    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

The title pretty much says it all, I want to know what people do with there temps to get ball pythons in the breeding mode. I plan on breeding this year and want to see if i have to cool them also any tips as to what I should be doing now besides feeding them would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I do an 8 degree drop from 8pm to 8 am. Feed as much as they want building up to breeding. I then put males in for 3 days then give them 3-5 days off depending on their weight. They manage to do the rest all on their own. Best of luck

I do a 1.5 degree night drop (9pm-9am) all year round. 90/Day, 88.5/night.

temps stay at about 88 when not breeding, when breeding i drop tempts to usually 82-84,slow down feedings etc

Wow I'm surprised at all the different ways ppl actually do it, after reading online I didn't think that many people varied from the ways big breeders say

well i have not bred yet would have last year but males were to small but i did not change temps at all and all my females got folicles

I dropped temps quite a bit last year...I actually killed the heat on my male rack altogether for 7-8 hours each night for 3 weeks or so. My snake room is kept at 76-77, so that's what they were spending nights in October. I only drop female temps 5 degrees at night.

I never dropped temps before. Last season I decided to and had a super later season. This year (2011/12) - as the new season is just about already among us - I don't think ill be dropping temps at all. I might experiment with a few females and do a 5 degree night drop. Might not. We will see how things play out.

I don't think even the big breeders do it any set way. Really people experiment and use whatever method works for them. My opinion is that if you use 42qt bins your females can cool themselves should they need to and you'll see females wrapping water bowls and such. They are very smart and will do what they need to do to get the job done, if they're not ready they won't lay.

We didn't drop temps last year, and every girl we bred has either already laid or (in the case of one) looks like she's getting ready to. (That could also just be beginner's luck, as this was our first year.)

That being said, our snake room is naturally cooler during the winter months in the evening into the morning, which, in turn, makes the ambient temps of the tubs cooler. As Dustin mentioned, I did notice our girls moving from heat to the front, then back to the heat all on their own.

I don't manipulate temperatures for the snakes. I'm in an apartment currnetly, and the temp is set for my comfort, and the snakes all have warm spots in their enclosures provided.

I've never (knock wood) had a RI in my collection. The temp on the warm spot never changes year round, though ambient changes just based on natural temp swings in the apartment.

I've always kept my hot spot about 5 degrees less than what most caresheets recommend - mostly when I observed my collection preferring the cool end of the enclosure year round. When I made that change, they began to thermoregulate and spend more time moving between the two temp zones.

I recently visited with Justin Kobylka (who is local to me) and he said that this year he kept his collection cooler and he had significantly less follicle absorption.

It used to be you'd visit Justin and leave the snake building sweating. The last visit he had AC running in the snake building and it was comfortable for humans! LOL

I know that I breed at a much smaller level than Justin does, but I can say that I have about a 90% rate of the females I breed going for me each year. Coincidence with keeping them cooler and Justin's results this year? Maybe.......or, maybe we've all been keeping them too warm. Time will tell as more people experiment with their own collections.

I have experimenting with dropping and not dropping temps over the past few years and finally find what seems to work best for my animals.

The snake room is kept at 76/77 during the winter and the hot spot which is about 86/88 is dropped to 80 at night and night only during breeding season.

So far knock on wood I have never experienced any RI due to change in temps during the breeding season.
