    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

I think it would be cool to have members posts their photos here..who knows, maybe a "love connection" could take place? or maybe not...:hehe:
At least Fauna members would have a better idea of who was posting!!:scatter: put a face with the name!!
What do ya think??

Shelly,
I saw your photo!! heehee! That was cheating because you had a snake over your face!! Cool pic though..
I knew that thread was there..I was really hoping that someone could get something going where people would actually post photos...I mean a lot of folks..
Do you really think it is because people are afraid of being stalked? Like internet stalked?? I mean I can maybe understand the girls feeling that way, But what about the guys?? I mean most of the photos in that section were posted by women.
It's sad to think that would actually stop people..I suppose we could always send WebSlave after them if people were stalking on here..
Personally I think it is very cool to see the faces behind the names..gives a much more personal, family orientated feeling here of Fauna..

Some folks are just shy, some people don't WANT anyone on the net to know what they look like. Some of us like to have our pics out there.

I have read posts from and spoken to many people who refuse to post pics for various reasons. The one that bothers me the most is when they say it's because they are ugly. Some of the gecko people posted pics. I think it's cool, myself. There are pics of me on more than one forum, usually with my critters. If you go to the photo gallery you might find other pics of me as well. Not sure.

Anyhow, speaking only from my own experience, some people absolutely freak out about the idea of ones picture being put on the internet. My mother was shocked and horrified that I admitted to emailing/posting pictures. Something about how if you put your pic out there it is an invitation for some psycho to come kill you or worse. She screamed at me to remove the pics at once.

(Please all you psychos out there do not come to kill me or worse or my mom will be really mad at me...)

I would like to take this opportunity to ask, for those of you that have expertise, for a short step by step tutorial be posted here in HOW to post pix. For instance, those who have digital pix stored as attachments to emails, how to navigate the steps to getting those pix posted?

Okay, I hope this works and makes sense. There are two ways to post pictures, the easiest (imo) being using the "Manage Attachments" function available on the "Reply to Thread" screen. (Note: That is NOT how I am attaching these photos.)

FIRST: If you have the picture saved as an attachment to an email, such as this, click on it and open the picture.

SECOND: When the picture opens, right-click on it. A shortcut menu will pop up, and you will want to select 'save'.

THIRD: The "Save Picture" menu will appear. Select 'desktop' from the icons on the left, and give the picture a name. In this example, I named the picture "Randy" after the dragon :) Click 'save'.

FOURTH: An icon should appear on your desktop, like the one shown below. If the picture needs to be down-sized, you would have to do it now. The only way I know how to do that is through Macromedia Fireworks, but I'm sure there are other ways. (That's a whole different tutorial though, one I'm not really qualified in explaining.)

FIFTH: To attach the picture to a post, start with the "Reply to Thread" screen. Click the Manage Attachments button in the Additional Options box. A new window will pop up and you will want to click on one of the "browse" buttons. A "Choose File" menu will appear. Select desktop from the icons on the left. You should see your image (in this case "Randy") in the window. Select that file and click "open".

That menu will disappear and you'll see your image in one of the boxes on the "Manage Attachments" screen. Click "Upload." When that window disappears, you should see your image listed in the "Additional Options" box on your reply screen. Do whatever else you need to with the reply, and when you submit, the picture will show up at the bottom of your post.

I hope that works for you.
Paul
