    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

I'm watching a show on Animal Planet right now about animal hoarders. Low and behold there is a guy on there that has 26 snakes (they seem to be cared for and kept in proper caging) and he is considered a hoarder. I have over 26 snakes so I guess I'm a hoarder too then lol. The guy has a few big snakes (retics and burms) and they had a little "fact" pop up about the snakes that said that they've been known to prey on humans....I couldn't believe it! All of this negativity in the media is getting ridiculous. It frustrates me even more knowing that most of the people watching this show right now believe word for word every bad thing that has been said about these awesome animals that we all love and adore. I just hope that the petitions and letters written and sent to the government will help us keep our animals and essentially our rights.

Keep up the good work everybody!

And yet reptile keepers continue to watch Animal Planet, a channel that pretty much does nothing but spread the word of animal rights extremists and spews false science. It might be time to quit putting money in the enemy's pockets.

Yea I stopped watching Animal Planet because of shows like that. There was another show a few years ago about big snakes and how dangerous they are to have as pets. After that I refuse to watch it. It targets the "traditional" pet owners and I have no interest in it anymore. Instead of having shows like that, they should aim to educate people about animals. Wasn't that the reason it was called Animal Planet? To open minds about all kinds of animals in the world not just the cute fluffy ones.

Anyways that's just my opinion on it.

I dont believe people understand how ratings work on the new age
boob tube.

Everyone that has a "connected" service is logged,if you so much as
open that channel thru scrolling it will log you as watching the entire
airing program.

Delete it from your menu's and you will no longer further their cause.

I have switched to National Geographic channels. We gotta watch something!

I usually watch National Geographic. I was just flipping through channels when I saw the program and then I couldn't stop watching.

Just as the Pitbulls have a bad rap, our "non-traditional" pets are falling victim to the same fate. It sucks and pisses me off how closed minded people are that are affraid or simply do not like reptiles. Watching those shows just furthers their ignorance and that is why our pets are facing the same harsh punishments, a few irresponsible owners and a natural disaster has come to this...lol. Such rediculous-ness...

Lets hope it does not get any worse then it already is.

The best way to fight this type of crap is to educate the public. And, if you have to, call your representative. HR511 is being moved to the house for voting. I called my rep and told his assistant about my PTSD and how the snakes help as stress relief. There are many of us out there that use these animals as our PTSD "dogs" and we also have people out there with Bipolar disorder/ other mental health issues, that have snakes because of how easy they are to care for, and that they are easier to handle than other things. I know that USARK is fighting for our rights due to the money/jobs lost due to the legislation. But, we need to be contacting our Rep's in order to let them know the more human side of the issue, we need to pull at their heart strings and let them know that snake owners are not all what they think we are.

I agree -- the more people who call their reps, the better.

One step further, if your rep is sympathetic to reptile owner rights, then send in a small donation to their campaign with the reason written on the memo line. If a rep gets even a few of those, it will start to stick!
