    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

I've been having this intermittent issue for a few months, and Fauna is the only site I frequent that seems to be giving me this problem. Sometimes, when trying to load or refresh a page, I'll get the green background and the Fauna logo in the upper-left corner of the page; but that's all that loads. When this happens, there's always a small notification on the screen that says "Waiting for www.faunaads.com..." Refreshing doesn't help, nor does closing the browser and reopening it. The only 'fix' that seems to work is clearing out cookies and cache. I currently use Firefox; but IE was no better. It's also happened on both my former desktop as well as my current laptop.

In the several months that I can remember this happening, it was generally for fairly short periods of time - usually just a day, but sometimes up to a week. The frequency with which I need to do my 'fix' is pretty variable, also. Generally, I'd get a couple of hours before I'd need to do it again. Today, it's been about 30 minutes in between fixes. Despite knowing that I'm pure walking bad luck; I think there's gotta be others having the same issue. Anyone?

I get that every once in a while but without the 'waiting for faunaads' part and refresh usually will load the page, although sometimes I have to refresh a few times, this is when I use IE.

I wasn't sure if it was something that is due to fauna, the internet connection or where I am accessing the site. I know that doesn't help you but just something similar that I've seen happen so figured I'd mention it.

This is a big part of what's bugging the bejeezus out of me. I consider myself fairly tech-savvy, but I'm drawing a blank. I can refresh to my cold, little heart's content...doesn't help. Were it an issue with my specific internet connection, I'd think it'd effect more than just my ability to connect to this site. Were it an issue with Fauna itself, others would have had to complain about it by now. I just don't get it. :shrug01:

This is my second attempt at replying to you. What happened to the first one? Lost it when the problem decided to present itself right as I clicked "Preview Post". :angry: I'm gonna have to make a conscious effort to remember to copy all my posts before previewing or submitting. When you're as long-winded as I am, it sucks having to type stuff twice. :ack2:

About once a day lately I'll get a slow down, and I've never really pinned down what is causing it. I checked the processes running on the server and it seems like loading gets LESS when that happens, not more like you would expect. I've asked the server people to run a scan for intrusions, just in case a hacker might have gotten in and absconding with server processes for his or her own means.

I did increase the caching period on FaunaAds, just in case it might have been a little bit too tight. Might be when traffic is heaviest, there wasn't enough time for the cache to build the images before the next cache build needed to be done, therefore tying up sending the image display to everyone's browsers. It could also be that I have one or more advertisers using ads that are a little larger than I would like. :shrug01:

Heck, could be a network issue at the data center, or any number of things. Maybe an update was done on some obscure part of the server core routines that is hiccuping till the developers figure it out and fix it. There is a crazy amount of stuff that has to be running just right for this all to work.
