    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Found a gecko anyone know what it is? basic care tips too.

Found this lil guy in my neighbors laundry, Im not really a gecko person But this one is pretty cool looking. Need some help identifying it if ya dont mind. If its a native species to the central Florida area Ill wait til he gets healed and let him back go. Not sure how he got hurt, but it looks like he lost a chunk of skin inbetween his toes.

But if hes what I think it it is, which Im guessing African leaf tail, wouldnt he be an invasive? That means I would just have to keep him to help preserve my areas natural balance.:dgrin: Hes got really pretty gold eyes!

Also basic care tips would help, hes about a inch long not including his tail. So prolly pin heads daily? Every other day? Meal worms? Right now hes in a lil deli cup with aspen and I misted the whole thing so he could drink the water droplets off the walls, and have some humidity. Anything else I should do?

That is a Mediterranean House gecko. They are an invasive species. Don't know about FL's laws but here it's technically illegal to release any wild caught animal after feeding it, but I'm not sure how that's enforced or if it's even relevant to you.... but it could still introduce disease into the wild population of not only that species but similar species, so unless you plan on keeping the cute, pretty little guy, don't feed him.
 
Well since it would technically be illegal to do so I guess I would have to keep him. :D And Im pretty sure he was born wild, after doing some research on the Med House Gecko, Im pretty sure his parents were living on my neighbors porch, shame their cat got ahold of one before I did. :( They are quite tricky to get.

Any basic care tips for geckos? Never owned one of any species.

He'll need a secure arboreal tank and will eat insects, I'm not sure what size insect will be appropriate for him since when I cared for one it was a tiny baby the size of my fingernail which I fed fruitflies. This particular kind of gecko will not need crested gecko diet. He is nocturnal, so no UV light. Probably a daily misting will be in order so he can lick drops of water from the sides of the tank. Good luck with this cutie! I don't care that they are invasive, I think H. turcicus is adorable :D

I might go with a sand/peat mix to mimic their natural substrate. But, yeah, it's an introduced species, so you're really obligated to keep it!;)

Awesome!! I use to have one that I caught and it stayed tiny forever. I use to feed it small crickets and kept it on sand/peat/soil. I use to love watching it eat because it was such an insane eater. It would stalk and track down crickets like a lion. I think there are a few different versions than the med. house gecko, I thought mine was a common house gecko but didn't know of the other types. I think you have to count their lines or what not.
 
Just use paper towel and something that has a tight lid, they can get through small cracks like a credit card!
 
Talked to one of my friends today, he said to feed these crickets or roaches (not dubias).
 
Yup, med. House gecko. We have them all over at the mall I'm at and I've got 5 at home I caught. Currently on paper towels in small tubs. Working on a planted tank for them, but keep yours on paper towel until that wound heals up to help prevent infection. I feed mine baby dubia, isopods, and meal worms.
 
We have tons of them here in Louisiana. In fact I would dare to say that most households here in my area have several if not dozens living behind external light fixtures, mail boxes, in garden beds, etc...

They likely need a great deal of humidity, will eat small insects as they don't get that big themselves and are nocturnal like many geckos, no need for UVB.

How do you feed them terrestrial prey? The ones I've encountered are to skittish to handfeed (not that I've tried, maybe they'll surprise me). Do they hunt prey on the ground as well as on the walls/air around them?
 
Well hes eating quite well, threw in 3 two week old crickets the night before and last night. He has eaten them all with gusto! Should I feed him nightly, or every couple of days?

I was gonna do a 10 gallon but someone mentioned they escape, so its back to the drawing board! Maybe Ill just buy one of the netted cages I see alot of geckos and chams in.

I used an exo-terra 12x12x18 tank and it worked perfectly well. He will enjoy the higher humidity too.

Mine seem to have no problem going after whatever they see move. I see them all over the tubs too, not just in the top portion. Actually, I went hunting for some more tonight and saw a lot near/on the ground, and not just up high, especially little ones (which were hunting ants at the time). Caught 3 tiny babies and 2 adults tonight, but saw probably close to 50.

I'm setting up a planted ten gallon. I'll be using a modified fish tank hood (just got done covering the inside of the hood with screen and sealing it all), I'll probably end up buying one of those glass tops though, as well as a screen lid. The glass lids sit right inside the lip of the enclosure, so they shouldn't be able to escape. The babies will stay in little tubs until big enough though, they are incredibly small.

Not sure if it's right, but I fed mine every other day, two small crickets a feeding.

The older ones I have are fed every other day (I feed about 5 small roaches), and the babies are fed every day (as many as they want/can eat).
 
So friday night I found another med house gecko, stuck him in with the other guy, and he started eating right off the bat, didnt even waste time and surely indulged himself.

Wake up yesterday morning, and the whole tub is swarmed with fire ants and they were both eaten alive, very sad. Dam shame since the fresh one was eating 60 secs after capture. Not a good way to start an 11 day vaca...
