    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

how do you know she doesnt already have experience? and Im getting a diamond back for my first hot? I have no prior experience.
Call it a hunch, lol.

And if you have no training/experience - I wish you all the best when you eventually get tagged. I hope you at least have excellent health insurance, and formal protocols ready to go when the time comes. 🙂

None of that I just know how to handle snakes :), I get your worried but handling and keeping reticulated pythons I get is one thing but a western diamondback is nothing in comparison.

Sorry to break it to you not everyone gets tagged. I started with Atrox and specs and taught myself - no one ever showed me anything. Now I have 6 hots and have never been tagged......or even close.

"I have 6 hots and have never been tagged."

What you should have said:

"I have 6 hots and have never been tagged - YET."

You can't make the 'never' claim until you either stop keeping entirely, or you die (from some other cause).

Finally -- Sorry to break it to you, but I never said every singe person gets tagged. The vast majority do, though. And being inexperienced significantly increases the likelihood that it's going to happen (to the point where it's almost guaranteed).

I used to work with a 8foot retic before he passed and I never got bit unless it was feeding time and I never used tongs now i can only imgaine when feeding a venomous snake that you would just use tongs for safe distance, again i get your worried but please worry about your self please and thank you!

You're completely missing my point, lol. And just fyi - I'm not worried about you or telling you what to do. Frankly, idgaf if you get bit or not. I was saying that your logic is faulty, and that statistically you are almost guaranteed to get bit EVENTUALLY. I was also making the point that you can't go around bragging about never being tagged despite no real experience - when you're still new to the hobby. If you can still say the same many years down the line - when you stop keeping hots - THEN you can brag about having never been tagged despite no experience. But even then, you'd still be the exception. Not the rule.

Again, I'm not worried. I honestly don't care what you do. If you want a darwin award, have at it, lol. I'm just pointing out flaws in your logic, and stating what the statistics say - so other newbies who may see your posts don't get the wrong idea.

I repeat a previous remark: I hope you have good insurance and proper protocols for when you eventually get bit. 😂

Goddamn I feel sorry for the OP’s post I expect people be experienced when they contact me for my crotes but I don’t need to jump on people’s ISO posts when I don’t even know them or their experience yet. And in some states like California you don’t need top of the line insurance and it doesn’t matter if it’s your animal or not they will cover the entire bill

So what you're saying is that we should prioritize people's egos... And when those people end up in the hospital due to their own negligence - we should pass the bill on to the tax payers? Am I understanding that correctly?

For the record, all I said in my first post was that the OP should probably get some experience first. It was nothing more than a recommendation (key words being "should" and "probably"). SymbaCat kept dragging shit out because he was more concerned with bragging about himself than he was about trying to understand what it was I was saying. But I digress. Have a good evening everyone.

The only thing I see you prioritizing is assumptions and harassment on someone without asking them first.

OK ok ok, for the record I am not bragging or trying, I just dont get where you know me and know that Im only going to be another statistic. if you keep hots why arent you another statistic yet?

So again, you're saying we should prioritize the stroking of people's egos, and letting the taxpayers foot the bill for their negligence? You didn't actually answer my questions. Maybe start with that before you try to call me out for "assumptions and harassment."

Recommending that an obviously inexperienced person get experience before buying a deadly animal is a suggestion. It is not harrassment. Neither is pointing out faulty logic, like 'I'm a brand new keeper who has never been tagged, therefore the statistics are wrong.' Part of being a responsible member of the venomous community involves calling out blatant ignorance and inexperience. If that bothers you - well I frankly don't give a flying fuck.

Anyone asking for a payment plan on one of the cheapest animals in the hobby clearly has no experience, so I wasn't assuming. It's pretty easy to spot a complete noob. And fyi - he just told you that this would only be his 2nd hot, and the OP is his gf (who has no experience at all) helping him get one. So keep crying about my "assumptions and harassment." Dude just told you I was spot on, and he also admitted to being a liar. A few posts ago he had 6 hots. Now he supposedly has (or had) 1, and is looking for a 2nd. My bet is he's lying about that, too - because he knows no one is going to sell him one with no experience.

Before you respond - remember to answer my initial questions before you start in on the shit talk. The ones you conveniently ignored the last time I asked them. If you're not going to answer those 2 questions, then don't even waste your time responding. 😉

"I just don't get where you know me."

It's very obvious you have no experience, bro. People with experience don't ask for payment plans on snakes that cost less than $100.

"...and know that Im only going to be another statistic."

Again, you misunderstood. Just because something is statistically almost guaranteed, does not mean it is guaranteed. How do I know you're most likely going to get bit if you keep venomous snakes -- because almost everyone does eventually. A person who never gets envenomated during their entire time keeping hots is a very rare occurrence. Yes, it happens. But it's the very rare exception, not the norm.

"If you keep hots why aren't you another statistic yet?"

Who said I wasn't? I've been keeping for a long time. I grew up around snakes (including venomous ones). During my keeping 'career' I have been tagged twice (only 1 needed AV), and grazed once during assist feeding a baby after a fresh shed (resulted in an extreme allergic reaction).

You may think I'm being an asshole, and admittedly I could have been more polite... But my points are all valid... Statistically speaking, you're almost guaranteed to get bit if you keep venomous snakes. Not having experience makes it even more likely to happen. So I hope you have good insurance, and proper protocols. It may save your life some day.

Be well.
