    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

So, I had this bad accident in the kitchen and the doctors did everything to save the tip of my right index finger, but I have to have it amputated tonight and I can't calm down. Help!

I'm probably too late to comment since you said "tonight". Hope it all went well after the fact! This one of MANY excuses I give as to why I don't cook.

Hi Lilly,

You'll be alright. My grandfather didn't have the tips of three of his fingers due to a WWII accident and he was fine. Just take deep breaths and think positive. You can always attach a thimble or something low-tech to the tip of the finger to assist with typing, and I think you'll be surprised how quickly you adapt to it.

I know what you're going through right now. My mother is still in the hospital. Last Sunday her left arm became necrotic, and the doctors had to remove so much tissue that she will never be able to use her left wrist and hand again. I know it's not fair to compare injuries to each other, but losing the tip of a finger is really not a big deal. You'll be fine. Keep your chin up.

As you are typing, don't forget someone else is at their computer doing it with only 6 fingers instead. It is easy to focus on the 1/4 gone, don't forget it could have been worse. All things said, glad you are back and up to posting:thumbsup:

Robert, do you seriously only have six fingers? Could've fooled me, given how much you type, lol! :)

Was speaking in general terms, "someone" in the world:D

Well that makes me grateful for the remaining 3/4!
If you thought it was me for a moment, and it got your mind off the K.I.A. 1/4 then that is good!

Psst...I have all 10, but don't tell Lilly... it appears to have helped relieve some of her worries...

My partner had a really bad compound fracture of his forearm, now thankfully healed but with slightly limited rotation that makes it hard for him to type for long on a regular flat keyboard - but we found a curved ergonomic keyboard that compensates nicely - just as well, he's never off the damn thing.

A friend of ours lost 3 fingers from one hand in a car accident, only retaining a thumb and first finger - he manages very well too.

It's amazing how the human body adapts. I like the thimble idea - you could get a silver antique one!

Hope you are starting to heal now Lilly.

It's really not a big deal. (I'm not talking pain-wise) I only have 9 3/4 of my fingers, and I manage to make it. ;-) My typing is still as fast as others with all 10 fingers. (I am missing the tip of my right hand ring finger, down to just past the first knuckle.)

But I will warn you that in the winter you will probably ache quite a bit. If my finger/hand gets cold, it travels up my arm and throbs even after I get warm. It also aches quite a bit after getting cold. And depending on how the Dr. fixed it, you might have nerve issues and of course there is phantom pains/itches. (It SUCKS when it feels like the tip of that finger is itching and I can't scratch it!)

But keep in mind that I lost the tip of my finger back in 1986. So goodness knows how far they've come in amputations and nerve endings.

And while I have mentioned some things to watch for, there's some pluses too. My daughter thinks it's cool, and so do her friends. lol It's always a conversation starter if you like that sort of thing. lol

Here's a couple pics of my lovely hand complete with missing fingertip.

It's not a problem. As others have said, your body and mind learn to adapt.

So, idk how to post photos up on this from my library, can someone tell me how to post photos?

I actually don't know if you're on a public computer...I've always just uploaded from my phone by connecting it to my computer with the cord... Sorry...:shrug01:

But how are you feeling, and how's your finger doing?

So, I meant from my computer's library (the pictures stored on it), and my finger's doing fine, even though all the skin just peeled off the tip this morning…-.-

Sounds like you've got the situation under control. Very neat solution! Do upload photos when you can.

Ah...DUH me. lol Dan posted how to upload pics...

Thanks Dan!

And did you let it peel on it's own, or did you "help" it peel?

OH, I made a little prosthetic out of air dry clay, and sculpted the fingernail and the little fold wrinkles and everything ;)

That sounds neat, but be sure to let it have moving air go around it as much as possible. Your finger will still need to figure out how to breathe, and manipulate itself without a prosthetic. I've never used one, and except for nerve issues when it's cold; I've never needed one.

I'm interested in seeing what they did to your finger and your prosthetic that you made.
