    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

I have a male/female adult pair Geoemyda spengleri available. $1750 plus shipping. Very rare and unique species.

They are LTC and have been treated for parasites. Not sure of the age but estimated 3-5 years based on size. Have not bred yet but should be able to within a year.

Have had quite a few messages about these but nothing confirmed yet. Please, serious inquiries only!!
 
So, they're recently smuggled, most likely illegally. I assume you have no CITES paperwork on them?

You say adults, but it was obvious in the photo that one specimen is not an adult.

Have you ever bred spengleri? Even more, have you ever raised recently smuggled juveniles to breeding size? Do you know how hard it is to acclimate WC spengleri and how long it takes juveniles to reach breeding size from personal experience?

Are these animals eating fruit or pellets?

Sorry for all the questions, but many folks have been purchasing recently smuggled spengleri lately and have had them die with nothing to show for it but their support of unlawful and immoral salespeople/flippers. This is your opportunity to answer to respond and show would-be buyers that you know what your doing. I really hope you do :)

I hate the common assumption that if you keep or have rare species for sale, then they're probably some black market flip...
People need to back off, save that for for the forum on kingsnake.com.
 
Thank you for getting involved in a conversation you know nothing about. I wrote a book on the species and have done quite a bit of research on the subject. Please feel free to do the same, then decide who should and shouldn't comment. This species IS being smuggled into the country RIGHT NOW, and I am sorry, but that matters to me. All I asked was for proof because it is common knowledge among informed people that this is a big deal.

I have watched this site, multiple times a day for 10 years, and have never said a thing. Unlike much of what you might be referring to, I waited until I really knew what I was talking about before I spoke up. And even then, despite my frustrations, I tried to keep things constructive and asked questions that the seller easily could have asked to show his knowledge so that potential buyers, like myself and the public, could get to know this seller and the animals a bit more.

He didn't answer. Point made. Congrats on the sale.

I welcome you, him, or any of you to talk spengleri any time you like. One day our hobby might be taken away because of how bad we look in classifieds. We chose turtles, and therefor need to care about their future and not our wallets. I really feel for and worry about anyone who doesn't agree.

Lastly, anyone being spengleri right now needs to get in touch with folks who know how to properly medicate, tube feed and otherwise acclimate the species. This is an issue right now. I have not heard of a legal importation of spengleri in the last 5 years. So be careful. These are the things we all need to be cognizant of, to protect ourselves and the turtles we love.

Ahoy Bone Daddy, here is my assessment of the recent spate of "LTC" spengleri. Just to give you some comfort, I have +/- 40 years experience with this species. I have hatched innumberable hatchlings, imported them, observed hundreds in the food markets in China and HK and was the first person in the US to ever have any, back in the late 1970s. When I pay for what is represented as "LTC" and I get DOA specimens, specimens with ticks, and specimens with algae on their shells, and do not know what and earthworm (nightcrawler) is, I conclude rater quickly that I have e been ripped off and these are in fact fresh imports. So to your point, my assumption is based on my own empirical data. Just saying...you know dude??
 
Just bought the book Anthony. Thank you for commenting. Completely agree with what you're saying. This is a beautiful species that I would love to work with in the future but I needed a good book for my research instead of trusting the Internet. It seems like CB babies aren't readily available in the pet trade as of yet. But that's okay. I hate smuggled animals and wouldn't trust myself or the imported turtles enough to spend $3,000 on a pair. We can't keep smuggling in endangered species because we are just furthering the problem. It's absurd for us to look at these animals as money instead of creatures in need of help and the establishment of assurance colonies in our country. I'm currently working with a group of cuora flavomarginata and intend to work with more endangered turtles and tortoises down the line. I will read this book and do more research on this species before I even consider buying some and I encourage everyone else interested to do the same!! Thanks again Anthony!

I get it. I've had my go at spengleri and species like galbs in the mid 90's...
I'm just saying that some people have kept them alive and bred over the years. I knew a guy that bred hardella for years but he never sold or wrote a book.
Every fly river and japonica is/was illegally imported at some point, so were bearded dragons and crested geckos.
 
We are on the same page, I think for sure. I remark all the time about japonica as well and always use the comparison to Bearded Dragons. But japonica came in mostly more than 15 years ago, and Bearded Dragons in the 80s or whatever it was via Hank Molt.

This is happening now. Right now. At a time when animal rights advocates and lawmakers are more educated than ever and when turtles are in a worse position than ever. We have a chance to show that we deserve to have these opportunities to work with animals for their good as well as ours! Not just openly exploit them. Eyes re on us. If fish and wildlife see this, and know that no legal spengleri came into the US in the last five years, your boy just admitted that these are smuggled. Good luck getting these when you need a CBW because they get listed on the ESA. Know what I mean?

And good luck getting your money back when they die because they've been living on paper towels, in an aquarium, being kept by someone who knows little about them. And even if the person knows plenty about them, they are a smuggled version of one of the most difficult to acclimate species ever, and if being sold under false pretenses, is just not good business.

I respect your opinions and appreciate the opportunity to have a public discussion. I hope this helps us all better understand the intricacies involved with this and many of our favorite species.

I respect this species too much not to raise these points, though.

Dear Captain Spaulding, a point of correction please. IN 2002 eleven G japonica were imported into the US and cleared. I have a copy of that 3-177 -) Please do not assume that ALL the japonica in the US were smuggled in.

I didn't say all japonica, did I? Can't find where I did. Actually, the best public information on how many came in comes from a CITES Report from 2013 or so that cites a turtle forum.com conversation, of all things.

Best thing to do is just get first hand info from people like you and Cris who actually lived this.

What's the name of the book and where can I buy it ?
 
Clarification on my message. The reason I said that I have 2 pairs it’s not to sell them or any of the offsprings. I just wanted to comment that they are not hard to reproduce to be honest I had struggle in the beginning on the correct temperature for incubation on the eggs. Again I’m not selling any of the offsprings or pairs . There is no money on the planet that would convince otherwise.
