    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Alyssa saves the day... well tries to.

Today is the first day of summer vacation for my 7 year old daughter and she is spending the day with my mother. So they were hanging out inside the house when they heard one of the cats outside growling and sounding aggressive. So they look out the window and they see that the cat has a lizard of some sort in his mouth with the tail hanging out. My mom tells my kid to leave it alone and asked her to take the empty bottles to the recycle bin @ the end of the driveway before they pick up. In that time, my daughter takes one of the empty bottles, scares the cat and he drops the lizard and runs and she scoops him (the lizard) into the water bottle. (first picture)

So she brings it back in the house (scares the daylights out of my mother with it) and says "look I saved it, we need a tupperware container fast and poke holes in it so it can breathe... my dad can help take care of it!".. meantime my mom notices its in pretty bad shape (it has bite marks all over its body and on the top of its head) but she puts it in a container to appease the child (second picture). She had been watching it non stop and said "hes sleeping don't bother him" (during this time my mom has texted pictures and called to tell me the story).. but my mom ended up telling her "hes dead" ... so shes upset but insist they have a funeral for him :)... so my mother is digging a hole in the backyard to bury the little guy... Thought it was cute... especially considering this time last year my daughter was afraid of ladybugs.. and now she is trying to save lizards... and she likes our Balls and likes to watch them snatch up the mice lol.

Aww.

It may have been playing dead. Those skinks are great at it. I caught one a while back and it played dead for about an hour.

LOL i just called and told my mom to unbury it for a little while and see if he runs... lol she will rebury it this afternoon if he isnt dead.

:D My cat got a hold on my brothers iguana many years ago. I came home from work and the cat was flinging the lizard in the air and swatting it with his paw upon descent. I felt so bad and tried to nurse the lizard back with not positive outcome. They can be brutal animals, lol.

It wasn't the primary reason, but I will not own a cat again. Through the spraying and frothing at the mouth over my snakes, I had to let our last cat go to my mothers farm (where he thrives on mice and wild snakes). I love cats, but I don't think I'm a cat person anymore, lol.

Our cats pay no mind to the snakes... though they try to get on the top of the racks sometimes... and I had our baby bumblebee out the other day and they were eyeballing him... told the cats I'd break their necks if they even thought about it... they are more interested in Alyssa's Robo Dwarf hamster "Manny" than anything :)

Awww how sweet of her!

Sadly, he most likely is dead, or won't survive. Cats have a very high level of bacteria in their mouths, and the needle like canines that 'inject' it. I've never seen a small animal survive it.

Yeah, cats are bad news for wildlife. I did bird wildlife rehabilitation for 2 years and we never had a wild bird survive a cat bite. Inevitably, the bird would die of systemic infection within a week, or die of the intensive antibiotic treatments that could possibly save it. Pretty depressing to see. v_v One of the nature centers down here in Georgia have an eastern screech-owl of all things that was attacked by a cat. It survived, but is now blind in one eye and has a broken wing, so it can't be released.

I don't have cats, but after the experiences I've had, they'd be indoor only. Cats are just too hard on wildlife.

Oh, Stephanie, dunno if you're interested, but there's a product out there call a "cat bib" that will almost eliminate your cat's ability to kill wildlife. It was tested in the field in Australia. It looks ridiculous and your cat will probably pout for a couple of days, but it could be a worthwhile investment. You can read more about it here: http://www.catgoods.com/

I just may have to look into that Vanessa. Thanks so much!!

The cat was declawed when we got him... but he really does catch alot of rabbits and birds all the time... its pretty interesting how he does it but its still sad. :( I left him at my parents when I moved out because he had become adapted to their house/yard and he prefers to be outside more than anything. My cats I have at my house are strictly indoor cats and really pay no mind to our snakes.. they are more interested in the hamster... and stare out the window and make the teeth chattering noises at the birds squirrels and rabbits outside lol.

The picture is from 2003 (one of my senior pictures) with the devil cat "Whiskers" :)

Sweet that your daughter tried to save the lizard. :)

that cat bib is fantastic! what a great invention! thanks for the link Vanessa

My 3 cats are indoor only; 2 prior cats were indoor/outdoor and sadly they decimated the fence lizard population in the backyard (one of the many reasons I decided to go indoor only now).
