    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Bad Guy Sellers Beware of John Franco!

In all of your examples the person clearly mislabeled what was going on. The seller in this case simply used a defining word to call the gecko something besides 'it'. She never clearly said it was a guaranteed female. The seller made that assumption and chose to either not read the ad or chose to disregard it and send the money anyways. Regardless he decided to not follow the sellers rules.

Just as some people refer to their cars as shes 'aint she a beauty?', it means nothing when the very first thing the buyer was supposed to read said it was only possibly female.

The rules got broken when the game changed, which it did. imo This has nothing to do with valuable time being wasted, it's about punishment for hurt feelings.

Ok. You still done see where there was a breech in service by the seller.

So the next step is to get professional opinions on what they would do if faced with the same problem.

The seller clearly said in her ad that it was only a possible female. Any buyer that actually read the ad would have known right away it wasnt a guarantee. The buyer was the first one who broke the rules so hes not blameless and doesnt deserve to get off scott free

When one opinion differs from another, it helps to have others to look at the situation & voice their opinions as well. In this case, you and the seller are the only ones who have the same opinion. The other commenters, believe the seller broke her TOS and should also return the deposit.

The hypothetical with the car is exactly the situation here.

One can infer from your steadfast position, that you are one of her cronies and just as morally deficient as she. I'm sure that isn't the case though, I don't know you, so I cannot state that for a fact, though it does come off as such.

If I had money for every buyer that has wasted my time … I wouldn't need to sell a thing. If I had made this mistake, I would return the buyers money, 100%. It is morally & ethically right.

Iv never even heard of the seller before this post. And more people do agree with my views they just arnt posting here because when opinions differ to a few of you guys', they tend to get bullied.

And as for whats morally wrong, its morally wrong to not read an ad before sending payments on an item. Its also wrong to not follow the rules set in place by the seller. Either of those things couldve given the seller a perfectly fine way to not allow the buyer to purchase the gecko. As it stands, the only thing the seller did wrong was referred to the gecko with the wrong word. The buyer on the other hand didnt read the ad at all, didnt follow her TOS, and likely had buyers remorse.

And the seller consistently referred to the lizard as female. It seems like it'd be common sense, in order to avoid a blow up of confusion, to ensure the buyer was fully aware. Didn't someone early in the thread say that they also missed the "poss" in the ad? Then the seller reinforced the misperception instead of clearing it up. Possibly because it could have led to a missed sale? Which is exactly what happened.

My, I should quit my day job, since it seems like easy bank to make a 150 bucks by letting a customer be misled, then crying TOS. I wouldn't even need to carry any real stock.

It would have been so simple for the seller to avoid this whole fiasco by demonstrating a bit more integrity.

I could give you an example. Two years ago, I purchased the male corn snake in my photo. He was listed as anery motley het hypo, possibly tessera. Why possibly? Because the motley gene mixed with tessera can make a mess of determining with 100% accuracy that the snake, in fact, is actually tessera (stripe/stripe muddled this more than motley/motley or motley/stripe, in my experience in discussions with other corn keepers). When I made my excited inquiry into purchasing him, the breeder made it absolutely, abundantly clear that she could not guarantee his tessera gene (I will do a breeding trial with him to verify this myself in the future). She even expressed remorse in even mentioning the possibility, but did so because she felt full disclosure was the most correct course.

I see a strong parallel in my exchange and purchase to this gecko sexing issue.

The main difference is my seller disclosed and made sure I was fully aware that she could be wrong. This seller did not. And she banked $150 for her "troubles." :ack2:

TOS is shredded after the misleading talk by the seller and I too would have buyers remorse after I found out it isn't what it was lead on to be.

You try to downplay what the seller did. Oooops called it a female when it isn't really a female. Going to put a Lamborghini body on a Prius and just call it a Lamborghini. Your problem if you buy it without asking what is on the inside.

Come on...at best it is both of their faults. There is no way I can reason keeping $150 here.

The seller clearly labeled the gecko as possibly female. There was no need to keep reinforcing it as she obviously thought the buyer actually read the ad. And the seller kept her word by following through with her TOS as many of you guys obviously wouldn't have just to appease to one incompetent buyer. Her TOS are her rules and you cant get mad at someone for following the clear cut rules they made themselves. The seller did not intentionally mislead anyone. She simply referred to the gecko as the gender she believed it to be. She believed it enough to call it a she, but not tenough to guarantee it 100%.

Somehow the word 'bullied' got let out of its pen and now it's everywhere.
There are site rules against various name calling and the like. However, vigorously defending a point of view is not 'bullying'.

And im not downplaying anything. She referred to it by what she thinks it is. But you seem to think the buyer can do no wrong here when its obvious he started the whole deal making mistakes.

No lucille, defending your point isnt bullying. But name calling and people questioning your morality based on a simple opinion is most certainly bullying.

They should post.

Bullied is not accurate. You are not being bullied, we are discussing our points of view.

How about a 10% restocking fee; $30? Not sure how a few IM's and some extra crickets earned her $150. Btw, it could've been $300 if Paypal didn't step in.

I didnt say i was being bullied i merely stated that its par for the course here. And if you checked on the facebook version of this post, quite a few people agree with my point of view.

Oh sure she can follow her TOS if she so chooses. It just speaks volumes about how she runs her business. This hobby is not fond of how she goes about her business and it has shown in this thread.

She can act this way, but the hobby and its members will see that.

She refunded 150. paypal sided with her on the matter and rightfully so. i agree that 150 is too much but thats not my decision to make. She priced her time at 150$.
