    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

Posted this and now am sure it was ovulation - mating photos in second post.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I'm a newbie at breeding - the last mating I saw there was no visible ovulation at all. However I now have a snake who is swelling up like a (rather alarming) balloon.

She was wild caught and it is just possible that she was gravid when caught, I'm only noticing it now, and she is about to give birth. On the other hand, this has come up very suddenly (noticed 2 weeks ago that she was looking a bit "thick", and now she's positively bloated). This is a species that is pregnant for about 9 months, so nothing usually happens this fast.

She has been housed with males for a while, and it has just dropped to winter temps here which is normally breeding season, but I have not seen any copulations, or attempts at same.

So here are some pics of my swollen Fiji Boa - do you think this is ovulation, pregnancy, or do I have some other problem?

(PS - She hasn't eaten for 5 weeks, so it ain't food...)

Ha Ha! Question answered!

Well, this morning the snakes themselves answered my question - 4 males and Lilith in one huge writhing lump, having a ball (Candoia seem to favour multiple males to get everything started) ..... so I guess it was a 3 week ovulation swell.

Grendal seems to have won the race for now, but as he has a short damaged tail I'm not certain he'll get the job done. The spurs are out and the movements are right, but the poor dear just can't do the tail twine thing.... :eek:

We shall see!

Thanks Utta, I think he went and shined himself up before coming out courting.

He's not getting it all his own way though - there is NO PRIVACY in the world of Fiji Boa Porn...... Threesomes, Foursomes, it's all happening! :ack2:

fricken hooker! I'm suprised the males don't fight.

Hard to keep your mind out of the gutter when there's a perpetual orgy going on in the house! ;)

This morning, the tank looked quite serene, with a couple of heads poking coyly out of the log hide. However, when I picked the hide up, look at the degenerates I found underneath! :reddevil:

(please excuse messy newspaper - I wasn't about to disturb this lot just to give them a clean sheet right now - am waiting until they take a rest break...... :ack2:)

In all the tangle I can't even be sure who is loving her now, so I tried "Snake twister" to try and track everyone. She's traced in pink, the other 4 are the males currently courting, in what is apparently the standard Candoia "Multiple male" scenario. Notice the blushing bride is hiding her head under a log..... :eek:

That is totally awesome Helen! I like the pic where you traced them too, I'd be doing the exact same thing. :D

I like this picture...

They're like..."dude, your still not done? Come one man, we're waiting our turn!"

Actually I chickened out and interfered last night.

Got home and one of the males was wound around her tail like he was constricting the biggest rat he'd ever found, and his head was all scrunched against the front of the tank because of the others piling on top, while she tried to climb a tree.... they only needed ratty denims and colours and it would have been a veritable gangbang! :reddevil:

So I took everyone out for a breather (and a bath - they were all a bit slimy... :ack2:) and put her in a separate tank with only one male for the night (Grendal, he seemed to most deserve a honeymoon).

The others wandered around and coiled up with anyone who would have them for a while, but seem to have all calmed down now and gone back to normal, now that the pheremones have cleared a bit!

Other Candoia breeders say they let the multiple male thing start the party, but then separate the female with her favoured male. I had intended to let it go as nature intended (seeing as we are in close to natural conditions here), but I find I am more lily-livered than I thought - must be an ancestral prudish maiden aunt somewhere in the genes. :(

I'm going to put them back together tonight and see if they have learned better manners.....
