    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

New Mexico state law issues

Albuquerque is proposing a new city animal ordinance. You can read it

This ordinance looks invasive all around, not just for reptiles. If
you keep any animal in your household, and you don't want your city
or county to adopt a similar ordinance, please write to the
Albuqureque city council and let them know your thoughts on this
ordinance.

The proposed ordinance calls anything not a dog, cat, or rabbit
an "exotic" and requires a $35 ANNUAL permit for anything not a dog,
cat, or rabbit.
There are also some pretty silly
requirements, such as submitting a letter to the mayor every time one
wants to transport an "exotic". So the mayor needs to know when my
iguana goes for her annual check-up?

The AR is looking at this ordinance as a template for more cities. If
it gets passed here, it will get passed elsewhere.

I spoke with Martin Heinrich's aide today, and Mr. Heinrich is
interested in hearing from the public.

When I went to pick up my corn snake's dinner from petco I found that many of the pets couldn't be sold or shipped at this time. They employees said that it is only because they came from outside New Mexico and until the ordinance is figured out they must stay put. I am happy corn snakes seem to be unaffected, but this just isn't right.
 
Yeah, NM is starting to get pretty dumb.. I was in Las Cruces the other day when I found out about the new permit requirements for people selling many pet store type animals.. Saltwater fish, tarantula's, and nearly all snakes are on the list of things that permits are needed in order to sell them now.. Unfortunately it seems as though the state is trying to put the pet trade out of business as a whole.

Your freedoms, and your guns. Not necessarily in that order.

Congress and government officials have been slowly undoing our constitution for years. These laws pertaining to our pets are but a small example.
 
Maybe its time for someone to let them know they don't own this country (although they like to put it in debt). There needs to be a modern version of a boston tea party to put them in check. The only way they'll be able to take the guns is bullets first haha. Richard, I read something a while back about Texas banning venomous snakes and reptiles whats going on with that?
 
I haven't heard anything. Tim Cole would be the guy to know anything along those lines. He keeps up on that stuff pretty good.

I haven't heard anything along those lines. I know for a fact that TP&W could care less if a Green Anaconda is escaping from it's enclosure as long as the person has spent their $20 for the South Florida Permit as I like to call it!
 
Could someone give me a quick synopsis of the New Mexico laws regarding the keeping of reptiles? Specifically Green Trees, monitors, venemous and hognose snakes. Thanks!

A permit is needed to bring ANY animal into the state. A permit is required to keep venomous. Not sure about hogs.

Is the permit to bring in animals a general permit that covers the person or is it a per animal type of thing?

I'm not clear on that.

Your best bet is to contact Game & Fish and ask them.
 
I've never seen anything on needing a permit to get animals into the state, where does it say this? It used to just say that primates, crocodilians, and a few others weren't allowed but if they changed it that's ok because I had mine here before it said anything about needing a permit. I've heard you need a permit for venomous but I wouldn't think you would need one for green tree pythons.

When James Bear in Deming died from a snake bite, NM Game & Fish filed charges against his wife stating a permit was needed. All of the animals and computers were seized with charges filed against a grieving widow with 3 children. I know this because I was there and I ended taking care of these animals along with Anthony Fish. They wanted to make an example of Jame's wife to let everyone know about this law that no else had ever heard about including pet stores. The state eventually dropped the charges (6 months later)when the Deming District Attorney would not prosecute the case.
 
WOW thats crazy. I guess it's one of those things they don't put out there, they just use it to their advantage against those who are disadvantaged. Pretty sorry legal system if you ask me!
 
I wouldn't worry about it that much, if pet stores are importing tons of stuff out of the state without permits I don't think they can prosecute you for doing the same thing. I have never seen any paperwork on this regulation and I've read all of the ones available on game and fish regarding import/export. It could have changed since then too.
 
I was informed by a friend in Game and Fish that even if you buy an animal from a pet store in NM, to "keep your receipt as documentation of the purchase. If you get the animal from someone else, ask to see if they have a receipt from when they got it, and if they don't get them to write one for you. Just in case you get inspected."
