    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Inquiry KNOBTAIL/FLYGUY - Jerry

I have known Jerry for years and get my fruitflies from him. I find him to be an intelligent, honest businessman that I wouldn't hesitate on getting any animals from.
Hope that helps.

Jerry is a good friend and I have known him for many years. He is one of the pioneers in the reptile industry and you will have no problems purchasing from him. You can buy with confidence.

Its appreciated, however

At this jucture, we have decided not to do business with this person.. We have already engaged in over 14 emails back and forth relating to unnecessary concerns. We generally ship for next day 10 am delivery. Susan and that is the name she used in her emails, inquired about shipping standard FedEx to be picked up at her facility. We indicated that whatever she feels comfortable with is fine with us. We asked for her phone and hold information. Nothing came forward. We wanted to know what state we were shipping to: nothing came forward. We asked for her FedEx account which she wanted to use: nothing came forward, as well as no PayPal payment which is what we requested.. Just one inquiry after another that basically put an end to what we believe was never going to produce a sale anyway ! In other words just a waste of time.

The geckos in question amounted to $ 100/3 These interestingly, are not available at all in the US. In excellent condition but do not fit into our breeding of knobtails.. So they were offered for sale, and a generous amount of information on there husbandry was provided.. Its just unfortunate that we ended up on a merry go round. Its happens. Her loss !

Thanks again for the kind words.. Rob, its always good to hear from you ! JERRY

I have known Jerry for many, many years. He's one of the "old-timers"! LOL!
Good guy!

What is wrong with asking questions about the animals? Since you had them for a year, and I've never kept any of this species, I figured you wouldn't mind the questions, which were about tank setup, genders, and if they had produced at all for you. Is it wrong to want to know about the animals so that I can set up the cage correctly?

I also indicated that it was VERY COLD here and I didn't feel comfortable shipping anything until it was consistantly above freezing temps. The confusion about the shipping pricing was just that.. confusion. I apologize if that upset you any.

There is also nothing wrong with inquiring about a stranger (to me) who I am interested in buying animals from. That is what this forum is for. I felt a tad pushed into a sale, since these '14 emails' all happened within the course of 2 days time. I did not find any thread in the BOI about your animals/sales, so I posted my own, which did get favorable responses.

I decided not to use my Fed Ex account for it, however, after reading Fed Ex terms of use, and checking prices. I apologize though for not replying with the state information, I missed that email entirely.

Anyway, I am sorry you no longer wish to sell them to me. I have a cage and heat mat ordered for them (showing that I fully intended to purchase them), so if you were to change your mind, and were able to wait until the weather warms up above freezing for a couple days, I would still be open to this sale.

To everyone who responded, thank you for your input.

I don't know Jerry personally but I highly doubt that he considers your husbandry questions as unnecessary concerns. He would be the last person I'd suspect that would send animals out to someone who didn't know how to care for them properly.

I also do not see your inquiry post as a reason that he chose not to do business with you. He made it very clear that your lack of response to several of his requests were what caused him to refuse the sale.

If you have emails showing that you did answer his many requests then please provide them. If you cant - then all you did was waste the mans time.

BTW - Inquiries/ Background checks are something that you do first, not last. Saves a whole lot of time and trouble for both buyer and seller.

well, since i do know srakha from another forum/chat thing. i will say that i know she intended to purchase these geckos, and when she started talking about them. she said she didn't want to have them shipped when the weather was way too cold. which is understandable. and maybe there was some confusion, but to the best of my knowledge she had every intention of buying them.

The requests I did not respond to were all personal information.. address, phone number, Fed Ex number. As I did not know anything about him at the time, I wasn't too sure about giving those out. He did have my zip code, however, for a shipping quote.

That was another reason why I decided to post here. I would have probably gone on to purchase from him, after seeing all the good feedback he is getting. I am sorry for not doing it first, I wasn't thinking at the time.

He also never addressed the freezing temperatures that I mentioned, so I hesitant.

I would be glad to post the emails, if he doesn't mind.

No apology necessary, Susan. Personally I think your explanation is more than sufficient and satisfying, that if I were Jerry, I'd reconsider and go forward with the deal.

He wants to sell, you want to buy, lets do this.

Happy Endings. :)

I can understand how lots of questions that take a long time to answer and no apparent commitment can be frustrating for anyone... most breeders do not have oodles of time either.

But, probably best just to bluntly (and privately) state to a potential buyer "I'm sorry, I only have so much time to answer questions. I will respond with sale information promptly but may take a while answering further care questions. Meanwhile here are other sources of care info _______. If you are interested in the animals please at least send ____ deposit ____ and I will hold them for you."

Or something, rather than airing out that sort of grievance here.

Apparently, my intuition

sometimes seem to overcome my reason. Not unusual in this business.. I sent Susan some photos of our operation which she replied in an email to me as being "envious". That was done with the intention of her not having to worry about whether we were legit or not. The photos are impressive ! I am very well aware of what freezing weather can accomplish to anything living, and I know full well that unless the temp reaches a level or safety, I would not ship under those conditions to anyone.

But I do want payment. If it means taking the geckos off the market, and holding them (which is not a problem) until the buyer has notified me to ship, it can be accomplished in 24 hours.. If there is some reluctancy on the part of the buyer, then at least let me know so I can offer these to someone else.

With regard to her not knowing me. Its understandable, but I provided photos which she had asked for, I provided husbandry information which she had asked for and I was more then happy to accommodate her as to her method of shipping. That includes sitting on the geckos until it was safe to ship.. But I am entitled to get paid to finalize the transaction.

That is our policy, and its not inconsistant within the business of selling herps. The total amount in question as I stated earlier would be $ 100.00 She had the option of using her own FedEx account or we could use ours..

I may have been a bit demanding in getting a "yes or no" answer, but my last email to Susan as noted below was probably at the 14th message between sending and receiving.

Let me know if your interested in purchasing them. I think we have reached enough in email correspondence for you to make a decision. JERRY

I will out of courtesy make another attempt and if she is willing to purchase them and pay for them, then the terms have been met and she has nothing to worry about when dealing with me. I have no objections to sitting on these little gems until she feels its advisable to ship... JERRY

Payment in full

has been received, and all shipping related problems have been resolved. Thanks for the input, and have a safe holiday. JERRY
