    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

My web sites are down because apparently the host went down and I didn't know it. Not sure who I paid either, but possibly not who I thought, even though I sent payment where I've always sent it...

Anyway~ I'll deal with that shortly~meanwhile I need a new host for my two web sites. I *thought* fauna used to offer that service but I can't find a link. Am I mistaken or am I just missing the link? I need a new host that will support Frontpage extensions.

Thanks for any help

Yes, I used to offer hosting, but it just was not worth the headaches. When I saw places offering hosting services for $5 per month, I could see that this just wasn't feasible for me any longer. I just could not provide any level of service for that low of a fee, and couldn't see burning myself out and getting nothing out of it. Plus when I considered what the server would cost me and the number of client's I would need just to break even, well, it just was not a smart business decision to stay in that kind of business.

Sorry I can't help you. But good luck finding a new host....

Cheryl I use www.bluehost.com and have been using them for years. I am 100% satisfied with their customer service and support. They have even helped me fix a problem on my end that they didnt have to help with.

Their fee's are very reasonable. Check them out.

If my post was deleted for "inappropriate advertising," so should Kevin's as he posted a link to hosting too. Just because he doesn't handle the hosting, doesn't make it any different. If you want to be like that, treat everyone the same. :NoNo:

Kevin, not singling you out, please don't take it personally...Just ticked that one person can advertise a hosting service and another can't.

As I responded to your PM, Steph, there is a big difference between the two posts. Yes, Kevin recommended a service...you offered yours - complete with a list of options and pricing. That's called advertising, not trying to be helpful. Had Kevin done that, he would have received the same response from me.

If that were true, you could have deleted that section of the post instead of the whole thing and giving me an infraction. It's BS, Harald and you know it.

As I also said in the PM...if you're so convinced that my action was inappropriate, take it up with Rich or one of the other mods.
I'm certainly not opposed to admitting when I'm wrong, but your argument isn't convincing me that that is the case. If they think Kevin's post merits the same treatment, they can act on it - rest assured, I'll admit it right here.

Regarding your last comment - you know we don't selectively edit the content of posts. We leave the content, or get rid of it entirely.

Rich responded to me, opining that I went a bit overboard in my response to your post, Steph. He attempted to explain why, the gist of which seemed to be
I do see your perspective in WHY you did that, but I think coming down hard on someone for posting in a discussion forum needs to be more targeted to people doing such things in the specific topic discussion forums.
Admittedly, I don't see the difference; but that's for me to sort out with Rich privately....
Your infraction has been reversed, and your post restored. I hope you can accept my apologies.

I do want to take just a moment to clarify the above statement, as I was asked about it. At times, we may remove an attachment, image, or video that is deemed unacceptable/inappropriate...what I was referring to was that we don't generally edit people's words by picking and choosing what content we want to remain.

Thank you, Harald. I too apologize for taking it so personally. I think you work very hard as mod here and it can't be an easy task.

Cheryl, sorry for your thread going so off the wall.

Cheryl, sorry for your thread going so off the wall.

Not at all~ I'm just sorry my topic caused ruffled feathers. Happy to see it smoothed over. And thank you both for the information. I was really hoping it was just a misunderstanding with my host that had my sites down, but as they have been down for some time now I'm just going to have to work out a new host. I HATE change, and fear "upgrades". So...a little help when I'm forced to make a change is much appreciated.

Thanks

Who is your host? I've worked with a variety of them with different clients. Have you attempted to call them? Most of the larger ones have 24-7 technical support.

I'm still hoping to contact him privately. He is a participant of fauna and I'm hoping to at least get a refund and not have to make a stink. He did not bill me for this years service, but he never has previously. Usually I contact him and tell him I owe him money every January. This year when I told him he didn't respond so I just sent the usual payment to the usual address. Now my sites are down, and if I can find a new host and get a refund I'd rather not make trouble.
