    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.
  • Responding to email notices you receive.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

What good are they?!...

I'm talking about "head hunters" or job placement professionals, whatever...I am working a job right now that I got myself, and in fact all of my jobs have been found by myself. Well I have over eight years experience and the skills as a graphic designer and production artist in screen printing, and thought that well I'll see if so and so management could find me a better job in my field. I won't have to search and since they focus on screen printing, why not. Phtt..If they actually did anything. I'm really disliking the company I'm working at, unfortunately this time of year is slow in screen printing and hiring is few and far between. I contacted on Wednesday, by phone the "head hunter" at the placement company about any possibilities. (of course he is always out of the office..yeah :censored:) Anyway I recieve an email on Thursday saying he had a possibility and would let me know Friday. Well today is Monday and I have heard nothing. I tried to call and of course he's :censored: out of the office! You have to understand I do not call them very often, but thought to recently to remind them I was looking and to forward my updated resume. And I am always professional and courteous on the phone, email, etc.. However the way I see this is, instead of just letting me know that there are no jobs and try later, no he would rather lie to me and drag me along on a wild goose chase. Screw that!!
Sorry for the rant...I just hate being lied to, and given a slight sliver of hope that really isn't there. Has anyone else had a job hunter, waste of timer, lying sack of :censored:, get them a job?
Oh Well...Back to looking the tried and true way....
 
My only experience with "headhunters" has been when they have contacted me. I would say that when I returned their calls, they were available to take my call approximately 1/3 - 1/2 of the time. When they were not, call backs were relatively quick (never more than a few hours) and professional.

Chalk it up to my inexperience, but is it "normal" for job seekers to contact headhunters first? As I mentioned, my only experience with them has been when facilities have enlisted them to fill positions, and they have, in turn, contacted me.

I would be upset too. Jobs are big parts of our lives whether we like the ones we have or not.
My deal is, if someone says 'I'll call you on Friday' they should call you on Friday, no matter what. Even if it is to say the job did not come through like they thought.

I think there are all sorts of headhunter companies of varying quality. If there is any way to get an idea from those in the industry who might have a better agency, you might give that route one more try. I wouldn't deal with these guys though.

In certain fields you do hire the headhunter. They negotiate with various companies in your best interest and work on getting you a better overall compensation package. I used one to get into the company I work for now. They basically matched me with a company and searched for what I was looking for. It took less than a month for them to get me a signed contract with my current employer.

However, this type of headhunter is not the typical recruiter that really has no idea what your qualifications are or, in some cases, do not know what the company is actually hiring for. Those are the ones that randomly call you or email you and basically waste your time.
 
One other thing to consider if you hire someone to work for you.
The commission is typically one months salary of the position they get for you excluding bonuses so they have a vested interest to get you more than your floor salary.
My starting base salary was $6,500 more per year than I had said I would take and that did not include bonuses.
 
Thanks everyone for the comments. Do I expect this piece of :censored: to contact me at all, I'm not holding my breath. It looks like I'm going to have to be patient and wait until spring when work picks up out there.
