    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

My First Beardie

I love summer school. I'm just upset that I have no classes until it starts. Or at least a job......that'd be nice. No more desperate attempts to make money babysitting my...no..my husbands, nephew and nieces.....I swear first job that comes and pays at least $10/hr I'm dropping those kids like flies on poo.

Took Toby out the other day for a drive and he had a blast. Took him out for a walk today too. Put him on the asphalt after making sure it wasn't very hot, and he decided he didn't want to move, but instead bask on it, so I had to pick him up and carry him on my shoulder. :p

He's starting to eat a bit better. Went to the bait shop and picked him up a cup of butter worms and some crickets.

The lady there had asked of Toby was acting weird, and I said yes. Apparently hers has been too since the earthquake. So, guessing it's common. *shrugs* He is getting much more active.

Right now, he's climbing to the top of his vines and trying to pry the lid off the cage so he can climb out.

I let him run around the apartment for a couple hours today too. Had to put him back into his cage when he decided to try and go behind the bookcase. :p So, he's not very happy that he's back in there once more today. Oh well...haha

Hello

Hello Amber!

You teach, right? That is SO much work too. I hope you don't have to babysit for too long! LOL
Yeah that is a big thing they like to sit still alot of times they like to just sit & bask out in the sun. At least he had a good time & got to stay on your shoulder for the time outside.
Oh that is cool you got some butterworms, too with crickets. I bet he loves those! Our dragons would always act weird right before a hurricane would come. They sense the barometric pressure dropping.
Yeah they never do like to go back in their tank after being free in the room, running around! He was actually trying to pry the lid off too, trying to get out? At least he is more active & eating more now. :D

Tracie

Yup, I just placed my order for roaches. We are going to buy the rubbermaid tomorrow and then they should be here by the end of next week (hopefully) ordered 100 of them, will feed him the small ones and allow the adults to have babies. I've also still got a few crickets and worms left, and if need be, can go back to the bait shop to get more until they build up quickly. Guess I need a heating pad too though to keep under the thing so they stay warm.

OH YEAH! I forgot to mention. I figured out a way to get a really awesome cage, but with minimal work. I was looking on Craigslist for cages that I could possibly buy...and I came across this one, and it was made from an old dresser...and it actually looked AWESOME....only thing I'd do different was put vents in the side, instead of cutting out the top like he did. And, I'd make two of the 3 drawer areas open (one on each side) and then keep the center drawer area stationary. :D Then drill in the lights and tile the bottom and it's done. :D

I think it'd look really neat. :D And if it's one of those dressers that have tracks for the drawers, even better because I can use those to make multi-levels....:D

Hello

Hello Amber!

Wow that sounds really cool! I love the look of the dressers that are converted into tanks, they look very nice. That would be awesome. So are you going to go ahead & get that one then?
It does sound like it would be minimal work for you. That is great. What does your hubby think of it? :D
How big was it then?

Tracie

He's the one who suggested the dresser after we saw it.

I'm a bit concerned, I took Toby out of his cage and brought him outside. He was sitting on my shoulder and decided to take a dive onto the concrete. He seems to be ok, I guess, but should I keep an eye out for anything in particular? I'd take him to a vet, but the problem is, I still haven't found one close by here I can take him to.

Hello

Hello Amber,

Wow Toby did take a dive didn't he? That couldn't have felt very good landing on the concrete.
I would keep a watch out for strange twitching on the back legs, or the outer portion of the abdomen. Sometimes once they injure themselves, it can take several weeks for it to show up if it is soft tissue that is being affected.
If there was any injury, it will take several weeks for the soft tissue to swell up to the point that it could affect Toby. There are times that it can swell to the point that it affects the spinal cord & they lose the movement in their back legs.
How did he land? On all fours?
I hope that he will be ok! MOST of the time, they are fine after falls though. :D
Is his appetite ok now too?

Tracie

His appetite still seems to be fine. He's been very "immobile" since his fall. He'll go from the top of his branch, over to his basking rock, and just sit there for a bit. I think he landed on all fours, but it took me a second to turn around to look at him so I'm unsure, he may have turned himself back around before I was able to look.

Hopefully his roaches are here before the end of the week. I plan on going up to the local Goodwill around here and checking out some of their dressers in hopes of maybe finding one that'll suit my taste of living room furniture and make a great new home for Toby.

Well...as of Thursday, Toby has a new living area. Tim called me from work today and said there was an ad in the paper for a 100 gal. reptile tank for $65.....so he gave me the number, and I called. I asked for the depth, not wanting anything less than 24"...but she a) didn't know how to get the depth, and then once I explained it to her b) didn't know what it was haha...but she said that it housed a monitor and he was really big, so I'm thinking, monitor, compared to a bearded dragon...OK..this thing is big enough. :p I go to pick it up on Thursday, and then I guess I go buy the tile for it that day too so I can have everything set up all at once. I need it that way so I can clean the rest of my poor excuse of a clean apartment for my part on Friday. But there is no point in cleaning it right now, when, but Thursday, everything is going to be strewn about anyway as I re-arrange furniture to fit his new home and make room for guests. :p (also, procrastination and being completely sucked into this story isn't helping much.)

He seems to be doing ok, eating and what not. He keeps climbing to the top of his branches and ends up losing his balance hours later only to fall to the ground....then he mopes and stays there the rest of the day. I think it's time I got him new branches as well, or a log. There is a landscaping area right down the road, I might stop there and see if they have any HUGE spare pieces that I can take for him. I'm still trying to figure out how I am going to do the background now though, unless they have one going with it. This kind of puts a damper in the "fake rock wall" I wanted to build. And I'm not buying another one from the pet store due to how easily they melt. I want something that the roaches won't be able to hide behind or in. So, I don't know. I'm going to build him that den area....somehow....I guess it all depends on the size of the tank when I get it, and all that good stuff.

Helloq

Hello Amber!

OMG, that is great! A 100 gallon tank all for Toby, he will love that then.
Wow that sure did happen fast, so I am sure that you definitely were not expecting to deal with all of these changes. So what color of tile are you going to look for then?

I hope you can find some more pieces of wood or logs for the landscaping for him. He probably needs some larger pieces to sit on if he keeps falling off. Poor guy! LOL

Well, you might still be able to build a rock wall, it will just take a bit more imagination than before. I don't blame you though not wanting roaches to hide behind stuff is tricky.

I am happy you found something now. Good luck getting it all cleaned up & fixed for him, before you have company all weekend.

Tracie

Oh, I'll get it done, even if it means staying up all hours of the night and through the early morning, it'll all be done. haha

I'm bug bombing tomorrow, since it's the ONLY day I'm going to have the time, aside from Thursday I guess, tomorrow is looking chilly, and I really don't want Toby to be cold, but at the same time, Thursday is looking grim too. So, I chose the warmer of the two days....and I'm going to keep him under blankets and what not, and with the heat in the car, he should be fine enough for two hours. He'll at least enjoy the day out nonetheless.

I don't want to bother with the wall when I can't do it as easily.

As far as tile color goes, I have no idea exactly which color I'm going to go with. I thought about a natural sand color, or a reddish clay color. Something that POPS but at the same time, makes Toby pop in color.

Living room is done! HAHA I knew I'd get it done in time. Also, the roaches arrived today. :D I also went and bought the tile for Toby's tank. :D I fed him 2 of the roaches and he LOVES them! I wish I could give him more right now, but I want them to have babies. How long after they get preggos do they have the babies so I know to watch out for them? There are a few good sized adults in there, so just wondering.

Will be getting a heating pad tomorrow to keep under their box....I could probably do with another 100 of them....I was figuring it to be a lot more than what it is.....*shrugs* Well, I still have to vacuum before the living room is 100% done (yeah, the above statement shall be struck....:p)

Hello

Hello Amber!

How are things going?
How did the bug bombing go, did Toby enjoy being outside during that time? I hope it wasn't too cold. This is almost June I figured it would be warm up there!
Either one of those colors for the tile sounds great. Tiles are really nice & they are easy to keep clean, too. Which color did you end up with then?
The roaches got there finally huh? Great, good luck with getting them all setup. I believe that the gestation time is about 1 month or so.
Make sure the temps are good, otherwise if they are too cold it will take longer for hatchout.

Tracie

I have a heating pad coming my way tonight for the roaches, although, she's not too happy about what it's going to be used for...haha. He LOVES the roaches though. I wish I could feed him more heavily out of them, but can't. I think, when people ask me what I want for my birthday next week, I'm gonna tell them roaches. I mean, my family and friends already know I'm nuts, so this won't be anything weird...to them at least.

Toby, I guess likes his cage. He was "sleeping" when I got home with it. So I took his lights and heated the cage up for a bit after getting it set up. I ended up getting a ceramic tile that is kind of tanish/brown, but it has lighter colored splotches all over it too....it looks really awesome in the tank. Especially with the background. My dad took 2 of the tiles home to cut them for the back. I took the wrong dimensions, and the tank fits 3 full sized tile across, but in the back there is space for only half the size of the tile to fit 3 times across. Once it's 100% I'll take pictures, well, better pictures. I've got some now that I have to upload and I"ll post for all to see. The top is a slide top and has a place for a lock...which, depending on the people who start coming over here will determine if I get a lock or not for it, but I doubt I will.

The lady threw in 2 HUGE feeding dishes, the background, 2 big pieces of driftwood, a few rocks and this rock with a fake plant in it. I can already see him, trying to climb up the fake plant and then glaring at it the rest of the day when he realizes that he's too big for it. :p There is also a half log in there, I THINK he's small enough to hide under it right now, but I know that once he starts growing more, it won't happen and will end up just being another place for him to sit on.

Well, we have decided to move the roaches into Toby's old tank. Harmony LOVES watching them, and even petting them, so not only have they become Toby's main source of food, but they have also become our newest pets.

I'm headed to the pet store today to pick up some heating pads for under the glass to keep them warm, and we are keeping the tank right next to Toby's, in the living room. I think he'll have a hay day watching them crawl around next to him.

Hello

Hello Amber!

Well, that is hilarious that your family thinks that you are nuts, but that is ok. :D
Harmony is petting the roaches? Now THAT is so great! I would love to see that. Oh poor Toby will be tortured & entertained at the same time, watching his dinner crawling around next door to him! LOL
The tank sounds like it turned out really great. Maybe when you get time you could post a picture of it for me! I bet the tiles look really pretty also. Good your dad helped out with the tiles, too. They can be a pain getting cut to size sometimes. So he was sleeping when you got home?
Yeah he will knock that plant over wont he? LOL Wow they sure threw in alot of stuff for you. That was nice of them. Has he checked out the new rocks yet?

Talk so you soon.
Tracie

He likes sitting on the logs the most. I still can't get his hammock to stay up, which is really frustrating. Right now he's standing in his food dish plastered against the back of the tank. *shrugs*

We are ordering another 100 of the roaches, just so I'm able to feed him a bit more day to day from them. I'm also ordering him some worms, so when I can't feed him out of the roaches, I will be able to do so with the worms. That makes 1 meal roaches, 1 meal worms, and 1 meal veggies/fruits. Yum for him. :D

We put the roaches in his old tank. We placed the tile in their tank too then took the plant out of Toby's cage and stuck it in with them, along with this real neat skull we had as decoration in the house (just cuz we are weird and think it'd be funny to see roaches climbing through the eye holes), and we also broke a flower pot so they had things to hide under. I also bought a reptile heating mat and placed it under their cage to keep it warm in there for them. Hopefully, with the new found heat, and the food and what not, they'll start reproducing soon. :D There is one roach who just got done shedding off his shell, and he's completely white!

Hello

Hello Amber!

Well, at least you have logs for him to sit on though! Too bad you can't get his hammock to stay up. I wonder why? That has to be frustrating though.
Wow spoiled little Toby, for sure! Worms & roaches being rotated just for him! :D
That is a great setup you have for your roach colony. I am sure that they will start breeding anytime now. Just make sure they have plenty of food, water & heating. I think the hiding places for them sound great also!
Good luck.

Tracie

I've been able to maintain a temp. of 90-95 degrees F inside the roach tank on the warm side. They don't come out often....probably due to the fact they like the dark, but still. :p I guess when another 100 get added, they'll have less places to hide like that. So I'll see more of them. I've had two fatalities so far, but no more.

He displayed his beard for Harmony this morning. She's the only one who can get him to wave, head bob, or anything at will opposed to him doing it just to get our attention then stopping. *is jealous*

She is LOVING the roaches. Every time I go to take out a couple for Toby to eat, she HAS to pet them before I give them to him. haha

I've got to get him a wee bit more baby food to hold him until the worms and roaches get here. I've got at least 1 full grown male and female in the tank...so I"m hoping something comes of it VERY soon!

Hello

Hello Amber,

That is just so funny that she loves & pets the roaches! Ha, just make sure she is not picking them up & they escape! LOL
That temp is fine. I wouldn't go over 95. They love dark places to hide too. I am sure that they are already breeding huh? Hopefully you will get a good yield of eggs. Two fatalities is not bad at all.
Ah so Harmony gets Toby to headbob & armwave huh? That is so cool.
Toby should be fine until the worms & roaches get there. Are they getting there on friday I hope?
