I posted a while ago about a baby crested that I had bought at a show that just wasn't growing. When I bought the little guy, he was only 1.6g, and no bigger than a hatchling, but I had a few extra dollars to spend, so I took the risk.
Well, I put this little one into a small critter keeper, with the knowledge from reading that the smaller the enclosure, the more secure a crestie of this size would probably feel. I tried putting in crickets, but the little one wouldn't even look at them when they moved. The only thing it was eating was a little bit of CGD mixed with apple/pear baby food. One and a half months later, it still only weight 1.8g. So, I resorted to trying to force feed it, without a lot of force by just dabbing a little of the CGD mixture on its mouth so that it could lick it off. I did this for a week, but decided that it wasn't something that I could do for the entirity of a gecko's life, so I decided to let nature take its course. I still offered crickets once in a while, but it never touched one.
Then, I received a suggest from some fellow herpers to try moving it to a bigger enclosure (duh! why hadn't I thought of this!?). So after moving it to a bigger rubber maid ( 12"h X 12"w X 16"l). I threw in a few crickets to see what would happen. All of a sudden the crickets are dissappearing (into its stomach)! Voila, one and a half weeks later, the little guy is 3.1g, and just completed it's first shed with me since I bought it April 17th!
To say the least, I am very proud of the little guy (named Shae), and SOOO glad that someone clued me in to putting it in a bigger enclosure!
Just a story I thought I would share, incase anybody else ever runs into this problem.
Thanks for listening!
