for the eggs? Mmmm eggs. :)

Well, these are all roosters (therefore half the price of laying hen chicks), so the wait for eggs would be a long one...;) also at present these are in my bathroom, as we have another invasive species, the mongoose, which I think would do for an outdoor chicken coop in short order unless I fortified it like Fort Knox...

The Mynahs ARE smart- they've taken over the entire urban areas in Fiji, pushing out our native birds. Great mimics though - they do hawks really well, and use that cry as a warning to other birds in the area when there's a Swamp Harrier about. Quite remarkable to watch. Pity they crap all over the outdoor furniture....:ack2:

Even newly hatched quails are almost too big for these (my species). Anyway, it is a non starter, not in a situation where I could ever raise birds. The snakes are pushing it and that makes it hard enough to find an apartment.
