    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

I posted a while ago about a baby crested that I had bought at a show that just wasn't growing. When I bought the little guy, he was only 1.6g, and no bigger than a hatchling, but I had a few extra dollars to spend, so I took the risk.

Well, I put this little one into a small critter keeper, with the knowledge from reading that the smaller the enclosure, the more secure a crestie of this size would probably feel. I tried putting in crickets, but the little one wouldn't even look at them when they moved. The only thing it was eating was a little bit of CGD mixed with apple/pear baby food. One and a half months later, it still only weight 1.8g. So, I resorted to trying to force feed it, without a lot of force by just dabbing a little of the CGD mixture on its mouth so that it could lick it off. I did this for a week, but decided that it wasn't something that I could do for the entirity of a gecko's life, so I decided to let nature take its course. I still offered crickets once in a while, but it never touched one.

Then, I received a suggest from some fellow herpers to try moving it to a bigger enclosure (duh! why hadn't I thought of this!?). So after moving it to a bigger rubber maid ( 12"h X 12"w X 16"l). I threw in a few crickets to see what would happen. All of a sudden the crickets are dissappearing (into its stomach)! Voila, one and a half weeks later, the little guy is 3.1g, and just completed it's first shed with me since I bought it April 17th!

To say the least, I am very proud of the little guy (named Shae), and SOOO glad that someone clued me in to putting it in a bigger enclosure!

Just a story I thought I would share, incase anybody else ever runs into this problem.

Thanks for listening!

that awsome i had the same thing happen to me..i bought a crested and he was really nice, first day i got him he ate(he was also in a critter keeper).but then he didnt eat and i tryed hand feeding him but it didnt work.so i let god decide what he wants to do with the little bugger (hades).and the next day i got him out to feed him(well try)and he died in my hands.the saddest thing ever. but when i get my FIRST hatchling ever(this week or next week ..hopefully)i will put them into a smaller cage until they are 2-3 months then i will but them in a slightly bigger cage..thanks for the story hope it helps me out u too.post a pic of s/he

Good job Amanda! Thats an excellent story, one with a happy ending. Keep us posted on this little guys progress. BTW, you going to the show this weekend? It should be a good one ;)
Take care

I'll sure be there at the port credit show tomorrow! Are you going to be a vendor or a buyer?? I'll try to say hello if I find you, and you aren't being mobbed by all the people trying to buy your beautiful leos!

Here are some pics of Shae now, I don't have any good ones where you can see his/her size from before:

Thanks!

It's a cute one, although it doesn't look to be anything special. I actually bought this little one from the Port Credit table at that last show in April. The guys there had no clue what its parents are like, so it'll be a surprise color when it gets older....with my luck, probably a tan, but it's got a little bit of back pattern, and some tiny partial pinstriping that might develop further.

I'll love it no matter what it turns out to look like, this is my little guy that could!

very pretty amanda...I like his coloring and pattern

Sounds like you found the answer to the problem and he's not looking back :) Once they feel comfy in their home, they eat like pigs and grow faster than weeds.

If you go to the September show, stop at my table and say "Hi", I'm always happy to put faces to names I see on the forums (Hilde/DragnDrop/WoodlandEdgeHerps) :)

Sure I'll come and say "hi". You probably saw me at the last show, as I went to every single table to have a look at all the cresties. By the time the next show comes around, I might even be trying to sell a few cresties...but I doubt it'll be worth being a vendor for. I have the 5 juvies right now, and if I get more than one or two males, then I'm going to have to sell the males off, because I just don't have that much room for them, and I'm sure someone else would have better accomodations for them than my rubbermaids. I would like to be a vendor at some point though, but from what I've read on ssnakess, it can be pretty hard the first few times.

On another note...This little guy now weighs in at 3.8g! Everytime I weigh him/her, I am amazed!

All my other juvies are in the 9-15g range, so I'm hoping I'll find out if they are male/female soon...Nobody seems too clear on what weight you generally know if they are male by...any ideas? I don't have exact birth dates for any of them, seeing as they were all bought (one from Lindsay Mason, the other three from Mark & Aimee in Colorado Springs)...

Thanks!

Update!

I thought I would give an update on 'Shae'. This turned out to be a male, but one that I'm too attached to to let go! Shae now weighs in at 25.8g, which still astonishes me when I think about the rocky start I had with him.

I love the darkness down his crests, and how he's almost yellow and black when completely fired up. I am going to try pairing him with a yellow female I have that has the darkness down the crests as well, but hers is reddish-brown between the crests, and dark brown outside the crests. We'll see what I come up with! They won't be breeding until after winter is over (she's only 27.5g).

Here are some pictures I took about a month ago of Shae:

He's not fired up in them, but I'm sure you can imagine when those darker areas go black what he looks like. I should have named him 'Wasp':hehe:

Cheers!

he's looking great...glad he picked up and has been doing well for you :)

he looks cool!!!hopefully he be a great breeder for you.

I am not into cresties, but that one almost made me want one.

Very nice gecko!!
