    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

I don't frequent the python section much as I am mostly into boas, but I have owned an 09 Sumatran blood and he has been a pet only. Samson is held frequently, atleast a couple times a week, basically just spoiled beyond belief. He has a beautiful hand built wooden cage for the time being, nice little hot spot of 92 degrees and is cooler side is at about 78 right now. I have never had an issue with samson, always get a full shed, no regurgitation, no RI, he has always been a great snake. I had just had him out just before I left for vacation and noticed he was a little impacted, so I had my brother soak him while I was gone. My brother has been handling snakes for quite some time, and I left him a very detailed instruction sheet on what to do for all my snakes, including samson. When I got back, my brother and his girlfriend told me he had acted funny half way through my vacation, they didn't say anything to me while I was gone so I wouldn't worry. But they said he wouldn't eat, and he drank a lot of water, constantly. So when I got back just at the beginning of the week, I got him out, he seemed a little sluggish, just didn't seem like himself. So I soaked him and massaged him, then he finally went to the bathroom. So to me, everything is good, I put him back and gave him a couple days of R&R. I checked on him last night, and he has lost basically all control of his body, like he is paralyzed, he can move his neck/head and roll himself over, but thats it. When I first found him he was laying on his back, as soon as I touched him, he rolled over. I placed the water beside him and he drank constantly. I was rubbing his top half, and when I touched the back of his head he jumps and rolls his head to the side and upside down. Basically scaring the death out of me. The soonest I could get into a vet was yesterday, and its a different vet as my old vet I have lost faith in after a few mishaps with bad endings. So when I called the other vet and explained what was going on, they are recommending he be put down, so I haven't taken him in yet. I am lost as what to do. Any suggestions? What would you do?

Jeremy, the first thing that comes to mind based on your description is IBD, or inclusion body disease. Is he housed near your boas? Hopefully not.

http://www.anapsid.org/ibd.html

If this is what he has, he needs to be put down.

I was afraid someone would mention that. But I just don't see how it could hit him this fast. He is in my living room, boas have there own room at the back of my house. Hands are washed between each feeding/snake being handled. Mites are not an issue. I will take your advise and play it safe.

At least get him to the vet to be checked out if in doubt. IBD symptoms spread pretty rapidly in pythons, more so than in the boas.

I hate to hear of any snake with IBD, especially a little blood. Best of luck to you, and Samson.

I also feel like I should contact the original seller and warn him.

I will. And I know this is just merely an assumption, but if true it proves anyone can be hit with this. I am very strict with my quarantine and cleaning practices, yet this can still happen. I do have one question though. He is from late 09, I have had him close to a year, why wouldn't the symptons shown up sooner if this is the case? He was in quarantine when I first got him but he has never been around any other snake, so technically he is STILL in quarantine. All other snakes in my collection have been in my collection for much longer, with a couple being over 6 months ago.

If not IBD, the symptoms also sound like a neuro disorder from a serious overheating episode or toxic poisoning from insecticides or other chemicals. It is possible that there might be a little more to the story as to what happened while you were away.

Jeremy, one question I don't think has been asked; does your brother have any snakes? Is there any possible way he may have carried any pathogen from his place to yours when he took care of your Blood?

My brother does not own any snakes. He just has always helped me take care of mine, for around 9 years now.

I just received a call and he has a fracture behind the head which is limiting his movement. The vet also mentioned to me that the no pest trip I have in my snake room isn't helping matters. Being a wooden cage I have always left a small strip inside cage out of contact with snake. Tonight ALL no-pest strips will be removed. After finding out about his fracture and talking to my brother, he claims his hide dropped on him but he looked him over and there wasn't an issue. I tell ya, this is the last time I leave for vacation! The month of January was just great!

What we are trying to decide right now is if it can heal properly. I would baisically have to feed him carnivore diet through a tube. The vet is recommending he be put down as he cannot thermoregulate properly. He can only move his head and parts of his body. He can roll but not move foreward/backward. My hear was broken today.

I am truly sorry that you have to make that decision Jeremy....

I'm not sure how I would have reacted to the admission your bro made after the fact if I were in your shoes....

I mean no offense, but my reaction would have been doubt. But, then again, I don't know what you use for a hide ;) (the little wink doesn't show up very well, it was a sad attempt at levity)

Did you, or your brother, physically restrain the snake in the recent past (meaning hold it behind the head & try to control it)? While most snakes aren't fond of being grabbed behind the head, blood pythons (and rattlesnakes) can suffer broken necks if the handler isn't careful. (I suppose, in reality, that it can happen to other snakes as well; but, because of they way they are built, and the way they twist that mass, the risk is greater with the "short" bulky ones. Sometimes, letting go is the best option.)

I'm very sorry to hear this...If you do decide to see if he recovers, I'd consider scrapping the tube feed idea for a while (unless he just doesn't have the body weight to sustain himself). Euthanization can be a tough call, especially in the face of an acute injury; but sometimes its easier, and more compassionate, than delaying it.

Well when I first talked to my brother, he didn't mention it because he didn't see a problem. He never held any of the snakes, as he had only limited time to be there, just enough to water everyone, spray them if needed and feed them. I explained the behavior to my brother and he never witnessed the same behavior. My vet had asked if the snake had been restrained in any way. Of course I didn't, but I am doubting my brothers truthfulness about it now that it has happened. He has never been a biter so it was never needed. The vet is suspecting nerve damage as well, which he believes the NO-PEST STRIP could have been a contributor.

If the fracture heals, there is a chance he will still have limited mobility. He was my buddy. He sat on the couch with me and watched tv.

I agree. But the hide he uses is a rock cave, made out of ceramic or something, its probably about 3-4lbs.
