I finally got my cage done. Its been working out great. I will get more details on it later. Let me know what you think.

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?
So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.
But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.
Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.
I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

I can't remember the name of the stain I used, but it starts with a P. Then I sealed it with 3 coats of minwax polyurethane. The floor is covered with vinyl, which I used hot glue to seal around the edges, which works great because it seals well, easy to apply, drys almost instantly and if I need to pull up the floor for a repair I can do so. I did staple the corners to keep the vinyl tight. It is working out great. This set up is working so good, especially as far as heating goes.

I got the rack installed on the bottom and its working great. I gotta watch my temps though, in a large wooden cage like this its hard to have even heating from bottom to top. It took about 3 days to get it right.

I have a question about updating my ventilation in my custom wood cages. Right now I basically just have a series of 3/8'' holes drilled on the sides of each section of caging. I am suspicious if this is good enough ventilation. What I was thinking was cutting a 2''x12'' slot in each caging, screen it in and put wood trim around the screen to give it a window look. What are your thoughts on this? By the way, rather than take new pictures of the cage, I just figured I would use "paint" to show what I am trying to do.

I'll count the holes in my boamasters when I get home. Once has appx 40 - 3/8th holes in the front and 12 - 3/8" x 3" slots in the back. The other just has the slots in the back. Both hold humidity well and seems to vent fine over the last month or so.

Thanks! I also have some crooked holes drilled into the front plexiglass which I should have never done. "Never drink beer in the final stages of a cage", lol. I am definitely in need of more ventilation then, I have maybe 8 holes on the side of each cage and 8 in the front. I am noticing when a boa defecates the smell is strong inside the cage, which tells me maybe I don't have good enough ventilation. I have an older boa that is a rescue and a month or so ago she relapsed with an RI, I am trying to make sure ventilation isn't the cause. The air just seems stale inside the cage if you know what I mean.
Yeah I get the same thing with the smell. I learned quick how much better they hold humidity too.

These 2 pictures kinda of gives you an idea of how it all came together. The cage looks great, but I have been running into some sealing issues. The lenoleum isn't working as good as it has in past cages. I need to do something different with the flooring to prevent water from contacting flexwatt. Any ideas? I have 1 cage open, so I can repair each cage induvidually as needed and switch snakes around. But I am in a tough position since the snakes are in the cage. What shall I do?
By the way, water is being spilled out of a couple of the water bowls, something I never had a problem with past boas, so this was never a problem for me. The next cage I build will be able to hold water like a aquarium.

Just to show how far I have came along with cage building, here is the previous cage I built. This one works much better, although I didn't have the sealing issues with the previous cage. I used actual sylicone to seal the sides on this cage, the newest one I used hot glue. Changed sealants mostly due to toxicity of sylicones.

I would buy a big roll of linoleum and cut it to the size of the entire floor and then caulk where the walls meet the linoleum. Or, if you are using 12" squares, maybe caulk around the square? Or, lay down a 12" (square) piece of plywood thats 3/8" or thicker and then put the flexwatt on and then the linoleum and seal with epoxy. That way it's still a mobile unit.
Will it be safe to use a sealant or sylicone with the snakes present in the other cages. I mean, the cages are seperated, share no ventilation holes. But what I had planned was re-sealing the cage that is empty first, let it dry for 3-4 days, then place a snake in there, then repeat process in each empty cage as I move snakes around. Good enough plan? Because, truthfully, the hot glue is what is causing all these problems. It won't stay in place.
