    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

A good friend of mine has been asking for my advice on boa hydration, I have given him what info I know but thought it might be best to get others involved. When dealing with a dehydrated boa, especially when they are not eating, I have always added pedialite to there water, even going as far as administering the water through a feeding tube. But I haven't dealt with a De-hydrated boa in a very long time. Can someone chime in here and give us all some pointers?

I guess it depends on how severe the dehydration is. Sometimes a good soak is all it takes (they can absorb some fluids through the vent). Sometimes time in a 'sauna' helps re-hydrate the tissue in the throat - placing the snake in a tub with damp moss or a warm wet towel so the humidity gets very high. Sometimes if it's not too bad, you can offer wet feeders to help get a little extra water into the snake. I've heard of people injecting water into the feeder as well but I've never done that.

When my boa was severly dehydrated the vet put her in an incubator overnight and then I tubed her fluids a few times.

He has stated they have a very flat appearance to them, with loose skin and no intention of eating. We talked about soaking but I didn't know if that would be enough to get them hydrated.

Have him explain how they got into this condition and how long the animal
has gone without sufficient husbandry practices for that species.
Boa didn't do it to its self,"very flat appearance" didn't happen over night nor 7-14 days
under "minimal"care conditions.(fish tank and heat lamps, all bets are off)

A competent DVM is strongly suggested, attempting to rehydrate or force anything
will likely shock the animal and kill it.The animal likely requires rehydration via SQ injection.
A proper Vet exam will also determine the under lying issue(s) that put the animal in its current state.

I will see if he can chime in. The only time I ever experienced a boa being dehydrated was when I accepted rescues, which I no longer do anymore.

that "flattened state" strongly implies the animal has already shut down
and is running on its own resources to correct what ever issue(s) it has.

Just aint a good thing . . . .

This is how it came to me. I picked up a collection of 30 boas that were involved in a house fire. There are 5 out of these that have not eaten. My husbandry is quite sufficient as the only problems i've ever had with my own collection have been mouth rubs.

I've moved my own collection inside my house and have these in my snake building while quarantined. My building is insulated and heated/cooled usually around a constant 80 degrees. My caging is heated with differing temperatures pending on gender, mating and whether they are gravid, but I'm generally running 86-90 hot spot and 80-82 cool spot in their cages.

Due to the fire some had RI, I cranked up the temps on that particular cage system and they seem to be doing fine now, no mucous on them or their cage glass and have taken 1 meal.

The 5 I'm not even sure if they are dehydrated or what the problem is. I have no background information on them at all. The original owner was devastated by his losses and does not want to talk about them. I got them from a friend of his who was keeping them for him and I asked to talk to the original owner but he did not want to talk to me.

One i'm sure just had babies recently as she is the flabby one, and that is how she came to me. The others are big girls with good weight on them, they just do not want to eat. There is a possibility that some are gravid as i was told??

Ordinarily I would get them to the vet, and I usually don't talk about my finances on a forum like this but my wife was off work for a little bit so it's put me in a financial pinch at the moment and I just can't fork out the minimum $75 per snake just through the front door charge, normally I am financially capable to take care of this many animals which is why i took on this collection. Which has been about 3 months ago.

Some clarity on the issue for sure, you have a huge task before you my good man.
The ones in worst shape are likely to have had the worst end of the smoke inhalation
from the fire.Rehydration is paramount but in their condition they should only be approach via SQ injections from a qualified DVM.
You of coarse will have to weigh the cost and net potential worth
in trying to save them or putting them down.

Due understand there is "suffering" taking place while they await your decision

Tough indeed.

Thanks Tommy, I do understand the suffering part. I've tried giving them time to adapt and de-stress. For sure it's been a task. For the most part I believe they were well taken care of. It was by far not a cheap collection of snakes as there was not a normal in the bunch. I will call my vet on Monday and see if they can work with me. I'm on my phone right now so it's a chore to type.

In the mean time do you think some Tylan and a good soaking might help until I talk to my vet?

Jeremy, thanks for getting this post started for me. Work just had me a little busy today.

Medications would be of no use to a system thats shut down(to make a real difference)
Hydration will free up their system to accept forward progress if significant damage hasn't already occurred.
Another thing to know/remember,snakes that are compromised to low levels generally always carry chronic or reoccurring issues.(they never fully recover)

Nature is very precise and void of all emotion and intent
You survive birth, reproduce when/if afforded and depart the world.

Thank you very much for your input. I really do appreciate it. It's a shame this has happened to these beautiful animals. I'll update as things progress.

I would recommend a good soak and verify they are getting hydrated as first priority.
