    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

I would like to get some thoughts on a scarlet kingsnake I found a couple of days ago. It's habitat was harvested recently. Pinewoods. Could not believe the size of it. I got it home, put it in a 36" terrarium. When it stretched out along the side I could see that from nose to tail it ran the whole length minus 4". I never have seen a 32" inch scarlet. I have seen a lot of eastern corals that are 30+ but never a scarlet kingsnake. It also seems thicker than most scarlets. It has the beautiful coloring of red black yellow black red as would be expected. Very bright colors. One thing odd about the pattern, Halfway down the snake two of the yellow stripes join up and form a circle on top of the back, instead of running around like the rings. This only occurs the one time. My herp vet is out somewhere on vacation. I can't wait to show the snake to him. I gave him a baby I found a couple of years ago. Any comments? Will post pics as soon as husband takes them with a decent camera. Couldthe unusual marking and the size be related?

Im wondering if it isnt some sort of a hybrid. The record for scarlets is 27 inches in length, so if it isnt a hybrid, you may have just broke a record. As far as the pattern goes, I dont think that its because of the size... Sorry I couldnt be more help :)

Also from all the ones that I have seen as well as the pictures that Im finding online, the banding on the one you found is closer together. Dont know if that makes a whole lot of sense, but usually there is more spacing between the reds and blacks...

Strange Scarlet Kingsnake

Thank you for your help. Actually my terrarium is 30 not 36 inces. The snake measures somewhere between 26 and 30 inches.

All the scarlets that I see have the same banding distance for the most part,

I have found that in this area there are a few species of snakes with unusual coloration for the species or strange patterns. I see quite a few pygmies 3 of them, one adult and two babies had highly unusual coloring. This is out of about 200 sightings over 5 years. Mostly I see the babies on my walks.

I would say definitely break out the tape measure and see what you come up with :) Record length is only 27", so you might have something sweet on your hands :)

How?

It is calm but not that calm. How am I supposed to strectch it out without risking injury to the snake?

You might have to have someone help you. If you get one of the soft measuring tapes, for sewing and stuff, you should be able to have someone hold onto the front half with the tape and then you work the length (very patiently) and see what you come up with... Just a suggestion, really have no idea... Or maybe a piece of string, and then measure the string???

It looks more like a scarlet snake (Cemophora coccinea) not a scarlet kingsnake (Lampropeltis elapsoides).

a nice big scarlet king. Aberrancies are not that uncommon in scarlet kings and though many are "perfect" many are also more aberrant than yours too.
Beautiful snake.

definitely a scarlet kingsnake. I used to catch some pretty ones like that back when I lived in South Ga. just not as large.
