Insects?

Any input on insects would be appreciated. I have tried crickets,
mealworm and waxworms as a treat. Neither the mali or the red niger will touch them. Do they really need insects in their diets at all?

No insects

They are primarily herbivorous. Insect protien/fat is actually very bad for them so stick with dandilion and hibiscus blooms for treats.
