    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

Would making a new way to reptile shipping make it easier such as a new bussiness like Fedex except its for reptiles owned and runned by herpers what do you think?

Pat Malloy

Ummm.....  No.  Are you serious?
There is no way that there are enough herpers to support a full overnight shipping business.  You'd have to have planes, trucks, empolyees, buildings, etc etc......  No chance.

it was just food for thought it came to me as everyone hates the way that ups and fedex and usps are so i just thought i would give it a try

THis would not work for a variety of reasons. I have mulled this over many times. SInce I drive a truck and have over the road experience I considered doing this regionally. But it would never be cost effective if it wasnt as big as the other shipping companies with planes, and trucks. Lets say I pick up some snakes in Chicago and have to take them to Iowa were talking 200+ miles and if I only have that one pick up I would have to charge something like $400 for shipping if not more. There just aren't enough packages to warrant a business that solely ships reptiles.

An animal shipping business would also be hard for the same reasons. Just not enough freight and the freight that is out there is already contracted. As for other businesses shipping them I dont see why they dont take reptiles more frequently if they are getting the money and the packages are well packed who cares whats in the box???

The short and easy answer, LIABILITY.

Say you charge @$65 like Delta Dash, then you ship a $2500 Basin ETB and its DOA.  Now you file the claim for the insurance you purchased from them.  You win your claim and they lose $2435 on your single shipment.

Now say you ship a $200 Albino Manacled King Cobra.  And due to some mishandling at the port the box busts open and the lil guy bites and kills a cargo handler.  How many  millions do you think that will cost them for the $65 freight charge?

These types of accidents are what they look at and always consider first.

To add yet another story to the mix.  I went a few days ago to pick up a new animal at my local airport.  Took the time to get an appointment for Delta to come visit me and make me a verified shipper.  They informed me of a recent problem they encountered that was going to change local shipping policies.  It would seem a local herp store was shipping 20 corns and didn't secure the inner bag well and they all got out and crawled out the air holes in the box.  The cargo handlers freaked when saw 20 bay snakes of unknown species to them, crawling all over the luggage.  So now they wont let us ship with air holes unless you seal the box in their presence and prove that the animal inside cant get out of the box.

Pretty soon stupid accidents like this will stop all forms of legal shipping methods for all of us.

</td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'>
This would be a possible method of them getting around the liability and placing it all on you the new subcontracted firm.  I am pretty sure they would only let you if you assumed all liability and responsibility for what was shipped.  I just hope you have DEEP pockets if a law suite hits or someone files a claim as in the above scenario.

I do like the way you are thinking about it though.  Thinking on hurts when you dont do it.

I'm not sure  exactly what that is... But I suppose the pattern on Naja naja hoods looks sort of like handcuffs. Not an Ophidiophagus of course. But the closest to manacled I could think of.
