    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

im thinking of getting a new boaphile cage for my ball and was wondering if anyone suggests anything i should get and anything i NEED to get. i was looking at the 421 with the 1.5 heat element and was wondering if i should get the radient heat. Also, i have a rheostat so should i get a thermostat also? its 100 or 190 for one and i dont think i would need one with my setup. Its just my one snake. could i get a tree branch in there for him to move around on? anything else i should consider? i live in reno nevada so it snows here and i try to keep the house around the 68-76 range year round.


i was also looking at show case cages as an alternative. yea they are more money but they look a lot nicer then just a plane black/grey cage. personal preferance.
 
Hi, I would highly recommend a boaphile cage over a custom setup, they don't look as nice, but the heat and humidity retention is best bar none. I always go with 2x heat with a four ft cage. Get the underneath and not the built in. It is cheaper and easier to replace in the event of a breakdown. I recommend the thermostat, but a rheostat will work, it just will not adjust for the heat of the room.

ok. thanks. i usually keep the room around the same temperature. other than heating is there anything i NEED to add on or should have? i thought about fluorescent lighting as a personal preferance and i still cant decide between 3 or 4 black hinges. probably 4. maybe a lock in the center in case i still have a snake when i have kids. never know what might happen.
 
The lock isnt a bad idea. I have never had a problem with the hinges, so I don't believe an extra is necessary. Lighting is probably a bad idea. Having a cage act like a giant hide box is a great concept. The snake will feel more secure with less light. Alot of people like big lighted cages for their snakes, but a person's preference should not be what is important with a snake cage, it is the snake's needs. Just a little rant, not directed at you at all. With snake cages, I have found the simpler, the better.

even with the hide? how else is he going to get light? just trying to plan in case the room i decide to put him in does not get direct sunlight in the future. maybe get night/day lights and program them to switch every 11 or 12 hours. i would imagine he would be ok with it if he had enough hides.

If the cage is in a room with a window, you really don't need the lights. He doesn't need direct sunlight at all. Even then if you put it in a room with no windows, it would be better to run a light in the room and not directly in the cage.
 
ok. sounds good. would you reccomend the uth or radient heat source?

i always see the bulbs for sale lots of places i go that claim to give the snake essential vitamins or they are better for night time viewing.

UTH are great for snakes, just get a good thermostat or rheostat to control it.

Ball pythons don't need UVB or UVA like some reptiles do. Putting the light in the cage would be a waste of money, IMO.
 
I just got 3 421T's in today. I always get them with 1.5 belly heat becasue my room doesn't get too cool. Usually around 75-78*. Black hinges because they look nice. Dual locks to keep kids out, and a flourescent light. I don't use the light much but at least it is there in case I do want to use it. It also helps to have the light during cleaning time. The flourescent light doesn't put out as much heat as the incandescent lights but they still get warm and tend to heat up the cage.
 
ok thanks everyone. so i guess i dont need the radient heat panel. what about humidity levels? what should i expect to see in nevada with just a water dish in it? 40-50%? do they maintain their levels pretty well?
 
i was looking on the kingsnake forum at some that people build and sell for around 250 with free shipping. are these any good? 1/2 inch material. believe it was plastic/pvc. are these the same as a boaphile? how is boaphile on customer service?
 
On my recent order of three 421t's that arrived the other day, the UT heaters were in the wrong location. The 421t's have a divider down the middle so you can keep two animals, so the heater is placed in the middle. Instead, the heaters were all on one side meaning that one animal would get all the heat while the other wouldn't get any. Jeff, sent out three new heaters the same day and I will just stick them on myself. That's $90 dollars worth of heaters plus shipping that didn't cost me a thing to make the situation right. I gotta give them credit for good customer service on that one.
I have learned however that if you need to talk to them for any reason, give them a call. Alot of e-mails go unanswered.
 
well thats cool. what about the incandescent light? should i need one of those or will the heat panel be enough? im thinking of a 421 for my ball with fluorescent lighting, even though they dont need it, 3 black hinges and two latches (havent decided if i want a lock or not). living in reno it snows here and right now i have a heat lamp to keep the temps up and i have a rheostat to control the temp/timing. keeps its just where i want it on both sides of the tank. right now i think my order is around 260 which isnt bad. just wondering about temperature control.

thanks for all your feedback by the way. i started looking at them again and cutting out a lot of things i thought i needed/wanted.
 
What are the temps in the room that you keep the snakes in? The flourescent light puts off a fair amout of heat. If you are going to do any lighting, I would go with the flourescent. The incandescent may put off too much heat. The Boaphile enclosures are very efficient.

My room stays between 74*-78* and I can easily keep the snakes at 90* on the hot side with ambient air temps around 82* inside. Just be sure not to place your cages against an outside wall.

I'm using a Spyder Robotics Herpstat thermostat and it works great.
 
hmm....well right now it IS against an outside wall, its almost impossible NOT to have it that way where I'm living right now unless it was in the bathroom. The whole place stays between 68 and 78 for the whole year. right now they will be 68-70 unless i get too cold during the day or the tank temps drop too much. the tank stays at 78-82 on the cool side and 88-91ish on the warm side.

I WAS looking at the flourescent light as an additional heat source for when it starts to snow here. If the heat panel puts off enough heat I might not use it. I was thinking of getting the 2x and maybe connecting that and the light to a thermostat to control the temperatures.
 
i just put one together and with lighting, 2x heating, 3 black hinges and a thermostat it was $385. better start saving
