    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

i just got a new chameleon from theveiledchameleon.com and they sent me the wrong chameleon and they shipped it to the wrong place and i had to pick it up from saginaw i am so mad grr.... but the chameleon they sent me sleeps all day and it has a white discharge coming out of its nose does anyone know what this maybe from? it is very small and black and the one that i was supposed to get was suppose to be very bright green i will post pics when i get a camera any thoughts on this white stuff would be much appreciated thanks

commercial cham places are notorious for not sending the cham pictured. plus i went to their website and their wasnt anything to even indicate that the cham sent would be the cham pictured and in their order section for four month old juveniles,the chameleon pictured is clearly older than four months, even if they did send you the same chameleon, the pictures shown on their site of juvenile chameleons, are just examples they have had those same pictures posted for longer than your cham is old, it is rare that any chameleon would appear as it did in a picture that was taken at least weeks ago , as their appearrance changes from day to day,and they are often dark from shipping , it is impossible to tell size from a photo with no size reference (like the ones on their site) the only way to know the actual size would be to know the SVL which they do not include on their site. if you go back to their site you wil see that the picture they are using today, is the same picture as when you ordered, if they are using the picture of the actual chameleon sent, then how could that be. just one more example of why it is better to be patient until you can find a trusted private breeder

they sent me the pic by email and it was not on their site and i did receive an apology and they said they are gonna somehow make it right but they didn't say. how i looked them up before i ordered it i didn't just order it. thats why i was surprised that this happened they said it was the person who sent it outs fault and i am hoping that they will just send me the other one.

my apologies

now that i did not know . how presumptuous of me , my apologies, i am sorry for jumping to conclusion

thats ok i can see how you would think that and it does happen to people often. i have heard alot of stories about things like this it is the very thing i was trying to avoid happening,but hopefully they will give me the one i did order with no extra shipping charges because it wasnt my fault

The white discharge...is it a crusty substance? What you are most likely seeing is the excretion of sodium and chloride which comes from the nasal salt glands that a lot of reptiles have. I've seen it a lot with iguanas and chameleons.

Is there any thing i can do to stop it? is it harmful to the cham? and do you know what makes them do this something in their water or diet? anything i could change in its environment?thanks so much for the info i appreciate it so much

You don't have to worry :) The salt glands are responsible for getting rid of the excess salts accumulated in the animal during feeding, through their environment, or as a way to conserve water. The excess salts are sprayed out through the nares, and white deposits are sometimes seen around the nares or on the glass/enclosure. It's a totally normal process, and if the salt build-up seems excessive, then all you need to do is wipe it off with a damp q-tip.

As far as the activity level, keep a close eye on it & if it seems to persist with being lethargic, contact a good herp vet. Good luck, Kerri.

Your new cham should not be sleeping at all during the day. It should not be spending much time at all on the floor of it's enclosure (if it is).

You say it's black in color. How long has it been since you received it?
It's color could be in response to stress, illness or feeling threatened.

When you say you got the wrong chameleon, do you mean wrong gender or wrong individual? I didn't see any chams available at their site, so I don't know if they had several listed and you clicked a particular photo to purchase that particular baby.

And how small is it? Snout to vent in inches, I mean.

And yes, as you've been advised the nasal discharge is a normal excretion. I've seen it mostly in my baby Veileds, but generally as they age into juveniles, it ceases.

And just out of curiosity, do you know the name of the seller? And who shipped it out if they did not?

she is finally not sleeping during the day anymore but when she does sleep at night she is bright green. when i said i got the wrong one it was the wrong individual but the right sex. she is still dark in color but not black and she lightens up instantly when i take her out. i received it about 6 days ago and when i bought her i emailed them an inquired whether they had any 8 to 9 mth olds her picture was never on the website i received via email. her svl is about 8in its hard to get an accurate measurement she is very fast and tries to get away. the name of the seller is karin leiber and she said it was one of their employees that shipped while she was out and made the mistake. i just received an email from her today and she apologized and said they are going to pay all shipping costs and send me the one i ordered or i have the option to pick a different one it just took awhile for them to get back to me thats why i was kinda worried hopefully i get what i ordered, but they were extremely nice about it.

Well, it's good to hear that your cham is awake during the day, that's a good sign.

Remember that it isn't a good idea to handle your chameleon, they are solitary and grumpy by nature; they like and need their privacy and don't care to associate with each other, let alone humans. They stress easily. The reason she turns bright green when you handle her is not because she's happy, it's because she's feeling threatened and vulnerable. Veileds (and Panthers) throw their brightest colors
when agitated, defensive or stressed. They also brighten when they sleep - I don't know why, but I know they do.

Just give her the privacy she needs; no handling, good nutrious gutloaded feeders, lots of water, UVB and a basking light (make sure you measure her basking temps). Make sure she has lots of foliage to hide in and she should be good :)
