    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The head of the Erie County SPCA held back tears while releasing a sad and stunning report on suspected animal abuse at the Niagara County animal shelter.

The scathing report is painting a very ugly picture of suspected animal abuse at the Niagara County SPCA. Barbara Carr's report claims the shelter's Executive Director, John Faso, showed little interest in caring for the animals. The report also points to a cruel method of euthanasia and that a lack of action led to death.

A "dysfunctional" board of directors. "Totally improper" procedures for euthanizing animals. Those are just a few of the serious concerns raised following Barbara Carr's examination. The 115-page report, which you can read in full right here, paints an ugly picture - and is highly critical of the Niagara County SPCA.

Carr spent three weeks investigating the shelter. She found a complete lack of standard operating procedures, that euthanasia due to space restraints was fairly common, and that when it comes to the use of controlled substances, records were inadequate.

Carr choked up while describing a procedure known as "intercardiac injection," a painful injection to the heart, she says, used to put down some animals.

"Animals, in my opinion, were given a shot which I'm sure hurt, of Rompun, and that caused them to throw up," said Carr.

Why would the shelter be allowed to stay open with such horrific things going on inside?

Carr responded, "It's a private, non-profit organization. It's not a government agency that can be shutdown. There are no guidelines in New York State for shelters."

Kathy Kachurek, who's volunteered at the shelter for a year and a half, says she's crushed by the report's findings.

"I just can't believe that people that are supposed to love animals would do this," said Kachurek.

Carr said, "If [residents] don't take part at this point, more animals will definitely suffer. It is really important that the citizens of Niagara County make this shelter their shelter."

The report recommends, among other things, that the board of directors should consider a complete restructure, that a mission statement be developed, and that each board member should stand for re-election.

Here's the report-

There is NO vet on staff there but they had a vet tech administering Heart-Stick euthanasia using Rompun.

Katey and I have joined the protests a couple of times to stop this crap!!

This vet tech is so screwed!!!

"§ 374. Humane destruction or other disposition of animals lost, strayed, homeless, abandoned or improperly confined or kept

3. a. Except as provided in subdivision four of this section, euthanasia of animals pursuant to this section shall be accomplished solely by means of injection of sodium pentobarbital or sodium pentobarbital solution administered by a certified euthanasia technician, a licensed veterinarian or a licensed veterinary technician. Euthanasia by intracardiac injection of sodium pentobarbital or sodium pentobarbital solution shall be performed only upon animals that are heavily sedated, anesthetized, or comatose. However, only a licensed veterinarian may perform euthanasia by intracardiac injection of sodium pentobarbital or sodium pentobarbital solution upon animals that are not heavily sedated, anesthetized or comatose and only when such licensed veterinarian determines that such intracardiac injection is the most humane option available. Whenever a cardiac injection of sodium pentobarbital or sodium pentobarbital solution is administered by a licensed veterinarian upon an animal that is not heavily sedated, anesthetized or comatose, such veterinarian must document, in writing, the administration of such injection and the reason for its administration. Such documentation shall be retained for at least three years. Under no circumstances shall intracardiac injection be performed on animals that are not heavily sedated, anesthetized or comatose where such animals are under the care of any duly incorporated society for the prevention of cruelty to animals, animal shelter, humane society or pound."

Not only is she NOT a vet, the animals were healthy and adoptable, she used the wrong drug and the wrong method. The animals were NOT comatose, sedated, or anesthetized.

Some of these animals were strays or lost which were euthanized as soon as they got to the SPCA, and the owners never had a chance to see if their pet was picked up.

I hope to God that they charge her with every single death, and give her consecutive sentences. With over 600 animals dead, she'll never see the light of day again!!

Thanks for sharing!

I've noticed lots of "non-profits' being started up, and I've noticed that lots of people start sending donations/money to these "organizations" without ever really investigating the people running it, or the business plan.:shrug01:

It's always sad when animals have to suffer because of greed and gullibility.:(

Niagara SPCA is hellhole

A report released Friday confirmed suspicions. The SPCA of Niagara is the Abu Ghraib of animal shelters.

The place was run by an incompetent director and backed by a myopic board of directors. They oversaw a badly trained, stressed-out and understandably mutinous staff. The tragic fallout of the human folly was countless adoptable animals who were needlessly—and with unnecessary cruelty—killed over the years.

I pity every stray cat, every unwanted litter of kittens, every pet—dog or cat— who outlived its owner’s affections and who ended up at this Haven for Hacks. The animals needed some saving grace. Too many instead found a killing field.

The investigative report from Barbara Carr, head of the well-regarded SPCA Serving Erie County, ripped the Niagara shelter as understaffed, poorly run and “chaotic,” with “abysmally low” adoption numbers. “There is no sense of structure ... and an overwhelming culture of distrust,” Carr wrote.

No, she wasn’t talking about City Hall.

The report is clear: The Niagara SPCA is a nightmare of worst practices, poor procedures, haphazard training and low morale. It is overseen—no surprise here —by a director who knows little about animal care and apparently has no desire to learn. John Faso, who was not at Friday’s news conference, and most of the board members are clueless even about Pet-Point, a basic-information computer program for any shelter. Carr said the program has a five-minute learning curve.

For any reform to start, Faso must go —and take most or all of the nine-member board with him.

Recent revelations by heartsick staff members brought the institutional abuses to light. The whistle-blowers deserve thanks from the community, plus a paw-shake from every Rover and Fluffy who might have entered these grim walls. Thanks also to Carr, whose independence was questioned by some, but whose let-it-rip report confirms her credibility.

Shining a light on abuses is the first step to reform. In the case of this animal hellhole, it had better be.

Unless this place is overhauled, no animal lover will write another donation check to the SPCA of Niagara.

Unless management is replaced and a new director—someone with no ties to the place—is hired, no pet lover will ever drop off a stray animal. Until staff is vetted and properly trained, no one will— or should—bring a dog or cat through the doors.

“There is no question there will be turnover on the board,” said attorney Paul Cambria, hired by the Niagara SPCA’s board to shepherd reform. “This is the time to fix things.”

The community’s trust lies beaten and bloodied. The ultimate victims were countless dogs and cats who were killed instead of saved. The victims were animals euthanized by the cruel and unusual punishment of a “heart stick,” which the SPCA’s Carr called an “extremely painful . . . awful” way to die. The victims were well-meaning staff members trying to navigate on a rudderless, Captain Clueless ship.

Against all logic, the shelter doubled as an animal control agency, a function usually done by municipalities. Apparently the money was too good to say no.

“Animal control and animal protection should not be combined in one agency,” Carr said. “You cannot serve two masters.”

The report marks an awful chapter in animal care in this community. Thanks to the staff members and volunteers who spoke out, the cavalry rode in. Thanks to Carr, the foundation for reform is laid. The job now is to turn a hellhole into a haven.

Niagara SPCA board fires exec. director

WHEATFIELD, N.Y. (WIVB) - Just days after a scathing report on suspected animal abuse, Niagara County SPCA Executive Director John Faso got his walking papers. He had been under fire since the allegations first surfaced at the shelter.

The 44-year-old Faso was terminated by the shelter's board of directors Monday afternoon. The meeting took place at attorney Paul Cambria's Williamsville office.

Cambria said, "They decided to terminate the executive director, and to immediately retain the services of an interim director. The judgment was to turn the page, and to have a new director, at least on an interim basis to put into place the various recommendations that were made by Barbara Carr."

Carr, the executive director of the SPCA Serving Erie County, released a report Friday, highly critical of the Niagara County shelter. You can read that report for yourself right here. It alleges animal neglect and questionable euthanasia practices.

She responded to Faso's firing, saying, "It's probably what had to be done to begin to move forward. It's unfortunate all the way around that things got as bad as they did. The buck stops with him and with the board. Certainly the board is every bit as responsible, in my opinion, as the executive director."

Cambria, who's representing the Niagara County shelter, says the board can't immediately replace the entire board. Bylaws and and an election, he says, are required.

"You couldn't just abolish everything because then there would be no one to do anything. Whether they will all resign eventually I think is probably a certainty. Whether any of them will run for an election in the future. Again, that's their decision," he said.

Cambria says he's working with others, including Carr, to find someone to fill the director's position on an interim basis. He says the board is hoping to have someone in place soon.

BULL-CHIT!!

If he didn't want to do his job, or didn't know how, he shouldn't have taken the $70K!!
