    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.
  • Responding to email notices you receive.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

As some of yall know if you're ever in the BP forum, we've rescued several balls that were in pretty poor shape and nursed them back to health. This isn't our first rodeo. Well we have a new situation on our hands.

Here is the dealio:

We have some some snakes for sale on another site and we got a response from a person who offered to trade a young ball python for our snake. We've talked to them over the past couple days and have more of less agreed to trade. Not set in stone, but you get the idea. They said he was healthy, well fed, blah, blah, blah. You know the speach. Well, we finally got pictures of the ball tonight, which are below.

After seeing these pictures this is obviously a deal breaker. I will NOT give these people any living creature if this is how they treat thier animals and what they believe is well taken care of. Then again, they might just be trying to pawn off a sick animal off on us. Either way, it deserves better and we believe it would be in the snakes best interest to be our care so it can be taken to a vet and cared for properly.

Should we simply tell them we've decided to hold onto our snake, but would like to offer them cash for thier ball? It doesn't seem rude to me, but I've also had people snap on me for backing out of deals and I don't want them to just tell us to take a hike. How would yall go about handling this?

Note: To the very rude people who jumped to conclusions, made accusations, mocked my wife and I and treated us like we were morons, don't bother responding. We don't want your opinions.

What I think you should do is take the snake off the market and be honest with the person. tell them that their snake is un healthy looking and needs medical attention. You should then take it from there and see where it goes. IMO offering money for a sick snake is not the smartest thing to do. Tell them if they cannot give it the care it needs, you can. Or atleast send them in the direction of someone who can help them with treatment. You can also help guide them as well. Having a big heart is always a nice thing, Ben, but it can also cause more problems then it is worth. Hope this helps a bit.
 
Ask them if it has been to a vet as an opener. If they say yes, ask for documentation.

I think it is great that you take the time and funds to do this.

Great idea.
 
What makes everyone think it needs medical attention. It's throat is puffed because in all the pics it is just finishing a meal. The cage looks like a critter keeper, but based on all the pics being feeding ones, it's most likely a feeding container.

The snake looks thin, but not really emaciated or anything.

Advise wise, I don't know what to say, I'm not a rescue type person myself.

Thank you. It's not the fattest BP I've ever seen, but you guys DO realize it's a pic of the snake eating? Right?

Slightly skinny and dehydrated, but no biggie. Easy fix. If that's the worst you see when running a "rescue", consider yourselves lucky.
 
I don't think its terribly sick either. It is rather thin, but not dangerously. and yes, the puffed neck is from eating. You should probably just mention that he looks skinny and they should up the meal rations a little. and also maybe mention that it could go for a good bath and a good drink. Just be polite about it, and the owners should realize that you just have the best interest of the animal at heart and you're good herp keepers and are just trying to offer some advice.
