    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Once again in need of help.

Thanx Bill.

And Cat, you're making me blush... stop it lol.

here's some pics I just went and took to give an idea of how thin this guy is. You have to keep in mind that this snake is almost 4 ft. And is only about 3 fingers with flat on his belly. You can feel where his ribs meet his spine. He does not move. It's so sad cuz he doesn't even have the energy to move around. I had to put him to his water bowl for him to drink. but he did like he's never had something to drink. So sad. But I gave him a little bit of vitamins with his food. But just that time. I don't want to give him more than he needs and do more harm than help. But here they are. the one with my hand is show you how skinny he is. He absolutely no girth at all.

I wasn't recommending. I know I can't help but without saying that then how would I have just learned NOT to soak a Snake with an RI. :) Informative stuff here. If the Snake didn't have an RI then wouldn't it be ok to soak especially when emaciated? It seems to me though that Balls (at least I've read this a lot) get RI's a lot. Like there touchy to get it. Like its one of the first things they'll get sick with when kept improper. Ok, just thinking out loud. I'll shut up now. lol Keep us up dated. I like learning about health issues thats why I butt in. Sorry.

Oh, I just saw the pics. lol I can see what your talking about now. I read that their supposed to grow around a foot a year. Well for a four foot Ball you can see that the poor Snakie doesn't have enough girth. When I saw the one I saw it was just a baby and the best visible sign I saw were all the neck wrinkles. Girth on a baby ya know. You could see the Spine to. Nice pictures for what you were trying to show. Very informative stuff here. I think Snake Rescues are at least one of the harder Reptile Rescues, not like I've had a lot of experience but something tells me their not as easy as the Leos were to learn about and treat.

Oh we all know you are learning. So am I. You never stop learning. The average person learns at LEAST one new thing every day. The things is whether you take that new knowledge and apply it.

But as far soaking. You never really need to soak a ball, unless they are having an issue with shedding. But even then, now mind you balls should have a water bowl that they get their in and submerge when needed, BPs will pretty much soak on their own when and if they need to. But you should start getting concerned when they constantly soak. That can be a sign of a few probs. To high of temps, mites, ticks and so forth. All of which are simple to treat.

But yes balls do get RIs, but as you said WHEN they are not properly taken care. Or if they by chance get exposed to it. My vet explained to me once that the bug that causes RI's in balls and boids, is basically the same that effects us when we get a cold or congested. And handling the snake when you are sick they can get it from you.

Ball pythons are labeled as "starter snakes". But highly disagree. Not saying they are for experts, but they are not as hardy, say as a rat snake. Balls can have a host of problems when not properly taken care of. For example, urine burn can occur when their cage is not cleaned as it should be. Fungus growth on the body when the cage is too moist or humid is another. There are too many to list. People write whole books and web pages on this stuff. In my opinion, you cannot buy a ball and just stick it in a cage and just let sit and look pretty, and expect everything to be hunky dory. I monitor my snakes temps, health, feces, cage cleanliness, humidity, shed, water cleanliness.... and so on and so on at least 2 or 3 times a day. I genuinely love and care for my snakes. I try and put myself in their place, and think what if that was me in there? Ya know? I keep my enclosure like I keep my own living space. Clean, sanitary and comfortable and accommodating. It's how I want to be treated, and live, so why not provide that for them when they cannot do it for themselves being they are in my care? Anyways, I don't want to look like I'm writing a book. I 100% fully admit I'm just a novice at this. And I probably wouldn't have been able to know all this and learn the husbandry for these creatures if it wasn't for my fellow herp enthusiast here.

Holy cow, he IS thin!!! He didn't look that bad in the first pics....poor thing.

He's damn lucky you got him when you did.

I can't stand it when people don't take care of their animals. We see that so much with "easy to care for" animals like cats & dogs. As some of you know I want a BP, BUT I know I need to get everything ready for it AND I'm reading everything I can about them... books of course and this forum has been really helpful. My s.o. has had a ton of experience with different types of lizards for YEARS, but neither of us has owned a snake. We want to know what we're doing first and of course get something we like.
I think people who treat their animals like this should get the same treatment and see how it feels. Oh and lock them up in a different country so they can't even communicate their needs/wants.

Ya Cat. It breaks my heart. I just got home from work, and checked on them. I ahd to wipe them both down just now. You see in the pick he's pretty straight and hanging, but he's kinked up like he's trying to pull himself up. But he doesn't have the strength. Makes ya wanna cry. Sorry I'm very soft hearted. I hope he makes it. He's so weak. I hope the small rat I gave him did him some good. I put some Rep-Cal into the belly of the rat with a syringe to give him some extra calcium and vitamins. His body will probably soak it all up. It's gonna take a while for him to come around I can tell. I spoke with my vet and he said his concern with the undernourishment is calcium deficiency and future problems with his bones. He explained to me that even later after he's fattened up, he may have a host of problems in the future from this episode. Oh just to let you know, being my vet is such an honest and good guy, he's not going to chareg me too look at the eye. He also said right now it's not the major concern. Like you said. He is only going to look and nothing else. He said the snake being so weak he does not want to stress the snake out more than he has to be messing the eye at the moment. He said to just ride that one and wait and see what happens with the next shed.

Bullfrog. I think you'd be a wonderful owner. Inexperianced yes. But so am I. If you need help with a setup let me know. I'll send you pics and details of how I do my healthy snake setup. Works wonderful for me. And they seem to really like it too.

Oh on a better note.... I just came about owning a perfectly healthy baby pastel. Only a couple weeks old ;) Very curious little fellow he is. Here's so pics. He's is o vibrant and bright. This awesome sunburst orange on his sides and a neon green down his back with an orange belly. And some reduced patterns. Absolutely precious little fellow. He is the sweetest thing too. Lol. I sound so girly. I did mention I am a guy right? hahaa

Aawwwww! I have to admit Balls are so darn cute. Maybe its the cute little head or how they ball up. To cute! :) Kisses for the cuties.

Ty.........can I ask where you got that pastel?

Maybe it's the pics, but it looks awful "normal" to me.

Here's one of my hatchling pastels...see if I can get the 2 pics together to compare...

I got him from a local person. Don't remember the name. But she said he was an orange pastel. I dunno, is their such a pastel. Like I said I'm a noob hehee  . Even if he isn't he's still precious ;) I don't love one ball more than any other. But I do have to say I think it's my camera. I dunno the colors come out different or maybe I'm just a sucky photography lol. Cuz my vet told me the other one with the stripe down her back.... the one I showed you before is a granite. And so is her sister. Just less pattern and less speckling. He said his bet would be it was 100% het granite rather than actual granite. Here remember this one?

when I said 100% granite I meant the sibling of the granite.

ya, thought the pastel was a normal. But I had high hopes. Guess I'm just gullible. lol.

Now here's some edumacation.... yes I meant it spell it like that. There's a guy that has an add on the classifieds. http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/pp_classifieds/showproduct.php?product=30879

And that snake, is pretty much identical. Same coloring, but mine has more blushing. Mine also has the belly and tail markings like his. And that is not a normal. So..... question is..... his is not a normal. What makes mine a normal? And his not? Besides proof of genetics.

A "het" animal is known to carry the gene to produce a recessive trait (pied, albino, etc) but their appearance is that of a normal. In other words....everything BUT that animal's genetics is normal, lol.

I guess I should add...

*A 100% het (as the one in the ad) is KNOWN to carry the recessive gene, the product of pairing a visual (homozygous) animal with another animal not homozygous for that recessive trait
*A 66% (possible) het is the product of a 100% het to 100% pairing that appears normal, therefore statistically, it would have a 66% chance of carrying the recessive gene
*A 50% (possible)het is the result of a 100% het to normal breeding, therefore statistically would have a 50% chance of carrying the recessive gene

Did I completely confuse ya now? LOL.

lol... not really. I understand the parts about the hets. I going on what I read about visual markers. Though I've been reading a lot about it being debunked. But anywho.

I just got back from the vet. And well good news. They got cleared for all parasites. But they got a deworming just in case. Clear of any mouth rot whatsoever. As far as the RI goes. He said they are showing signs of it passing. Cuz I described how bad it was. I told him about bubbles coming from their nostrils and all. The bubbling around the mouth and so on. He took a look and said the nostrils are clearing up. They're a ways away from getting over it completely. But he said that being that the mucous is drying around the mouth and there's no more actual congestion in the nostrils, that I was doing good with what I was doing. He said they will be back to normal pretty fast at the rate they are going. And to just keep doing what I am doing. He said they do not need any antibiotics as of now. And he also made a comment that he believes these people never gave them any antibiotics. And if they did, that's all they did to treat it. They didn't do everything that was needed to help them get over it. He said also being they are eating that is a wonderful sign of recovering. Oh and hahaa.... he made a comment under his while looking at the underweight one.... "I'd punched the bastards that did this to this snake." I barely heard him, and said "what you say" and he started and turned around and blushed, and told me "Sorry, never mind." hahahahaa.... The vet said there is no reason that snake should be that thin, that he's seen worse by far, but still if the snake is eating in my care..... there is no excuse.

Now here's for the interesting part. He told me the dark one without the yellow orange or red pigments is an anery. I think I need to find a local breeder near me that would be willing to look at them in person. Anyone know of any in VA?

Here's a couple more pics I took. I dunno. What's your opinions on the anery subject? I've read a couple post on the subject elsewhere. Others seem to say it doesn't exist as far as a morph. Or rather it is unproven. I dunno.... Now all this here........ now that confusing. lol.

So your vet tested them (negative) for internal parasites, and treated them anyway. Told you that one snake is a granite...or maybe just a het granite, and the other is an anery? AND that snakes can catch respiratory infections from us? :erm:

Yeah pretty much except one thing. He said one is a granite and it's "sibling" is a het being from the same clutch. Like I said I think I need to specifically see a breeder in person. How is it a ball python with no reds yellows or oranges a normal? Like I said I'm new at this and asking as many questions as I can without pissing people off. I'm not claiming anything. I just want other's opinions.

On the internal parasites. I asked him if it would be ok to treat it just in case. He said sure. That it wouldn't be harmful.

Thanx
