    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

My new baby boa got out today and was found by my trouble making cat...

He is about 8 months old so still very small
and he has a few teeth marks on him from my cat..
trust me i am traumatized. i cried for a good minute..
ive never had a snake get out before
let alone have my worst cat to find him be the one to get to him first

there is only one bite mark that is actually open and bleeding the rest are more dent like and look like blood under the surface.. I dont know what to do!

i gave him a warm bath to soak it for 30 min or so.
and for now have put him back in the cage. working on sealing up the gaps that he escaped through and adding new holes for ventilation.

what do i do now?
is he going to be ok?
should i go to a vet tmrw?
how much should i expect the vet visit to cost? ( not worried about cost just want a heads up )
and should i continue his regular feeding cycle of every weekend.? or should i cut it down to a smaller meal to reduce stress on wounds? or cut out a meal?

i guess i really should have looked these things up before and i feel really horrible right now.. but im pretty sure hes going to be ok.. hes moving around fine it seems. and still breathing and not to pissed off or anything..

any help is apprieciated.

here is a picture of the only bleeding site.

For now, clean it with some diluted betadine, then put some bacitracin or neosporin on the wound. Replace his substrate with paper towels so it stays relatively clean. He should be okay, but a vet visit would be preferred just to make sure.

all i have is hydrogen peroxide.?
you can put neosporin on?? ok i will then

Cat bites can be very, very severe. If you search on the internet you'll find many frightening tales. i thought they were an exaggeration, until my friends cat playfully bit his thumb. He had to go to ambulatory care 2x per day for a week for IV antibiotics, that's how bad the infection was. Took about a day before he was in absolutely excruciating pain :S

So I would at the very least call up your vet, maybe go in for a visit. Better safe than sorry.

I agree with Katia, I would definitely talk to the vet at the very least, but possibly take the snake in. If the bite seems really deep, don't mess around and just take the snake in.

I'm not sure what prices run in your area for a vet visit. For me, a snake costs about $35 dollars just for the vet to walk in the room with you and look at your snake. If you need an x-ray, I think it cost me around $100 type range. I don't know what antibiotics will cost, but I think they're not too bad? I'm definitely guessing here, but maybe like $10 for a wound wash and some ointment or cream? If you need to buy injections I have no idea what the prices are like. I hope that is a decent estimate, but I think prices vary widely depending on where you are located.

Cats can have some nasty bacteria in their mouths. I had a cat that was bitten on the hip by another cat. He limped a little, and had some swelling, but I didn't take him in because I figured it was just regular bruising and inflammation from the catfight. He had escaped and gotten in fights before, so I figured he would be fine. A few days later the swollen area burst open, leaving the cat with a crater the width of a golf ball over his hip, you could see down to the muscle! He definitely got a vet visit then.

Good luck!

Vet.

Cat saliva is toxic to some animals. It contains Pasteurella. Not sure if that includes cold blooded critters, but why take the chance?

If it were me, I'd clean him up best I could, keep him clean, and get him in asap for a pro opinion aka veterinarian.

You're probably looking at $100-200, depending on where you are. There'll be an exam fee, fee for any tests, and then a fee for antibiotics if he needs them. Expensive yes, but some lessons need to be. Make your enclosures escape and cat proof.

I agree that a vet visit is needed, but in the meantime, don't panic. I had a group of garter snakes escape once and got quite badly scratched and slightly bitten by my cats, but antibiotic cream ((such as Neosporin) fixed them all. They were left with a few scars but no major damage.

That one bite wound doesn't look too severe to me, as long as you can prevent infection.

just a quick word - don't use the neosporin with the pain reliever in it.

good luck, it will probably be okay, I'd still go to the vet just to be safe but make sure to go immediately if there is any swelling. cat bites can be quite dirty.

Vet costs vary, they should be able to quote you a visit fee, usually $30-75 depending on the vet. Generally, antibiotics are not that expensive (~$20-40) but blood work and xrays can each run $100+.

Animals(reptiles) have an amazing ability to shrug off many things that would otherwise
be detrimental to lesser creatures.
If you have cleaned the wound and applied an antibiotic for a "few" days to allow the animals own ability to ramp up to the issue it should be just fine.

Drop a bunch of "panic" coin if you want to(Vet) but it really wont benefit the animal
just the Vet.

Thankyou very much

that last sentence is kinda exactly what ive been thinking
but i just wanted someone else to confirm that.

i think with some proper cleaning with watered down iodine and some neosporin for the weekend. then a feeding on monday and he will be back to normal, maybe a scar or two.

Of course i will keep a keen eye on him and if anything out of the ordinary comes up he will be going in to the vet.

You either live in paranoid fear of everything or be apart of the now extinct
"self sufficient" capable of common sense human race

Being paranoid of cat bites is VERY warranted. Like I said, I've seen it for myself. Cat bites can get intensely infected, fast. Just depends on the bacteria in the cats mouth. You may get lucky and not get an infection, you may get unlucky and lose your snake.

It really could go either way.

BUT IT DOESN'T APPLY TO REPTILES !!!
Cat bites do not/are not an issue with BCI/BCC,simple puncture wound, period!!
Scary that some people have reptiles and FAIL at the basics of their simple yet evolutionarily resilient existence

I agree with this. I would also recommend bumping the temp a bit to boost the snakes immune system.

I'm a vet tech (I'm only saying this so you know what kind of experience I have with cat bites) and I wouldn't take that baby to the vet unless it swells up or your guy starts acting ill or you see any signs of septicemia (if you don't know what that looks like in a reptile, please google it).

Why am I saying this? Because I don't know very many herp vets that would start a snake on antibiotics for a wound that small if it's not infected.

What I would do is get some betadine (at the drug store), make a dilute solution (50/50 with water should do) and clean that area twice a day, and keep him on paper towels. Don't be afraid to be a little aggressive with your cleaning. Keeping that wound open for a few days will actually help you out. If it is going to get infected, you will know in a couple of days and it's much better to have a draining wound than a closed abscess.

Funny story, we actually treated a cat today who was bitten by the family's boa....

I agree 100%. Snakes are tough creatures, especially when it comes to simple wounds like this on. I would like to see an updated pic of the wound to see how it is coming along.

thankyou! I have been keeping it clean and using neosporin
and it seems to be healing up quite well

i will post an updated picture later tonight.

Hold off on keeping it sanitized, you need to let it have good air
to heal faster. I've had a few chewed up wild caught that healed over in just weeks.
Let the animal heal itself!

sorry for the delay on the updated pic.
was having issues getting it from my phone to my laptop.

anyways here he is looking much better imo.
