    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.
  • Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

More bad publicity!!!

LOL... I'm sorry, I can't take this as seriously as I should because the part about the prizewinning goose reminds me so much of that episode of Curb your enthusiasm...

I run a reptile rescue in Kissimmee, and frankly I'm glad they didn't bring it to me. They took it to the Serpentarium, which is a great place for it. I rescue pythons and very large snakes, but just don't have the setup for a large anaconda like that. Beautiful snake--makes me wonder who would release it rather than just take it to the Serpentarium or a rescue....what a shame.

lol yeah they killed it playing golf, straight WEAK! lol

but def. not funny at all about the large snake :ack2: crazy how people don't research an animal before buying it as a pet :rolleyes:

What I love is the automatic jump to conclusion that it was bought and released. With all the storms and houses and businesses destroyed in hurricanes and all in florida, I just have to love that the assumption each time is that someone bought it and released it. Most will try to sell rather than release. It just doesn't make sense that every time it is just automatically decided that this was a release by a irresponsible reptile owner. Makes me so dang mad.

It is not a "jump to conclusion" situation. It is official government policy. Truth and facts be damned.

How many Afrocks have killed people? I didn't think there were any reports of Afrocks killing anyone...and yet, there goes another so-called "journalist" spewing off crap they don't understand and don't want to.

It's sad how almost everyone is so ignorant about snakes. Even fellow grad students, when I showed them one of my ball pythons, asked if it was "poisonous," had fangs, had ever bitten me, and all manner of questions that showed they knew absolutely nothing about snakes. I mean, if these "smart" people buy into all the myths without question, how are we ever going to educate the general public?

oh yeah i've heard " but aren't you afraid they'll kill your dogs?" talking about my ball pythons killing my golden retriever and black lab, like the snakes just roam the house freely or something even if it was possible. Also just recently got into an argument about how snakes were evil because they killed mice. Then when i made the girl look stupid by saying "but you eating a chicken sandwich right now, why is the chickens life not important and you are not evil?" so she tried to save her self by saying that snakes represent satan and are evil and i should look in the bible. i had to walk away on that one.

Good lord.... ;)

Anyone here ever read Desmond Morris's Men and Snakes? Not bashing anyone's religion here, but both biological responses, taught and embred, and Christianity, are responsible for the overall hatred of snakes in general. The only animal that most people hate more than snakes are roaches. The blame in the hatred of snakes fall into many categories, but education, over many generations, is the only way to get people to not hate snakes, and even that is a doubtful proposition. And this comes from a person with 40+ snakes in my house (and I raise hissing cockroaches too---but hate it when I see a "wild" roach in my house, go figure).

lol well yeah i didn't want to go there but yeah that's some dumb christian nonsense!!! (and before i get bashed i was forced to be brought up christian, confirmed all that good stuff) but snakes represent satan and evil come on that's just ignorance. i mean i've never hit a girl but wow i wanted to slap her lol i had no choice but walk away!!

I'd say about half of it is our natural reaction to snakes (a survival instinct, if you will). The rest of the reaction is shared amongst several regions for many different reasons. Christianity isn't the only religion that does not look favorably on snakes. Then again, I'm Christian, and I don't believe snakes are evil. Satan took the form of a snake, yes, and the snake was cursed, but we were cursed too. The snake was one of God's created creatures, so it can't be evil in and of itself.

and that's the exact statement i left her with too, when i walked away!

WOW and as i typed that last response, the "12 foot anaconda that has been feasting on native ducks" just got ran on the local news here in VA at 6:30am :ack2:

Satan actually took the form of a serpent. Theologians debate that it was a dragon. Whatever form he took had LEGS. As after the fall, came the decree that he would crawl on his belly, etc.

I am a Christian and have kept snakes most of my life. Most of the fear of snakes is ignorance. Education is our job.

I do hate roaches though... Only thing I hate more would be ticks.
