    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

Im looking for Idea's and Suggesions
In this thread Im going to give some background information on to why Im asking and looking for idea's and suggestion's on the subject

( As the writting in this thread is simular if not exact in some paragraphs to a post I made in another thread I belive this is appropriate to have its own thread to gather ideas and suggestions on the subject)

My 3 (almost 4 Feb 17th) son has showed a great deal of intrest in snakes since he was 1 and showed intrest in them from the start watching them move around there tanks (as I didnt have a rack at that time) at 3 years old he could tell me when I asked which one was the Albino Green Burmese Python or the Albino Ball Python he can tell you and show you which one if the Mojave female Pastel Female Spider Female Or Pinstripe Male and so on
( I was pretty excited about that when he was trying to tell me which snakes where what) As when I gotten my first ball python I said you know this is something Him and I could share a common intrest in

Many may not agree with me on this but .... He know's the snakes eats rats and knows I pluck them in the head before feeding the Snakes Ball Pythons and well every day on feeding day he ask "Dad can I flick the rat and give it to the Mojave Ball Python or what ever one Im feeding at that time... I was researching Monitors and came across one eating live rabbits (small Rabbits) clicked on it and was watching it he came up and seen the monitor eat the rabbits looked at me and said Dad I want on of them that was awsome and started laughing before I could

Although My sons not allowed to handle the burms due to there size He does handle the Ball Pythons often and now has 3 Leopard Gecko's of his own after Christmas of this year we where sitting down watching a movie and out of the blue he looks at me and his mom and says with a sad sad face Momma Dad My just want a snake of my own thats not dadda's

It caught me so off guard and the way he did it I had NO CHOICE but to bust out laughing as cute as it was it was funny

So after giving you a little background and knowledge on the situation What would Other Reptile Keepers Think or how would you handle the situation...

Is there any harm If I do let him get his own Ball Python he can keep in his room?? I mean I understand that Im going to be taking care of it and helping him take care of the ball python as he's only 4...

What would you do??? Do You guys think it would be ok??

Me I honestly dont see any harm in it Im just looking for other's opinions or ideas on the situation

As always Thank You

I see no harm, my little brother was 5 and when I starting getting my first snakes he wanted one too, so we got him one, but it was a corn snake that I produced, not a ball python but this will still help.
I got him a 10 gal aquarium for viewing purposes, a heat pad, repti carpet, and a locking screen lid.
Now on the screen lid, I put a lock with a key to make sure he wouldnt get into it at all without me knowing.
Besides that, just helped him feed it and clean the cage, he was very happy with it.

Hope this helps,
Stephen

I would, but it would be in an enclosure that could lock up nice and tight :D
I probably wouldn't let him kill the rats or mice though. Just my preference.

Nick,

I dont Belive me He just ask's to almost everytime I feed and Yes a tank with a locking lid would be a must...

I'm not sure I'd let a 4 year old have a snake set up in his/her room, I have a 6 year old and I still won't for the snakes sake :)

I'd give him his own snake and keep it in your rack and let him ask to play supervised with his snake :)

I think it would be a wonderful gift for your son. Mine has had a 10g fish tank in his room since his first birthday (he's only two) and he enjoys watching his father feed the guppies and it has helped him learn new words. While not all children are the same, some are of a mindset that they learn quickly how to be "nice" to a pet (no banging on the glass!) and enjoy quietly watching them (Corbin can frequently be found standing in front of his tank and "counting" his fish). Eventually once the majority of the remodeling is done in the house I do plan on setting up a terrestrial natural habitat for Leopard Geckos in his new room and should he choose, I am very open to allowing him have his own pet ball python. :)

Indeed Stephanie I agree I belive as well it helps them not only educationally but also teach's responsibility as well...

I mean its not like Im giving him a 10 foot Burmese or a neotropical rattler many people I know in the hobby recived/got there first reptile/Ball Python at a young age...

Maybe it's becuase I really never had much growing up and I want him to have everything I didnt have or get when I was young plus more IDK...

Thats how I got into Leopard Gecko's He wanted one and naturally more followed LoL I mean he takes care of them fine and handle's them as well and is doing very good with them I see it as him wanting to expand... out to other things as well... IDK LoL

I think it's a great idea. I know when I was a yung'n my mom let me keep a speckled King I found. It helped teach me responsibility and respect for animals under my care. She didn't think, however, that I would continue owning snakes!

I think its a great idea my son has a gecko, sulcata tort, and a normal male ball, he takes care of them all himself with some aid it teaches them responsibility for them self and another living creature. my son is 8

Unfortantly I didnt get my first ball Python until I was 22... :( :(
And I feel like it would good for him as well and belive he would do Great with a Ball Python of his own and it would be a GOOD first snake for him as well being there extremely docile...
I just dont know what to start him with I honestly although normals are fine Id prefer to get him a Pastel, Spider, Pinstripe, Albino ( A single gene simple animal something a bit more eye catching than a normal) but then again its going to be his choice and Im going to give a few options to pick from...

I know this might sound bad, lol, but I would get him something you may like or would be able to use in the future just for the slim chance that he might grow out of it. I would definitely get him a morph so that way he doesn't feel like he got stuck with a norm or an "Average" one. Probably something that you don't already have so he feels extra special :D

I wish I had a snake growing up. I think I would be a lot further on in my hobby now. There's a kid around here that I buy and sell snake to sometimes and he already has his own snake room. It's the neatest thing. He has a bigger collection than mine and I think he's aroun 10 or 11.
