    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

where do you order your bugs from?

I have been using www.reptilefood.com for a while. I can get crickets for $10 per 1000 there which i think is good, but the shipping is killing me. $21 to ship 3000 crickets. thats just too much, i am going to start looking for a new supplier...
anyone got any suggestions for a good cheap place to get crickets? then need to take American Express or Paypal though.

I use Timberline Fisheries, who owns Reptilefood.com. I personally don't think you should complain, I buy my crickets for $14.50 a 1000, plus pay just as much shipping as you. Mind you, this is from the same company, except I order over the phone! I've always been one to say you get what you pay for, and with Timberline I've been very happy with what I get compared to the toher companies. If I have any problems with them, they've always fixed them ASAP. Guess thats why I've used them since 1995. Everyone these days are always trying to get the cheaper price, what about the best quality and service? Did you forget about those?

didnt forget about quality and service, thats why i asked on here,if there cheap but there service and quality sucks, Im sure that the poster would post it as such. Im looking to see if i can get a little better deal and keep the quality and service

Holy crap. Try to find a local cricket farm with good quality. there are a ton of you guys in texas that should be able to help Terry out. The main thing about local (texas) farms, would be that they can ship overnight postal (then they can pass along the savings). You can negotiate with other companies to get shipping included. But, 10-11$ per 1000 delivered is about the max you should have to pay, with all of the same warranties (ghanns and armstrong will compete for your order if you stick with them, but you have to ask). The people up north have climactic issues that effect price, but you should not. I know you have animals that need the crickets other than geckos, but the geckos just do not need them.

For those in the northeast... I was buying my bugs from www.superwormfarm.com (Top Hat Crickets). I've been buying bugs from them for almost 12 years. Hardly any problems..If you do have a problem talk to them..they are very easy to deal with.

With our recent (next week) move to Florida..I'm in the market for a new supplier. Any suggestions?

I use...

I use Bassett's Cricket Ranch. I've been using them since early 2002. I've never had a problem with them, yet. (Knocking on wood) I've used a couple of other companies: rainbow (who charged 2 extra orders on the card and took forever to admit a mistake) and milbrook. Milbrook was great, but they couldn't seem to get crickets to me live in winter. I think some of that had to do with UPS shipping. They always honored their live delivery guarantee though!

Anyhow, I just got crickets this past Saturday. Here's the breakdown:

1 box Crickets 3wk: 500 per box(s) Full Box Unit Price: 7.50 Unit: 500 Amount: 7.50
1 box Crickets 5wk: 1,000 per box(s) Full Box Unit Price: 13.00 Unit: 1000 Amount: 13.00
1 FedEx 2day Unit Price: 18.18 Unit 1 Amount 18.18
1 Handling Charge Unit Price: 2.71 Unit: 1 Amount: 2.71

Subtotal: 41.39

BTW, it feels SO good to only need 1500 crickets a week now LOL. I was ordering up to 5000 a week back in 2002.

Edit: grr typos

I had been ordering thru reptilefood.com. I was content with the bugs and things were good untill I had some doa's. About half of my crickets died in transit. The shipping cost me $15 and I wasn't happy that I had doa's. I sent about 5 emails total, over about a 2 week period. No response at all. At the time there was a thread started on the boi about JB enterprises. I am now a happy and loyal customer. No website only phone orders but atleast I know I'll get to talk to someone if I do ever have a problem. $15 per thousand shipped for crickets. They are really nice people also. Here is a link to the thread. Link

I was just looking at LLL and there prices were $16.99 per thousand shipped! I haven't ordered crickets from them , but Ive ordered mealies and they came usps, they just left them on my mail box (were rural) and thats where I found them, which sucks, but thats typical usps!!! Other than that they were fine and I ordered online on sunday and they were here on wed.

I use Bug Co for the last 10 years and they are great. They are in Mn and that is were i live, but i know the ship.Give them a try.

Rose,

Luck lure Cricket farm sells boxes of 1000 for 11 each. if you buy 3000 or more shipping is free. They sell in florida only.
their quality is outstanding. oh and tell them Howard sent you.
352-787-5017 they have a toll free #, but i can't find it.
One thing when you have crickets come postal, it is best to have the cricket farm request "hold for pickup at the local post office". My route driver gets a little pissed when she has to deliver over 5 boxes.

thats where my old boss used to order from, i didnt realise that shipping was included, i know it didnt used to be.. i may give them a call, they always took care of us well when i worked there.

i order from grubco.. they are a bit more expensive than some of the other places but the qiality of feeders is outstanfing and well makes up for the little extra you pay

I could use a cheap cricket supplier. I normally only use mealworms, and I order from Grubco which is great when buying mealworms in quantity. But its been hard getting my geckos to eat enough mealworms to fatten up, so I will be purchasing crickets also...oy. And I could use something fairly cheap.

My only worry is parasites, I havent had a problem with them thus far...but now that I am using crickets, I wonder if I will. I hope not.
Is there a way to order crickets without the worry of parasites, or is that just a risk you have to take when dealing with crickets??

Anyway, if anyone knows of a cheap dealer, id only need like 1000-2000 per order, let me know. Im willing to spend $15 MAX for 1k-2k crickets shipped.

When I had bug eaters, I used the superworm farm as well. I never had a problem with them, even during really hot or cold weather. I used ground shipping from PA to NC.

I use Armstrong crickets out West Monroe ,La..You may pay a little more but they are the ONLY crickets I will use straight out of the box.I order on Monday and have them by Tuesday..Hey, You get what you pay for..They have great superworms too...

i have been useing reptilefood.com for about 2 years now and so far its been good, once in awhile i might find some dead but i just tell them about the order and maybe next time they can do something about it but everytime they seem happy enough to give me the hole order over again for free!. i dont really exspect that but theve been a good supplier for me. i always buy from them when i go to expos. and 95 to 99% of the crikets are alive. also i work at a petstore and we use armstrong crickets. we useuly get about 8 thousand a week. and from that we only get like maybe 7 thousand alive.. once when i ordered them they got to me with nothing in it! lol the stupid ups driver smashed the box and let them all out. so i dont know what happned to him but i got a full refund. i just thought it was funny that he had about 3 thousand crikets running all over his truck.

I also use reptilefood.com and the shipping isn't so bad for me. I get a 10 dollar discount on shipping because I order 10000 crickets a week. I have had the occasional doa's but I just shoot them an email telling them how many I believe are doa and they ship more than I ask for at no cost to me.

I use Ghann's for mealworms when I run out of the ones that I breed and they are really good and fairly cheap.
