    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

First I want to say I dont like doing this, but I really feel like I need to get this out here.

I contacted The Shell Shop about a deal I found on Kingsnake Classifieds. The deal was buy two apricot pueblans at $25 each and get a third herp for free. The choices were normal het charcoal corns, and some sort of turtle. I wanted a male and female pueblan, and I chose the corn. Everything was working out great, every time I emailed them they got back to me very fast. Then I went to paypal them, and paypal wasn’t working. I emailed them to let them know, and everything was still good. I finally got paypal to work, but then received no confirmation of payment from neither paypal OR The Shell Shop. I emailed them to ask if they got it and got no quick reply like I had been used to. It turns out they were confused because my paypal account is under a different email address, ok that was my fault. But after that the replies became more sporadic. The guy, I think it was Lonnie Bohannon but I am not sure, says he works all day and doesnt have email access. Ok, I understand that.
So they say they are going to ship out the snakes on a certain day, then the guys wife needs emergency kidney stone surgery so they said they’d send a second corn to make up for it. I asked that if they were doing that, why not make it a male and female corn as well.
So the time comes for the shipment and I realize when I get the tracking number they are sending it USPS overnight. Now I have bad experience with USPS, they never get there on time. And it didn’t get to me the day it was supposed to. When I got the snakes the next day the box said Accepted Date 10-18-04 Scheduled Delivery Date 10-20-04. That sounds like 2nd day to me, not overnight. I actually talked to someone at USPS about it, they said the express mail is not guaranteed overnight and it usually gets there in two days. The price of shipping is also on there, it was $17, and they charged me $30. OK, I know, boxing charge, etc. But it still galled.
When I emailed them to let them know the snakes did not arrive and to express my concerns with USPS I got a one line answer, “We have never had a problem with USPS, the snakes will be fine” no sorry, no nothing. So I was pissed about that and I let them know.
So I finally get the snakes, and nothing is marked. When I send snakes I always mark male, female, if they are het, etc. And both corns are in one container. One of them is skin and bones, he weighs 3 grams! The other one has a huge lump in its abdomen. They had fed it before they shipped it! That is certainly something I never do.
So I sex them and all four snakes are males! I was very mad, after all that I get four male snakes when I wanted two males and two females. So I emailed them and they wrote back saying I have been negative the whole time. I’m sorry but when I buy snakes I expect something more than what I got. They said they only had two male corns left, and that is ok, I didn’t care about the corns that much anyways but they could have emailed me to tell me that when I asked for a pair! Then they wanted to know how I sexed them and said we’d work out a solution. I even went and got a second opinion complete with photos.
When I sent them that they wrote back and said they only have male pueblans left, and they’d refund me $10, unless I wanted to send the snake back at my cost, then I’d get the whole $25 I spent on the snake. I only ship UPS overnight and that costs me $30. I’m very frustrated. I am now doubting them a lot. I found a link about them, another person had a problem getting a snake from them, and their excuse was someone broke their sternum. Here’s the link:

I really have no use for two sickly male normal corn snakes, I was thinking I'd sell them or find homes, but they are both in bad shape, even the one with the meal in it is looking bad, neither of them will eat now. I am not going to just let them die, I need to get them eating and fattened up now before I can sell them. And I didnt really need two male pueblans. Now I have to spend more money to find a female.

And why didn’t they admit they had no female pueblans left when I first emailed them? Their customer service is seriously lacking!

Now, I have to say, they snakes are all beautiful, even the sickly looking corns have very nice color. The milksnakes are in good condition and have very nice colors.
So what I am asking is buy from them with caution!!
And I am sorry but I felt it was my duty to do this. It's very likely I just had bad luck, but their lack of communication really bothered me.

Sorry!!!

Sounds like you did the right thing by posting. Virtually every breeder I know, even ones who don't guarantee live delivery, guarantee the sex of the animals. They either deliberately completed the transaction knowing that they only had males (fraud?) or found out that they were short a female and sent you 2 males, either way very poor customer service, AT THE LEAST.

Jeez...when will people stop using USPS to ship herps? Its completely illegal first of all, and secondly only someone who cared nothing for the health and well being of the animal would ship anything but overnight.

Don't Listen to David

It isn't illegal to ship ALL herps USPS.

It is illegal to ship snakes USPS, and obviously that shouldn't have been done.

Thanks for the heads up about this business/these individuals. Some specific names (look at the shipping and the email correspondence) would be great. So would some of those emails.

Also you may want to contact the company just so they get a chance to share their side of the story. That being said, if even most of what you said is true, you got stiffed in a big way, and have every right to be upset.

USPS is a bad way to ship any herp. They do not guarantee overnight delivery. If I am interested in a critter and the person says they ship USPS I walk away so to speak. To me, it is worth the hassel and extra money to get approved through UPS (or any other overnight comapny) to ship an animal (within their "policy", I know they won't approve snakes) overnight. Cutting corners to save on shipping isn't worth the animals well being. I'd like to know why they charge the $30 (which is about what it costs me to UPS a critter) but then use USPS?

Good luck with the snakes you have!

Shell shop

I have bought from lonnie, i bought a 5 ft male burmese, i drove to tampa to get it, the snake was in fairly awesome condition, nice and fat. But there was one condition i would not let him ship it. The guy works as one of the managers of the post office on the University of South Florida campus. I know you didnt have the option to drive, but it was still wrong of him to do.

PLUS***** I have this to tell you guys****PLUS

THIS ISNT REALLY A BUSINESS. HE STATED THIS ONE OF THE EMAILS HE GAVE ME BEFORE I WENT TO PICK UP THE SNAKE****
HE RKS IN A FRIGGIN POST OFFICE, I DONT KNOW OF HIS WIFE, I DONT KNOW THE GUY PERSONALLY, JUST BOUGHT FROM HIM. ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS. DONT BUY FROM HIM, SIMPLE FACT!!!

JUST TO SAY SOMETHING HERE, I LIVE HERE IN JAX FL, I DO NOT BUY FROM OUT OF STATE. BC I DO NOT SHIP BUT I AM VERIFIED THROUGH DELTA AND WILL SHIP TO OTHERS IN THE STATES.

I AM TRULY SORRY FOR YOUR BAD EXPERIENCE SARAH. I KNOW WHERE SOME PUEBLANS ARE, MAYBE I CAN GET YOU A DEAL. YOU NEED A FEMALE, I WILL TRY TO FIND ONE. CANT BE FOR SURE. JUST DONT GET YOUR HOPES DOWN ON OTHERS. HAVE A NICE DAY

first, you say you bought a burm and it was in good condition, yet you say don't buy from him, simple fact. Is that because of the OP complaint, and the fact he ships USPS? Or did you have your own reason?

second, don't know what this has to do with anything, but you mention that he told you this isn't a business. 99.9% of breeders/sellers of reptiles on the web, have a "real" job other than the reptiles.

pueblans

Yeah, now I need a female apricot pueblan, problem is I spent the last extra cash I had on this "pair" so I have to try and sell the extra male first, what a bother! I hate the whole shipping process, I just worry and worry until the snake arrives.

Yeah the pueblans look good, the corns are still suffering. They are now both wasting away. I know it's only been a week today since I got them but I cannot believe how much weight they have both lost just in seven days, and neither one will eat a thing.

I personally dont care if this is a business or a side hobby they still werent very nice to be about the whole thing.

Sarah.... take a small amount of canned dog food and mix it with a little Pedialite.... mix it into a muddy slop.... get an eye dropper, fill it with a "pinky-size" portion, and GENTLY squirt it down their throats.... this will at least give them some nutrition to help them themselves....

Neil

thanks.............

I actually got adult mouse tails down them today. This is my tried and true method of keeping nutrition in them. I hate to loose them, they are pretty.

Sarah A Kramer

Sarah.... Adult mouse tails are OK, for what they are, but the snakes get MUCH better nutrition with what I suggested.... when they're that frail, they need all the vitamins and minerals (and calcium) they can get to give them the inner strength to get THEMSELVES better.... I would strongly suggest you give my method a try.... it's worked wonders for the couple of frail baby snakes I've had in the past.... good luck with them....

Neil

dogfood

My method has worked really well for me in the past, I appreciate your idea though.
However I wouldnt even feed most canned dog food to a dog, most of the stuff out there is CRAP.
We do have some high qualtiy prescription diet at work, (I work in a vet clinic) I may try that.

Thanks

my reply

ok, i bought from him, i did. i dont ship usps or ups for my own reasons, there are way to many theives that go by my house and if i am not there, i dont wanna talk the risk of the snake dying in the sun or whatnot. i prefer to meet the person in person. thats why i only buy from ppl here in fl.
plus i am not here to be criticized for what i say. i am just stating he isnt a real business, that is what he said.

ppl dont have to be anal about what i say. i know what the situation is, the snake was cheap and i took the deal, the snake was in very good shape, but if it was anyone i would never buy from him again bc of all the things i heard about him afterwards, esp. now when i find out i could've had a malnurished snake, and like i said i am sorry.

You still have no excuse.
You completely contradicted yourself.
Saying you bought a perfectly healthy, good looking animal, then said not to buy from them at all.
I have been talking with Jordan, of Shell Shop Exotics for awhile, and he has always come through for me.
Never has he pushed a sale, or anything.
If he'd switch to UPS, I'd say he is perfect to buy from.

Further more,
like aleady stated, most people in the business arent 100% breeders only.
I know quite a lot of reputable dealers, who many people will stand behind who have a larger source of income, away from Reptiles.
Matt Greybeal is a hobbyist, who Im sure has a "real" job, and you couldnt find a better person!

If I were using dog food, I'd go with Science Diet A/D. It's been recommended by my vet and several books. I've also used baby food with added vitamins. But hopefully the mouse tails will work.

Erin Benner

But hopefully the mouse tails will work.

See, this is something I have never understood... it's going a bit off topic here but it was brought up so...

The tail of a rodent is garbage nutritionally, it's all bone, tendon and skin with very little actual meat to it. Stubborn feeders and underweight animals who need to have the digestive system kick started aren't getting much out of mouse tails... Seriously, who in their right mind would take an animal which is having feeding problems and give it food that's nearly worthless? It'd be like sending a load of celery (negative calories) to starving nations. Just counterproductive.

Yes, sometimes an animal need to get something in it that's small and easily digestable before they get full meals. This is especially true of particularly small animals or those which have been regurging but there are plenty of rodent parts which would do the job BETTER than tails.

As to Jordan... This isn't his first bad deal. I like the man as a person but his business practices have been called into question a few times too many for me to feel comfortable recomending him to anyone as a surefire no-problem quality dealer. I'd consider him something of a friend... until there's a better term for someone who I interact with online and have an affable relationship with but I disagree with the way he's handled (failed to handle) a couple problems which have been made public. If he had registered and explained his side of that last fiasco, it may have ended differently. If he were more communicative with his buyers he might not have these few blemishes on his record. He's had probably hundreds of good deals in the time frame between these two bad ones which were brought up, so he's not guaranteed to result in a negative deal, but leaving two unsatisfied customers with legitimate complaints isn't exactly the earmark of someone who's an exceptional dealer.

When you post that you bought an almost awesome snake from somebody, but then say don't buy from him, without elaborating why, and some of us call you on it, that doesn't make us anal. give me a break. You can't just come on this board and say don't buy from somebody for no reason. even now you are just saying "because all of the things I have heard" without saying what those things are. From your statements we might think it's because you think it's a big deal that this is not his real business.

I don't know you or the guy this post is about, and I would not buy from him myself. BECAUSE HE SHIPS USPS, See I put the REASON why I would not buy from him. However if I was near him and could pick his animal up in person, I haven't really seen enough here that I wouldn't go give a look.
hows that for anal.

They had to pay medical bills for a broken sternum and kidney stones. Geesh, give them a break.....;-)
