Even newly hatched quails are almost too big for these (my species). Anyway, it is a non starter, not in a situation where I could ever raise birds. The snakes are pushing it and that makes it hard enough to find an apartment.
I don't know whether this is relevant in the USA, but just in case....
I buy the day-old chicks from the factory, where they normally cull the male chicks. I stun them, break their necks and freeze them, same as F/t rats and mice.
You don't have to raise them, I'm just trying it because when I feed them the direct hatchling chicks, they still have yolk in their bellies and the snake S**T is liquid and disgusting....
But my main point for you is that with the smaller snakes, I have had success with cutting off a chick leg and feeding that. They take it just as eagerly as the whole chick and it's obviously much smaller. If that works, you could then try scenting mice with the rest of the chick.
It is a problem finding whole animals that such small snakes can take, I do use small geckos and follow them with chicken parts. As this does not give them everything they need, I occasionally supplement by packing a chicken heart with powdered reptile vitamins.
