    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

RI question about quarantine.

So i have a possible case of an ri if anything i caught it real early. The only sign's i have noticed were small pops or clicks when he flicks his tongue no bubbles unless i lightly squeeze his snout. I have a new bp coming in on monday and want to put her in a qt but my qt room has the possible ri :( What should i do? Basically i dont have allot of space and have 2 closets one has my established collection and the other is my qt room/ rat room. Should i put the new animal in the same closet with a possible ri but keep them as far away as possible.. Or should i buy a new thermostat and put them in my living room?
 
You should try to find the cause of it check your husbandry.By fixing the problem it may just disappear. If you wanna be on safe side get a neb and start nebing f10 30 min a day for couple weeks. If it progresses a vet is needed asap. I would seperate if u can.
 
keep them away from other snakes,, also keep tub clean once a week from them spitting stuff on tub itself,, also keep dry heat and no humidity it kills them and grows bacteria... also try soaking snake in small tub with warm water with some holes for air aleast twice or three times a week, it helps break up infection quickly,, also clean mouth with warm water in tub or etc one a week to help with mouth rot setting in from ri in mouth,,, if not better,, go to vet and get shots of baytril and follow the same options.... u be good.... also like the other breeders said check ur lay out of ur collection,,, make sure enough heat and humidity is there or u will have massive issues down the road,,,, we all have this happen even with awesome set ups,, just give the best care and understand ur snakes in ur own place which all homes are different in temps and humidity....i hope this helps...good luck....
 
Im going through this now...I have 3 that are being treated...this sucks...but...treatment is going well and Ill get through it...mine started from a cold front that came through a month ago...I wasnt ready for it and did not turn on the heat and it hit me hard...thank god it was only the 3 and they are not that bad...
 
I second the idea of having the seller hold the new snake until you get the RI under control. If not, I would do anything I could come up with--find a friend/relative's house to hold the new one for a little while. I wouldn't want my whole collection to get sick, nor a new snake, that's likely healthy.
 
So RI will spread from snake to snake even in seperate tubs in same rack? I have a jacuzzi, could I hold him in there while I relax in there?
 
As I understand it, it's both a contact, and an airborne problem. But that's only based on what others have told me on forums like this. While I love these forums, it's tough to wade through all the advice and know which to follow.

The best advice I think one could use with an RI is to get the snake to a competent vet. Have a culture done to see exactly what antibiotic is required, if any.

The next best pieces of advice would be to stress the snake as LITTLE as possible; get that animal away from the rest of your collection; visit the vet! I wouldn't take one in the hot tub with me if I suspected it's sick. That just seems like it would stress the animal out even more. Stress on these animals can really take its toll.

Though there may be some home remedies/treatments available to you to address some of the symptoms, are you really willing to risk your snake's (or collection's) health/life by skipping on the vet visit? Nebulization is an option, but I don't believe it will completely rid a snake of RI. Temperature changes might help. Check your husbandry. There seems to be a lot of people on both sides of the humidity argument with RI. Some say more is better, others say dry is better.

Likely with being able to see the bubbles and hear the popping, it's advanced enough to deserve a vet visit.... Did I mention take it to the vet? lol... Sorry, I seem to be going on and on. I just want to reiterate, that a snake with RI should see the vet for a true remedy.
 
Hey Tim, your right. I'd take my dog if I don't know what's wrong and my horses. But, I've taken care of a cotton mouth bite on my horses' nose and got her over being colic when I first got her. Just read up on the symtoms 1st. I found a reptile doc about 30 miles from me and got an appt. on Monday. I didn't see a reptile doc in my area a couple years ago, so I thought. Let yall know.

The closest reptile vet in my area is about 2.5 hours away. I'm always worried about RI... I've found friends at the college extension here who can do a culture, and a local vet willing to get me an array of antibiotics to test on a culture. However, I still don't know that I'd like to risk my collection to a self-diagnosis and dosage... Hope that day never comes, but with having snakes, I'll have to face sickness some day, I guess.

Im sorry but it the snake makes alittle pop does does not mean it has ri or even advanced ri as you state. A simple change in husbandry may make the diffrence and resolve the pop. Now if the snake is blowing bubbles,breathing mouth open,bubbles out nose, crust on nose,really raspey when breathing then ya thats the sign of ri a vet is needed. Just make appt have them swab. They will give u baytril or fortaz till cultures come back.
 
That's an EXCELLENT point, pmp. I don't mean to alarm anyone to the point of thinking any sound is an RI, and that they then need to get to the vet ASAP. RIs definitely have more than one sign.
 
Thank you overwhelmed with responses! Great advice guys i have contacted a couple vets in my area and have figured out the most affordable vet its going to be right under $100. I have ordered some f-10 that should be in next week also a zoo med fogger for a nebulizer right now i have been keeping him away from my collection in a smaller container thats right at 94-95%. I have a vicks vapor machine that i put in a large tub with his smaller container and seal the top and let him sit in there for a while. I will do this untill i get the f-10 in and the fogger. He is eating and acting normal other than the small clicking still no exterior bubbling just when i squeeze but haven't done that in a while because i feel it stresses him out. I have decided im not going to take him to the vet unless i get "stargazing" and exterior mouth bubbles. I am worried about my collection being infected so im keeping a close eye on them. For the new snake im getting monday i will be able to keep her in a closed closet away from the possible RI but everything in my apartment is close corders so im hoping its not air born yet...
 
I'm not overly convinced of the fogger... a friend of mine had one die shortly (a few days) after he fogged it with the f-10. She had the definite signs of RI. By no means am I suggesting that the fogging won't work. Just a little leary of it actually curing the RI.

However, maybe the snake's infection was too far along. Right after he fogged it, the snake was very lethargic. Maybe the fogging was too much stress. Maybe his concentration of the f-10 was too high for such a little snake. Anyway, good luck with the f-10. Let us know if it helps.

On the video from BHB, the f-10 seems like a great idea, but I really wonder. I'd sure like more detailed information on its use and outcomes at BHB.
 
yeah i would like to know how effective it actually is too im wondering if anyone on here has had luck with this? I agree with you Clark I think the whole idea of using a fogger and f10 came from that video and i wonder how long people have actually been using that method? I haven't heard of it actually working...
 
U can use the fogger but will not be as affective as a neb. With the neb particules are alot smaller allowing to get deeper in lung. I use my fogger once a month fill it with f10 and fog the tubs disenfecting entire enclosure. I also change aspen once a month with disenfect but I run fogger 2 weeks after bedding change.Keep an eye on cl there always on there cheap I picked up few for 20 bucks each good to have just in case.
 
Just got back from the vet. He did an xray and showed me how the lungs/ air sacks are formed and where the infection is. He gave me enrofloxacin for 10 days if that seems to work I'll get another 10 days of it. If not then he'll put him on something else after the 1st 10 days.
 
During the first 10 days, you REALLY should have him do a culture and find out what medicine will definitely work. Otherwise, it's 10 days lost, 10 days more of sick/stressed snake, and 10 days of unnecessary treatment.

I would strongly urge you to have him do the culture. I don't like the shotgun approach to fixing problems. Don't throw solutions at a problem if you don't know what the problem really is. Make the effort to do the due diligence of finding out what solution is appropriate.

A friend of mine had one die within 10-12 days of having her. She didn't seem that sick, but she definitely had signs of RI. He found the video of BHB and the fogger idea. So, based on that, he tried it. She died very shortly after. I was surprised she died so soon. That's why I'm recommending the culture and not wasting time... The stuff you're getting very well may work, too. Hope it does.

A culture? He took swab deep in the mouth and told me a whole bunch of names I can't pronounce/ spell, much less know the meaning. I let him do his job and I'll do my job to the best I can. So Clark, is a swab a culture? Or is a culture in the poop?
 
Swab is mouth. Cultures can cost bit more but well worth it. He sent u home with baytril.You should see some signs of improvement but it may take longer to kick it completely depends on how bad.Keep humidity at 40 percent no higher keep temp raised u want all that stuff to dry up or come out. Remember snakes dont cough up that stuff so it may take time to get it out thats why I used my neb when sick helps loosen it up.Did he say he was gonna send them out? or did he put swab in a swab container and lable it?
