    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

My IJCP passed a liquid stool today, the urates were also loose. He was being handled this morning for about an hour with no vissible stress and then let loose. It was fairly bad smelling compared to normal. I know get him to a vet. But what do you guys think possible causes may be. Temps are dead on. Humitity a bit low but he has been going into a humid hide to shed.

That is never a good sign, has he been exposed to other snakes, because parasite infestation can cause foul smelly feces. If you take a sample to a good vet they will usually do a fecal for not too much $$. My vet charges $15 for the fecal. Snakes often poop when handled for obvious reasons, but they should not be real loose and smelly. Good luck.

I've kept a close Eye on my IJC Mahatma and he had another liquid stool on Saturday. I made an appointment with my local reptile vet. It is $66. for the doctor to just to examine the snake plus who knows what for a fecal. If I want to bring in both my IJC it is $66 for each. A bit pricey in my opinion, but what else can I do. I guess I'll call around. Since both are kept in the same location, are about the same age, and are the same species, I was hoping if the fecal came back with paracites he could just threat both. But they refuse to unless you pay the extra $66. If it is a parasite that is treatable with Panacur is it available without a script? If so where?

Most vets will not dispense meds for animals they have not seen...unless/until you have a professional relationship. Yes, it sucks that you have to pay the office visit for two snakes - but that is the rule no matter what the pet: cats, dogs, birds, snakes.... It gets expensive, but why should there be special rules for one type of animal.

In answer to your question, yes, Panacur can be obtained without a prescription. There are online sources, but it is faster and easier to get it at a local feed or farm supply store.

I get all my meds that are available with out a prescription from the Bean farm and they offer very fast shipping even overnight, which is a lot cheaper than the $66 vet fee. I have nothing but good to say about my experiance with them. Good luck!!!!! Dan M.

That is all well and good...if you know what you are treating. What if the problem is flagellates (if there even is an internal parasite to blame)? Panacur won't do anything.
I'm just not a big fan of empirically medicating animals.

I'm definately still taking him to the vet. Having him examined and having a fecal done if it is possible. If the fecal if positive for a specific parsite and my other snake starts looking ill then I will have a good idea what it is.

I do agree with you here for the most part as far as medicating without knowing the source, however in my experience I have never seen a snake harmed from the medication if used properly. Same with flagyl as well. Also if both snakes are showing the same symtoms and are the same species and in the same household and one has a certain parasite(once you get the fecal results back) I would treat the other as if it had it and see where I was when the dust settled.

Also perhaps you can bring in a fecal from the other snake and just have a fecal run on it without the office visit for snake number 2...or will they not do that??? Good luck either way, Dan M.

Agreed, Dan. Once the fecal is done, I would treat both as well - unless I knew there was no chance of cross contamination.

Well I just got back from the vet. I was a great experience. I am so lucky to have a vet that is so experienced with herps near by. I felt a lot better after he told me he kept 6 carpet pythons himself as well as many other herps (retics, balls, monitors, ect.) They did a fecal and as I expected it was too dry to get conclusive results. I need to bring in another sample and they will perform the test as soon as it is brought in. He told me how to perform a fecal which was great. Not that I'll trust my own results until I am completely certain. If over the next couple of years I'm 100% in agreement with the vet then I will start to trust myself. He gave me panacur and flagyl so that if he is not there when they perform the fecal and it comes back positive I can start treatment immediately. Well worth the money.

Flagellates are pretty easy to pick out (little swimmers), but identifying the various worms and ova is another thing entirely...and identification is the key to proper treatment.
Glad to hear things went well...the fresher the sample the better.

Definately agree it will be some time before I can tell one parasitic worm ovum from another.
