    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

My first question is concerning my heat source, which I will explain my setup to help everyone get a grasp of what I am dealing with. The room my snakes are in is normally heated to 78 degrees, although this winter its been difficult to keep it there, so I would say its averaging 72 degrees. I have a 4 stack of custom wooden cages, 3/4'' thick with plexiglass doors, each cage is 48'' x 24'' x 12''. My heat is supplied by heat panels controlled by a Helix DBS-1000, set at 96 degrees. This setting for the most part had been giving me a floor temp of 92-94 degrees on my hot side, with it fluctuating a degree or two. Lately, it has been everything my panels can do to keep the hot side at 84-88 degrees with the same 96 temp setting. So, with the lower room temp being where my problem is starting, would it be beneficial to add flex watt into the flooring of each of these cages, attached to a second thermostat? Or should I focus more on adding additional heat into my room?

Now for question #2. I have decided that Kraft paper is the way I want to go for my substrate, the only thing I can't decide on is the thickness to go with and if I should get smooth or indented paper. I should say that I do plan on putting a little bit of aspen bedding on top, just to help with humidity and such. Here are the links to my source for paper. I am looking at the 30'' wide roll and the weight of each given roll determines the thickness.

Doesn't sound like there is a temp issue
IMO,88*f is pretty well optimal for most
all the constrictors

I would have to agree that 88 is OK, but that is the best I am getting in these colder outside temps. It's not consistently there. I should of also mentioned that I am also dealing with gravid/ovulating females, which is why I mentioned my temp being preferred at 92-94 on the hot side.
 
maybe add an oil filled heater or some other way to bring up the ambient temps. My warm sides don't get to 90, they seem fine with the high 80s as Tommy said. Go with indented kraft. I'm using singleface corrugated instead of kraft, I didn't like the sharp edges on kraft wrap.
 
I have an oil filled, radiator style heater in the room now. I gotta be careful with how hot it gets because it just sucks the moisture out of the air. It's pretty much at 90% as of now, which the manufacture does not recommend going above that.

About the Kraft paper April, what weight (thickness) were you using that you didn't like?
 
I never used it, we sell it where I work and I wasn't happy about the sharp edges, same with dunnage which is basically unprinted news paper but newspaper has blunted/softer edges. We can't get the indented kraft unless I ordered half a truckload so I went for the singleface.

I tried the single sided stuff, looked like a piece of thin card board cut in half right? I didn't like it very much. Once it got soiled it was a mess cleaning up, especially if a water bowl got tumped over. This is what I used.

Sorry April. Send me a link to the stuff you use. I know we talked about this a long time ago, I just felt the need to make a thread to get others opinions. Not many people chiming in.
 
Getting back to the heating problem, I realize my temps aren't that bad right now, but its just now getting cold here, it will get much colder, that is what worries me. Bigger room heater or add flex watt? What would you do?
 
When we get the real cold spells here I just cover the back side of cages close to the windows with blankets.

These two keep things very consistent in my snakes world

I got the same little set up. Oil filled radiator heater and a humidifier, not as big of a humidifier but close to that size. So I am getting the vibe that it would be best to up the size of my room heater rather than add flex watt? I knew that would be the easier of the 2 options.
 
By the way, the kraft paper, which is what "cage liners" are made out of for the most part, is best used in a 50 or 60lb thickness. I purchased a 40lb thickness and it's not quite thick enough for snakes.
 
Sounds like your RHP's may be too small. What brand, size and wattage? Right now I use RBI 40w and do not have a problem when I keep my room temps up but I have to use 80w's on the bigger lower units, which are about the size of your cages.

I use the 80w for all my larger cages. This is the first year I have used them and its just taking me some time to get used to how the heat is distributed. It seems my temps are lower for my gravid females than what I like, but I have noticed they are no longer staying directly under the panel. When I check there actual body temps, they are about 88, which is what I expect a gravid female to be at. The next cage I build will have flex in the floor with my panels overhead for a basking site, just for my peace of mind.
