    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

My First Beardie

Hello

Hello Amber,

Oh boy good thing you caught that when it happened! It melted it like that so quickly? How did the background come off, just peeled off?
Did you ever find the cricket escapee? Your daughter is scared of them? Well, they are a bit scary sometimes, especially the larger ones! LOL
Great Tobias is shedding. Oh they definitely shed at that age, he will have a full body shed, & it is pretty neat looking too.
You can bathe him to keep him hydrated to help him out with shedding. Other than that, he shouldn't have any problems with it. He is growing quickly then.
Did he have a good time outside today in the nice sunshine? I bet he did pout just like a kid does. They are so funny. They will do anything to get their way & get more attention from you too! LOL

Tracie

No, I wasn't able to get him outside. Harmony's fever came back at 102.9 so I took her to the E.R. Room and turns out she's got a bad case of Strep Throat. :( At first, they were thinking it might have been something caused by Tobias. Since all her stuff had started at the same time I got him....but thankfully it was ruled out. *wipes forehead in relief*

The background isn't stuck to the back of the tank. It is wedged between the bottom and the top of the tank...but I guess a small part didn't go back into place when I cleaned it, so when he jumped on it, it might have fallen. Other than that, I have NO CLUE as to how it fell.

It seems that other than his tail, he's done shedding...unless it goes in steps. I don't know. I took him out and let him run around our living room for a bit again today, and it seemed the only spot with skin left loose was his tail. I put him in a bath and then spritzed the fake leaves in his cage some that he sits on. Hopefully that helped.

Yup it melted THAT quickly! It was weird.....then again, I don't know how long it was like that either...so it might have had adequate amount of time sitting under there.

Hello

Hello Amber,

Oh sorry to hear about Harmony. Strep throat is NO fun. It is highly doubtful it was from Tobias. You can get worms, parasites or salmanella if you do handle feces & don't wash your hands properly then put your hands to your face or mouth though. So just make sure she is practicing good hygiene & she will be fine.
Too bad he didn't get to get outside though, I am sure he will be anxious to get out soon!
He probably knocked it loose by trying to climb on it, or something. Did you secure it better now? You definitely don't want a fire! I am glad you caught that, it happens fast with those lights.
Good he is basically done shedding. The tail is usually the hardest area as the tips seem to like to try & stick & retain. Just make sure the humidity is 30-40% or so in there & baths help alot as well. If it is being stubborn, just use a bit of olive or mineral oil on the tip & that should help it out.

Tracie

Yeah I know the strep throat didn't come from Tobias. They were thinking something else before the Strep was the confirmed culprit. :D I have 2 mice, so hand sanitizer is used religiously in my home on top of hand washing. :D She's used to it by now.

Yeah, I got the background secured much better now. So hopefully it doesn't fall anymore. I just have to keep an eye on it when I clean from now on.

The skin on his tail came with no problems. :D I saw small bits lying around his tank. Today I'm doing a full tank cleaning....so I hope he enjoys his time out while I do it. Haha

My moms boyfriend is going to take a look at the screen on top of the tank and see if he'll be able to make it smaller for me so it actually FITS the tank.

Well, I need to go get him some crickets so he can have breakfast. Will keep you posted!

Hello

Hello Amber,

Great your daughter is very good about handwashing, etc. Is she doing better now?
Is the background staying put now I hope?
That will be nice to actually have your tank's lid fit. That is annoying you can't find one to fit it. Good luck with that!
Did you get Tobias some crickets for breakfast? Great the shed is coming off well now. I figured that it would. It is the hardest part to come off.

Talk soon.
Tracie

Daughter is getting better, still has some time on meds though.

We went to a bait shop here in town yesterday that sells some Bearded Dragon supplies, but his cricket providers shipped in the wrong sized crickets....so he won't have any Tobias' size until Friday. And the ones I ordered STILL haven't arrived yet. So I picked him up some wax worms in hopes of holding him off until tomorrow.

I also went to my grandpa's house and caught some wild crickets...at least I know they are 90% or more safe there opposed to where I'm at. But for some reason, he doesn't really like the wild crickets, they are too quick and he gets agitated having to chase them so he stops after 3 or 4 at a time.

The wall is sturdier now. I need to shovel more sand under it so it's sitting a bit tighter, but other than that, it's doing good. I don't want it too tight otherwise it's hard to get off and catch crickets that have lived for another day without messing everything up. I think I cut it too short when I got it.

Hello

Hello Amber,

Great your daughter is getting better, strep is miserable!
Oh no, Tobias has no more crickets until the end of the week? That is fine, the wild crickets will be ok I suppose for short term. Don't give too many waxies. You can try some moist dragon bites, they have some protein that would help out. Do you pop off the back legs of the crickets, that really really slows them dow alot! That would help him out.
Good the wall is sturdier now, after you fixed it. Hopefully, it will stay put for awhile. :)
I hope he is doing well.

Tracie

I just wrote to the guy I ordered my crickets from asking where they were. I'm starting to get pretty upset with it but don't want to have to ruin his feedback if it can be handled civilly. If I hear nothing or receive nothing by tomorrow, I'm going up to the pet store and picking up more crickets and those dragon bites like you recommended.

I got a question....the shop that we went to that got the wrong sized crickets in, they have a 3 year old bearded dragon. They kept him because he had a lump on his neck, so they didn't sell him with the other batch. They've had him in river sand, and only a heat lamp ever since he was little. They didn't buy any types of uvb-a lights, or a nighttime light, or anything of the sort, yet, he's extremely healthy. Normal vet visits....is that a good thing? Or were they just lucky?

I meant to say is that possible to do or were they just lucky. Drat not being allowed to edit posts...:p

Hello

Hello Amber,

That is frustrating about getting the correct crickets!! Did you hear anything today at all from that guy? Or, did you have to go to the petstore to pick something else up? What a pain in the butt.
Well, why did the dragon have a bump on his neck? I highly doubt that the 3 year old dragon is extremely healthy. Can he walk upright? I would be very surprised if he doesn't have weak bones though. Sometimes it is hard to tell just by looking at them. Why would they not want to provide the basics to him though, that isn't right.
Chances are that he had UVB prior to their care. How long have they had him for? He will eventually succomb to health problems being kept in that manner though. They will not last long without UVB. They thrive in the wild in sun so my argument for good lighting is always why deprive them of what their native habitat provides for them?

Tracie

He stood upright, I didn't see him walking since he was basking. I don't know why he had the bump on his throat, he was born with it. The guy has had him since he was 6 weeks old.

A school teacher had a beardie that got pregnant and he was going to give students who wanted them, a dragon each to take home, but the school year had ended before they were hatched. So the guy at the bait shop took all of them and sold all but the one because of his "deformation" I guess I could say.

I eventually got the crickets I ordered, along with an extra 1K of them, so now I have about 1.5 K crickets in a 10 gallon aquarium. It works, for now. I got to figure out how to clean it though.

Toby is gaining weight. At least, I think he is. I have a postal scale I'll eventually put him on, just haven't gotten around to it. But just from picking him up, you can tell he's put on a bit. still won't eat his veggies though. Oh well.

He finally got out after 2 weeks the other day. I kept him out for 2 hours before it got too hot to take the kids out (was babysitting)

Then I let him run around the apartment for a bit. He didn't feel much like running though. He went to this spot between my t.v. stand and a bookcase, under a table where I keep a 4 picture frame holder and he plasters himself up against one of the 2 front pictures. Don't know why he does that, but he goes there every chance he gets. I guess since it's dark and it's away from the activity that is not under there with him?

Hello

Hello Amber,

Great that Toby seems to be doing better now! I am glad to hear you got your crickets ordered, finally! The store never got them in? You should definitely keep track of his weight just so you know how much he weighs.
Hm, a 10 gallon & you have over 1000 crickets in there? You might want to get a larger bin, like a large plastic storage bin which are tall with the folding lids on top, but the lids are attached. You know which ones I am talking about? You can get them from walmart. I am not sure what the gallons size are, maybe 18 or 20. They are really nice to keep crickets in though. If they are too crowded, they will die off. So you might want to consider that. Make sure you have plenty of paper towel rolls, & egg carton crates (the paper kind) for them to climb & hide on.
Great he got 2 hours of sunlight! I bet he enjoyed that, before it got too hot for him anyway.
They have the tendency to try & find places to hide or play in. They love going under things, so you really have to watch them when they are out roaming around. He is just chilling out. No worries, just having fun. :D I think that they do things like that just for our entertainment. LOL
I still don't see how that poor dragon in the store is surviving without proper care, that is very sad.
Glad to hear he is doing better now.

Tracie

I weighed him today and it came out 0.5 ounces...which would be.....*does math* around 14 grams...that seems a bit small to me....is it?

He got to go outside again today. This time I let him roam around in the grass instead of being in his container which he's starting to get too tall for.

He's gone through most of the crickets now....and I'm fixing to let some loose outside when I go to clean out the tank they are in..so I'm not too worried yet. I do have a plastic container though just in case.

Got a couple new photos of him. The first one is of him on a vine we have growing around our ceiling and walls...it's half way around now, and the second one was from him outside today.

Hello

Hello Amber,

How old is he again? Well, 14 grams isn't too bad. How long is he again?
He should be getting the opportunity to have feeders 2-3 times a day, well, at least 2 anyway.
When were you upgrading your UVB light? Great you have been able to take him outside though because that really helps alot!
I think he looks fine, no problems. Don't worry, he should start to take off soon. Toby looks very cute & alert as well. :D

Tracie

I have no idea how old he is....I bought him from PetSmart...all I know is he is a Juvenile....I will measure him next time I have him out though. Is there any way to tell how old they are just by looking?

The light will have to wait until around November or December to be upgraded....but until then, he's been getting his outside time. Since it's cooled off a tad bit, I've been able to keep him out longer than a half hour.

He gets fed 3 times a day if you don't include the veggies. On occasion it's twice a day.

He's def. alert. He was hunting some bug outside from across the yard. I was letting him roam out of his container (as the picture above shows) and he took off real quick. What's the speed of a bearded dragon? I was afraid he had crawled into a hole. But once I got to where he was, he had flattened himself into the grass, and I picked him up. That's when I saw the bug he was tracking. I couldn't believe it! Haha! I took him back inside after that though. Didn't want him to get a bug that could possibly be bad for him or to actually go into a rabbit/snake/mouse hole. *shudders at the though of snakes*

Are bell peppers ok to feed to him? Somebody told me to try those to see if he would eat them since he hadn't been eating his greens.

I was able to get him to eat one piece of his greens from my hand yesterday, but he wanted nothing to do with them after that. Will try again soon.

Hello

Hello Amber,

Well, it is somewhat hard to tell how old they are. You can kind of tell by the way that they shed, as babies have softer skin & tend to shed in whole body phases. Whereas adults, they have a little tougher skin & shed more in patches instead. Also, the heads start to mature more & widen too as they get older. The bulges on top of their head & above their eyes change in shape as well.
That is hilarious he went chasing after a bug! I think the fastest bearded dragon was clocked at 100mph so watch out! LOL No, just kidding, but, they are very fast. Do you have hawks or large predatory birds in your area? If so, watch for them because they will dive at them. He will take off for cover if he sees one too.
Bell peppers are fine for them. No problem, you can use red or green, or the other colors too. It is challenging to get them to eat their greens!
That is fine, the light can wait since he is getting sunlight daily & calcium he will be ok until then.
It sounds like he is doing awesome though, great job with him. :D

Tracie

Yeah we have hawks but I keep a very good eye out on the sky, plus I don't leave his side if I can help it. When I do have to leave his side, I make sure the kids stay by him. So he's never alone.

He's shed twice now since I've had him....his orange/red colors are starting to go away...:( Is there anything I can feed him that might bring those back out? I know that most do lose their colors and markings as they get older, but I'd love to keep that orange/red stripes on his head.

I will pick him up some bell peppers next time I go to the store then. I hope that it helps him. Might try some other squash type food. Whatever he doesn't eat before it goes bad, I'll feed to his crickets...haha

I can't believe he was able to see a bug from that far away. I'm not kidding when I said we were all the way across the other side of the yard when he took off after it! Very impressed with his actions!

His head shape has changed a bit, he's starting to grow more under the neck, that was how I was able to tell he was gaining weight before I picked him up or weighed him. I'll measure him tomorrow for sure since I'll have time to do so and will post that when I'm done.

Hi, I measured him today, and the longest i got was 8 inches. Tip of nose to tip of tail, or at least the closest to each I could get. :D

Hello

Hello Amber,

Great, he is growing isn't he? That is awesome! :D
Yeah those hawks are sneaky aren't they? Plus they are fast, too.
Well, his colors may come back with other sheds, possibly. If you want to help bring out colors, mercury vapor bulbs are the very best, other than the sunlight. Regular flourescent lights are not strong enough really, to bring out their best colors.
Maybe he will like the bell peppers, what a picky boy he is! LOL Hopefully you will find something that he likes.
The head will fill out very nicely when he becomes an adult. It is neat to watch the transformation.
They have very good distance vision. It is amazing what they can see & we are just like, what? LOL
