Hey folks,
Lately I've been going back and forth with substrates as far as my Leos humid hides are concerned. Lately I've tried both Perlite, and the Eco-Earth/Forest bedding and have seen something that's kind of concerned me. In a few of the cages, I've notices that there are entire poopies that consist entirely of the humid hides substrates.. I've noticed both Perlite poos, and Forest bedding poops as well.
I've been thinking about using Forest Floor (cypress mulch) in the humid hides to see how that would go. The reason I was wanting to try this is because it is a larger grade subsrate that wouldn't be eaten, and it seems to keep the humidity in the hides a lot longer then the perlite and cocconut fibers do for me. What do you guys all think about this, Yay or Nay?
Also, has anyone else noticed their little ones taking bites out of the humid hide substrate? I've got a dish of calcium (rep-cal with D3) and Vitamin/mineral (herptivite) inside the enclosures at all times. I also dust my guys as I always have, so I don't think its somekind of a vitamin, mineral or calcium problem.
Any ideas would be appreciated muchas!
PS - The Humid Hides are all clear plastic tupperware containers. I was wondering if the geckos are inside the containers, see crickets outside and end up getting a mouthful of bedding thinking that they can indeed get ahold of the bugs outside of the humid hides?
