    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

Hello All :)
I made up some slurry for the young albino female I had lay eggs..however, I have a ton of it, so I was wondering if I could give any of it to my healthy leos or to the females I intend to breed as a "boost." Is that ok, or is it better off as only used for geckos who need weight?
Thanks!

its really stressful to be shoving somehting in a geckos mouth and then squeezing it on top of that. i wouldnt reccomend it.

its a mixture usually consisting of vitamin powder, water and depending on who you are, i use high protein cat/dog food from my vet. then feed it to them through a syringe. they dont enjoy it in my epxerience

In a blender, combine:
1 small can Hill's A/D pet food (available at most vets)
1/4-1/3 cup Ensure (not chocolate)
1 jar baby food squash
1/4-1/3 cup Pedialite
2 tablets or contents of 2 capsules milk thistle (herbal supplement, liver purifier, found at most drug stores.)
1/2 tsp. each calcium powder and herp vitamin powder
1 large handful of mealworms, added slowly while mixture is blending

Puree all ingredients until completely smooth, and pour into ice cube tray(s) and freeze. Store cubes in zip-lock bag in the freezer until ready to use, then thaw out 1 cube at a time and store in fridge for 2-3 days. I use the empty baby food jar for this purpose, washing it thoroughly after each batch.

Using this mixture, draw a full dropper (eye dropper type) and place a drop on the gecko's nose. It will lick it off, and as it does, slowly squeeze out a little at a time. Most geckos love this food, and will lap it up. Feed them as much as they will take a couple of times a day.

It doesnt sound like you have to shove anything in the geckos mouth do give the slurry. Unless you're force feeding the leo, it doesnt sound stressful to me:shrug01:

Mine doesn't seem to mind it at all, actually..she licks it right off the dropper. I was just more concerned if the overload of vitamins and whatnot would be at all detrimental to healthy geckos.

I also think it's best to give credit where it is due. Since it was copied and pasted here. I believe that the creation of this slurry is credited to Marcia McGuiness of Golden Gate Geckos.

Well you beat me to it! LOL! Yes it is Marcia's recipe.

I have used Marcia's recipe as well (thank you Marcia :) ). The best way to keep excess slurry is to freeze it in an ice cube tray. You can then simply take out ice cubes and thaw them as needed. In my experiance geckos love the slurry. If you are not feeding them forcefully I wouldnt see a problem with it, however I think it is best to let them eat dusted, gutload live food.

If you have extra ill take it

Going to invite your mother-in-law over for dinner? :hehe:

I'd go along with freezing the excess in ice cube trays. It's also possible to use it as a treat once in a while, specially the girls during breeding season but I wouldn't give it to them too often (maybe once after each clutch).

I might have to try that slurry. I have a young 5 month female that is aggravating. I can't get her to eat. She has no appetite, maybe the slurry will kick start it?

Yes, not only does my slurry help non-eating geckos, but I also give it to my egging females as a 'boost' and they love it!

You are absolutely right that "shoving something in a gecko's mouth" is not a good idea! Force-feeding will only stress the gecko further and only prolongs the anorexia, and should only be used in life and death situations with a stomach tube. If you read the directions on my recipe, you will see that by putting a drop on the gecko's nose and letting it taste it, they will quickly start lapping it... in some cases gobbling it up, as a little at a time is squeezed out.

Sorry, I knew i was forgetting something :eatpointe

yeah well i tired that when my male was sick and he wanted nothign to do with it and had dropped odwn to 30g. which didnt work for me either. so i had no choice but to stick it in his mouth and squeeze. hes doin good nwo though

Marcia's slurry is meant to just be dropper fed. I am doing this with a couple of leos at work. It's exhausting work but the pay off is nice :) It's always nice to see the little babies with food in their tummies!

If you need time to collect all the supplies for this, but need to start dropper feeding asap I would get a small container of veal baby food and a small container of squash baby food (one extra since your there and you need one for the slurry) mix it in equal amounts and use that. Marcia also recommended this to me.

What was it Marcia? Was the veal a gentler protien than most, and squash helps bind to the intestines? Was that it?

Yup! The veal is easier to digest, and the squash is a great carbohydrate that stays in the intestines a little longer.

I've whipped up this little concoction myself and let me tell ya it's saved a lot of animals aside from geckos. The sick leos that I used to deal with at a pet store I worked at years ago just loved it. I'd start by putting a drop on there nose and when they go to lick it up start pouring it on and they'll usually take it on their own.
