    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. NO MORE REPTILES OF CONCERN IN FLORIDA!!!!

Wow. That's the same thing that happened to hots here in TN. You all but cannot own them in a private setting. It's very sad.

Sheesh, I remember when Florida was practically the reptile keeping capitol of the world. Now you can't own the "big ones" or niles and you have to work half-endlessly to be able to get a venomous permit.

TBH

Regulations for Conditional Snakes and Lizards

Conditional reptiles are not allowed to be acquired for personal possession.

That one little sentence shows me FL is not somewhere I want to live... and I dont even have the large stuff.

and as I read farther down the page

Turtles

As of August, 2010, red-eared sliders may be acquired for personal possession with a permit. Qualified applicants must have an outdoor facility that has a permanent containment barrier secured at least six inches below ground level to prevent escape by digging, erosion, climbing or by passing through gaps. Such barriers may be constructed of solid metal or weather-resistant and rot-resistant material, and may not use mesh material. All eggs must be removed and destroyed daily from outdoor facilities housing red-eared sliders.

I take that back... I dont want to visit there either :angry:

the reason they do that is because they breed and create wild hybrids with the florida penisula turtle and thats either endangered or protected. they do that because they dont want to out breed a native species...

I really wanna move out of this *&^% hole state. Cali seems nice but I dont wanna live that close to mexico. But i hate snow.. so I guess im screwed either way *thumbsup*

I dont have any large stuff either but I always had a thing for albino retics, idk I just love them, I was gonna get one until the slapped them as an ROC

Cali seems nice

California is NOT exotic species friendly. Many counties have banned snakes larger than 6 ft. And you can't have much else exotic including but not limited to;

primates
ferrets
sugar gliders
skunks
fox's
raccoon's
Opossum's
Squirrel's
Deer
Bear
Bobcat's
Hedgehogs
Prairie dogs

I don't know what we could do if the U.S. banned possession of all snakes over 6' or anything like that.

we would have to revolt and not give in to them. If EVERY retile breeder told the government to screw themselves then the laws would be useless. what are the gonna do... put millions of hobbyists in jail?

They are talking about adding boas to that list, when they do im not giving in. U'll see on the news of a shoot out happening in holly hill, florida before I let them take my PET, or i pay their "fees or fines". We must do more than just talk because the dumb and uneducated seem to get their way in this country, (look at Bush). Stand up for what u want or be stomped on while the idiots get their way.

in actuality... not a whole lot. Sure the reptile community could vote against anyone in office to try and get them fired... but the reptile community is small compaired to the whole.

Now that the law has passed in FL... I don't see it being undone.

I really don't understand it. I wouldn't mind a permit system (not super strict) if it meant I could keep my snakes. I really don't see why they outlawed retics, it's not like there is an outbreak in FL. Do they not realize the snakes are not really thriving in FL winters? They cannot move any place else really. I've read reports that say they are worried "they could evolve and get used to the colder weather" ... I'm no genius but I don't think evolution happens quickly and I highly doubt a snake could function at 60 degrees.

Aquarists, Hepetoculturalists, and other exotic keepers, all have to band together.

Im not gonna pay $10,000 a year buying snakes and thier supplies plus the tax on them, AND pay our useless government just to have the RIGHT to own them. In case no one knows domestic cats are not native to the americas, yet they allow them here with no laws and fines u have to pay, and strays breed continuely in our neighborhoods, when are they gonna worry about the REAL destructive species. And in fact the only dog that is native to the North American continent is the american wolf. Its just that people think herps are "slimy and creepy" and they dont want to see those "icky" creatures. And they are so intolerant they dont want to be educated. Whats so wrong with a snake that sleeps quietly in their tank most of theirs lives? Versus the dog that gets out and attacks ur neighbor, or the bird that squaks endlessy through the night in the apartment upstairs. I hate people...

Oh, WOW....my first thought is, this is the worst news for those folks who have huge, really nice reptile facilities (including some legally taken, permitted wild Everglades pythons - think Greg Graziani). What kinds of provisions are in place for educational and research facilities? I guess this pretty much means any newly captured pythons must be destroyed? Unreal. On my way to go register with/donate to USARK...

I really don't understand it. I wouldn't mind a permit system (not super strict) if it meant I could keep my snakes.

it is super strict tho. there is no oops i forgot to register or what not. Their is no second chance, u dont present paper work they take the animal is taken right there, or even destroy them right there in ur home. They wont publicize this but ive seen it happen. A snake I grew up with was drug outta my buddies like it had no meaning to life. Dead. And do u know what his neighbors said? OMG that thing coulda killed my child, he has no right to own that... have no right to own an animal. People scream about their rights and want things their way with no regards to others rights. Seriously I hate this country

Wow, red eared sliders? REALLY?? I'm 90% sure I've still seen them being sold in pet stores..

Yup cuz turtles arent as scary as snakes. I see them at the flea market all the time... I dont really go into a pet stores as I usally wont come out empty handed. Actually it says u can have them as long as u meet specific cage instructions, and destroy their eggs. Its really sad as those are the ones who are released most often and do the most damage. Yea the snakes are big, but cranes eat the young ones and I'm sure gators eat them as well. And I think the media is blowin up this whole population theory, probably less then 10,000 surviving in the Glades. Not anthing like the 100,000 they're randomly pullin out there :censored:. The turtles are gonna breed out another species and create a new species. Maybe its just me but I see that as being more destructive to the balance of the ecosystem.
