    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Didn't hear about this in the news, now did we?

Off-duty cop prevents mass shooting in San Antonio

An off-duty sheriff’s deputy in San Antonio, Texas prevented a mass shooting at a movie theater on Sunday night, according to local reports.

Gunfire shattered the calm on Sunday night around 9:30 p.m. at the Mayan Palace Theatre, NBC affiliate WOAI-TV in San Antonio reported.

The alleged shooter was 19-year-old Jesus Manuel Garcia, who burst out of the nearby Chinese restaurant where he worked and begin firing at the theater next door. Police also told WOAI-TV that he fired at a patrol car as he was heading toward the theater.

Before Garcia could walk through the entrance, however, he was shot four times by an off-duty sheriff’s deputy working at the theater. The officer’s name was not released.

“The officer involved, she took the appropriate action to try to keep everyone safe in the movie theater,” a department spokesperson told reporters. “She did what she felt she had to do.”

Garcia remains in stable condition at a nearby hospital. He faces aggravated assault charges.

Raw Story

Nah. Can't go showing that a gun can save lives in the right hands, when you're working on disarming the country.

Good stuff, but four shots and he's still alive? :D

Or maybe it was because it didn't involve children, a school and 26?(7) deaths...just a thought.

Our media is the problem in general. We shouldn't show pictures of the criminals, we shouldn't give their last names, and we shouldn't cover ANY story as much as we do. There should be some serious control put into place.
Media doesn't create monsters but it sure gives them goals and glory to strive for.

Pathetic.

Perhaps pictures of the criminals as a bloody mess laying on the sidewalk would be more appropriate to try to influence impressionable young minds thinking about how cool it would be to pull some Rambo stunt like that.

Of course, if someone is also suicidal, there really isn't much you can do about that. Except maybe to show that death can be painful.

Perhaps removing God from school has had the unintended consequences of removing Hell as a consideration as well.

But kudos to the off duty officer for stopping what would have most certainly been yet another "me too" massacre for the media to feast upon.

Well, it was a girl behind the gun ... :D

LOL, I didn't mean that! I watched a video on YouTube last night that the news did on concealed weapon permit owners. They took two guys and a girl and ran them through a quick training course, suited them up in protective gear, and had them conceal a handgun with paint rounds. I guess they told them some story about having to pull the gun at the end of a classroom session they were attending, but instead surprised them with an armed intruder which put them in a surprise position to draw and defend themselves. The two males failed miserably and the female was the only one to get a shot off and hit the assailant. I'd link the video but it was trying to paint concealed carry in a bad light.

Just funnin' with Nick. I am a female former LEO, myself.

Yes, I know. The point I was trying to make was that the media is certainly not interested in showing how an armed female saved the day. It goes against their agenda of trying to prove that the only good gun is a confiscated gun. And of course guns are only being wielded by MALE Rambo wannabe psychopaths.

I work at a police dept. I've fixed ceiling lights and smoke detectors from all the male "pro" shooters.

In a real life situation, the benefit of CONCEALED carry is that quite likely a bad guy isn't going to know who is carrying, and who isn't, and has to be worried about a defense from any and all persons in the room. Of course, lately, it seems that some whacko just wants to shoot EVERYONE in the room for no fathomable reason. I'm glad that Connie and I don't really go out to public places much any more.

An interesting point about this involving the shooting in Colorado a few months back that was also completely ignored by the media.
There were 7 theaters within a 20 minute drive of the home of the shooter that were showing Dark Knight at the time.
Of those seven only one, the one where the shooting took place, was posted as not allowing firearms. This was also not the closest one to his home either.

Of the seven theaters in the area, he chose the one that was least likely to have anyone inside that was armed.

The same fact is also highlighted in school shootings like the one that just occurred. When you make it illegal to have a gun, even locked in your car, anywhere on the property, you have created a killing field, a confined mass of easy targets from which no resistance would be expected.

Anyone who has made the decision to commit a violent crime, is obviously not going to be deterred by a sticker on the door proclaiming the business to be firearm free. Only the law abiding will choose not to bring their guns inside, thus reassuring the criminal that this is an easier target, whether for armed robbery or mass murder.

Funny how "investigative reporters" can't seem to figure out details like that, now isn't it?

NOBODY is talking about banning laws that create these places of opportunity for murderers, now are they?

Would make an interesting lawsuit against the legislators who promoted and caused the creation of this sort of dangerous atmosphere, no?
